Close to the river

We stayed here one night in May 2024. Drove in and it was dry - then a snowstorm came through. It was so beautiful! We were right by the river. It was a bumpy road back in and a little eerie the farther back you went. I wouldn't have stayed here by myself unless I stayed in the big gravel parking lot as you drive in. No pit toilets. We saw tents, RV's, and I have a van. Right down the road from Toppings BLM area.

Beautiful spot

Designated dispersed camping - spots had bear boxes. Potentially crowded, I had a big space to myself. Beautiful views, quiet - river nearby

RV Friendly

The road in was easy to drive in our RV. This is just a gravel pit you park in. Lots of room for lots of vehicles.

Beautiful easily accessible spots for all sorts of travelers

Spent a few nights here with my family tent camping. Saw more tents, some rvs, campers etc all able to get to sites. Some Mountain View’s some creek views and access. Beautifully nestled in the woods yet close enough to amenities. The ranger or host at site 5 was helpful and aware of wildlife presence and kept us feeling safe. Can’t wait to come back.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Spread Creek Campground and Spread Creek Dispersed Camping?

Spread Creek Dispersed Site is a designated dispersed camping area, not a developed campground. Unlike traditional campgrounds with numbered sites and amenities, Spread Creek offers a more primitive camping experience in a natural setting. The area features some designated spots with bear boxes but maintains the flexibility of dispersed camping. You'll find a mix of areas including a large gravel parking area and more secluded spots along the creek and in wooded areas. This gives campers the freedom of dispersed camping with some minimal infrastructure for safety in bear country.

Where is Spread Creek Dispersed Camping located in Wyoming?

Spread Creek Dispersed Camping is located in the Bridger-Teton National Forest in northwestern Wyoming. It's positioned near Grand Teton National Park, making it a popular alternative for those seeking camping options outside the national park boundaries. The location offers beautiful mountain views and creek access while being close enough to amenities. This strategic placement provides a more rugged camping experience while still being accessible to the attractions of Grand Teton.

How do I get to Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area?

To reach Spread Creek Dispersed Camping, take Spread Creek Road, which is accessible for most vehicles. The initial entrance leads to a large gravel area suitable for parking RVs and other vehicles. If you continue further down the road, you'll find more secluded camping spots, though the road becomes progressively bumpier and may be challenging for larger vehicles. Most RVs can access the main area without difficulty. During winter months, be prepared for possible snowfall that can affect road conditions. The area is generally well-marked and relatively easy to find.

How do I find a good camping spot at Spread Creek Dispersed Camping?

Spread Creek offers diverse camping options. For easy access, the large gravel area near the entrance accommodates multiple vehicles and RVs. For more seclusion, continue along the road to find spots nestled in the woods or near the creek. Some areas offer mountain views while others provide creek access. Sites with bear boxes are available throughout the area. A ranger or host is sometimes stationed around site 5 and can provide guidance. The farther back you go, the more private and secluded the spots become, though the road gets bumpier.

What are the rules and regulations for Spread Creek Dispersed Camping?

Spread Creek Dispersed Camping follows standard Bridger-Teton National Forest dispersed camping regulations. Bears are present in the area, so proper food storage is required - some sites have bear boxes provided. Pack out all trash and follow Leave No Trace principles. Fires should be kept small and fully extinguished. The maximum stay is typically 14 days within a 30-day period. Be aware of wildlife presence and keep a clean camp. For complete and current regulations, check with the Bridger-Teton National Forest office before your visit.
