Incredible views

We stayed in a lot that had 2 marked spots but on Labor Day weekend that turned to 4. There was plenty of space for everyone and we shared the bear boxes. We could see the peak of the grand Teton through the trees from our spot. Quick drive into Moose to enter the park.

Just after the steep, curved part of the road in, there is a lot with many spots where you have the best view of the Tetons. This was full when we arrived on Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend so we found our spot further up the road (21A), and this lot was completely empty when we arrived. We had an awesome weekend staying here!!!

Busy

In mid-September, there were plenty of rigs and occasionally this area was full, but there was also lots of turnover so new campers were able to get in every day. We saw the full gamut of campers, from small tents to large class A’s and fifth wheels. The approach road is very bumpy, but it’s not very long. If two rigs are going opposite directions, someone may have to back up a ways to find a rim to squeeze past each other.

Beautiful, remote location, but crowed. I parked near about 5 other vehicles, but my Kia SOUL made it out there like a trooper. And I woke up to a view of Grand Teton.

Very Busy, but great sites

This spot in the National Forest was great for the nights we were visiting Grand Tetons National Park. If you have a pickup truck with a RTT or are car camping you can find a spot here almost any time of the night. It is busy but there are plenty of sites and plenty of signs that say one more than one person can share a site. The spots up the road from the bathrooms are great but fill up quickly and it seems like people park RVs or leave tents to reserve spots while they are out for the day. I don’t know if I love that but hopefully the National forest rangers are making sure people don’t overstay their 5 day limits. Overall I recommend this for people visiting the NP

Spectacular views

There is a n area about 1/2 mile in that is good for a night but keep going up the gravel road to the top and there is a great area with about 12-14 spots for camping. It does fill up so get there early, we arrived about 12pm and had our pick of spots. Road up is a little rough but made it fine towing our 38ft 5th wheel. Views are amazing and probably none better in the Tetons when camping for free. Mosquitoes were bad but bearable. Stayed 5 days and would definitely be back

Great Views!

We drove in around 2pm on Sunday June 22, and tent camped. We picked spot 6, although all were open when we drove in. But we settled on that spot. We appreciated the bear boxes and fire rings. And toilets down below. It was an amazing view to wake up to! It’s literally right outside the National Park!! We brought my dog and he also enjoyed the campsite. He couldn’t go on most trails in the NP but my boyfriend couldn’t hike due to an injury. So my pup joined us.

Too perfect

Honestly, I didn't want to leave a review because I don't want more people finding out about this place. There is a small parking area at the base of the hill, then a rough gravel road leads up to the top. It gets pretty crowded with people, but that is because the views are so insane. Totally worth the drive up. If you have a larger rig, I suggest arriving around early to mid-day to make sure you get a spot. Smaller vans, truck campers, and tent campers will almost always find a spot somewhere.

As I lay here writing this review. I never want to leave this view! This really is the most amazing view. We got here about 2:30pm on a Friday. May 30 2025. It had some people in the best spots but we were able to get a spot with a view. with a firepit and set up camp, then we went exploring around the park which is minutes up the road to the right. I honestly never want to leave here. Gorgeous. Plus we have signal. Which is really comforting.

Most of this area is not open in every May, and the part of it that is open is packed with people. Wouldn't recommend in spring.

Popular and convenient

This area seems to be very popular. It is very close to the Grand Tetons. There is spotty Verizon signal. Because it is very popular I would suggest larger rigs to arrive earlier in the day in order to get a spot. There seems to be an abundance of camping areas. I stayed here for three nights and was unable to camp at the same location each night. Great views and people around me were polite and quiet.

This was a nice peaceful stay. Only about 15 minutes from the park entrance at Grand Teton and maybe about 45 minutes from Yellowstone NP. The place has a fire ring and also a bear food bin for food storage. And even a bathroom at the entrance of the camp site!

Great view

Great view of the Tetons and plenty of space. Close to Park entrance. We pitched a tent in an open area with plenty of spots available. The wind picked up unexpectedly...if you're tent camping, be sure to stake it well! Bugs weren't much of an issue, but we were at a spot out in the open with continual breeze.

Beautiful view and lots of bugs

The first night the wind was blowing a little bit and the mosquitos weren’t too bad. I thought the reviews were being a bit dramatic. Our second night the weather was still and the bugs were INSANE. We covered up and had bug spray but we (including the dogs) got eaten up. Besides that, this is a beautiful place. A little busy, as it was a weekend in July, but we had no problem finding spots. There are 27 sites, some with A and B locations. 4-6 is on the right side of the Y, 7-27 on the left. We drove around looking at all of the spots and Site 27 was unreal. Great location outside of the Tetons. Easy to get to. Roads weren’t bad at all. Ranger was driving around checking on everything.

Good campground

This was my first dispersed camping trip so I didn't know what to expect. There were ALLOT of.open spots, you have to search for one that fits your needs like if the view is more important or shade. The only downside was the dust it is very dusty, in fact so much so that I couldn't have my windows open. However I had one of the most used sites so it had less vegetation to block dust. Like I said be sure to pick based.on your needs and expectations, had I known more about his huge site I would have picked better. This site is free with just a donation box. It have vault toilets which are surprising clean and not as smelly as most places I have been. All in all O would recommend this site

Amazing!

Plenty of camping sites with easy access from #26. I stayed in site 21 (43.7658752, -110.5415921) just passed the bigger lot where most of the campers were at. The site backed up against the forest to the East and a little spring on the North side. Was able to see the top of the mountain range to the West that made the sunsets perfect. Stayed Wednesday & Thursday, during the day it stayed pretty quiet, the evenings got busy with others trying to find a free spot and was able to hear everyone camping up the road on 30311A. Mosquitos were not as bad as expected, flies and bees were more of a bother.

Can’t beat these views

Arrived around noon two days before fourth of July and there were plenty of spots, but quickly filled throughout the day. Spot 19 has amazing views of the tetons and is pretty secluded from the road. Being so close to the park was such a plus and the gravel road was not hard to navigate at all. Two downsides for us were the amount of mosquitos and the low temps at night (29 degrees in July) so bring your bug spray and the correct gear to stay warm!

Awesome view

We spent one night mid May here on the way to Yellowstone. The view was awesome. With that said the upper road to the main camping area was closed off by the forest service at the lower parking area / pit toilet. The view made it worth the trip up. Not sure when the road will open up to the main dispersed site. Be aware that there is only enough room for about 20 campers / vans in the lower area. There is room for about another 15 cars and tent camping. Arrive early! Plenty of hiking and well worth it if you get a spot!

Frequently Asked Questions

What views and attractions can I see from Upper Teton View campground?

Upper Teton View offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Grand Teton mountain range and surrounding valley. The vistas are particularly spectacular from the upper sites, with virtually every campsite offering impressive mountain views. The elevated position provides an unobstructed perspective of the Tetons, especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset. The campground's location also makes it a convenient base for exploring both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

Where is Upper Teton View dispersed camping located and how do I get there?

Upper Teton View Dispersed is located near Grand Teton National Park. To reach it, turn onto Forest Road 30310, which is almost directly across from the Cunningham Cabin historic site. After passing the first campground landing, continue up the gravel road. When the road forks, take the left route. The gravel road extends about 5 miles with various dispersed camping areas. The road can be bumpy and steep in sections, so vehicles with higher clearance are recommended. There's a small wooden post sign and a large gate with camping advisements marking the entrance.

Do I need reservations for Upper Teton View camping area?

No reservations are needed at Upper Teton View as it operates on a first-come, first-served basis. However, this is an extremely popular camping area, especially during peak season, so arriving early in the day is highly recommended. Sites typically fill up by mid-afternoon, with some visitors reporting all spots taken by 3-4 PM. If planning to stay here, have backup camping options in mind in case all sites are occupied upon arrival.

What are the rules and regulations for dispersed camping at Upper Teton View?

At Upper Teton View, camping is permitted at established sites only, which are marked by existing fire rings. There's a sign indicating RVs over 30 feet should use alternative sites, though larger rigs do make it up with careful driving. Proper food storage is mandatory due to bear activity in the area - one bear box is available on the upper loop. Pack out all trash as this is a leave-no-trace area. The campground may have seasonal closures or restrictions, particularly during winter months when the area sees snowmobile use. Always follow posted guidelines regarding campfires, especially during dry conditions.

Is Upper Teton View free camping and are there any fees?

Yes, Upper Teton View offers free dispersed camping with no fees required. This makes it an excellent budget-friendly alternative to the paid campgrounds within Grand Teton National Park. However, this free status means there are minimal facilities - there's one bathroom (which may be locked early in the season) and a single bear box on the upper loop. Be prepared for self-sufficient camping by bringing your own water, packing out waste, and planning for limited amenities despite the premium views.
