Right on the edge of downtown Blanco, Texas, this small state park sits along the banks of the Blanco River, accessible by crossing a one-lane bridge that leads directly into the campground loop. The park occupies a compact footprint within the city limits, which means grocery stores, restaurants, and the historic courthouse square are within walking distance. Campers who cross the river from their sites can reach the downtown square without touching the highway at all, following a back entrance into the small park there.
Sites are level, shaded, and fitted with covered picnic tables, a practical feature during Texas summers. Hookup sites include water and electric, with sewer available at select sites. The layout is tight. Campers consistently note there is little privacy between spots, and the campground draws a mix of RVs and tent campers. Some road noise from US Highway 281 carries into the sites. One shower and toilet facility serves all 29 campsites plus day-use visitors, which can create pressure on facilities during busy weekends.
The Blanco River is the main draw. Swimming, kayaking, and fishing are all accessible from the park, and a dammed section creates calmer water well-suited to tubing and paddling. Hiking is limited. "No real hiking to speak of," notes John H., though the river access compensates for most campers. Two easy trails do exist, and at least one is stroller-accessible according to visitors with young children.
Reservations are available and recommended, particularly for weekends. The park is open year-round, and rates run $20 to $30 per night, with discounts available through the Texas State Parks Pass. Pets are permitted. Those looking for more space or a quieter setting can find campgrounds near Blanco State Park, including Blanco Settlement Cabins and RV Park and River Oaks Riverfront RV Ranch along the river corridor east of town.
