The road is manageable in dry conditions, but campers who have driven it after rain describe something closer to a mud chute. As Mati C. put it, "I hydroplaned the whole 15-20ish minutes down." Site 10 sits near the ridge alongside site 10A, which shares the same general area. Site 9, a short distance down the road, has near-360-degree views and tends to be slightly more private. Several other sites along the route are tucked into the trees with less exposure. Each numbered site is large, with flat ground suitable for tents and a fire ring. The views from the upper sites face directly toward the Tetons, and Tom J. calls it "best camping view ever." Nights can be cold at any point in the season, with temperatures dropping into the teens in early summer.
Crowds are a consistent factor. Sites fill by early afternoon on weekdays and well before noon on weekends. Arriving by noon gives the best odds of landing an upper site with ridge views. Noise from neighboring campers, including groups that set up outside designated spots, is a recurring mention across reviews. This is also bear country, and reviewers note that not everyone follows proper food storage practices, so bringing bear-safe containers is worth the effort.
Bugs are a real consideration from late spring through midsummer. Mosquitoes and flies have driven some campers into their tents for hours at a time, and multiple reviews specifically flag bug spray as essential gear. Camping here is free, pets are welcome, and campfires are permitted. The area sits within Teton National Forest and provides direct access to Grand Teton National Park, including routes down to Mormon Row. Campers wanting a designated site rather than dispersed camping can look at Shadow Mountain Designated Campsites 10-11 just north, or Shadow Mountain/Ditch Creek Area to the southwest for a different setup in the same general zone.

Dispersed camping is the term used for camping anywhere in the National Forest OUTSIDE of a designated campground. Dispersed camping means no services; such as trash removal, and little or no facilities; such as tables and fire pits, are provided. Some popular dispersed camping areas may have toilets.There are extra responsibilities and skills that are necessary for dispersed camping. It is your responsibility to know the camping rules and regulations to make your experience safe, and to keep the natural resources scenic and unspoiled for other campers. Due to over use and high impacts, certain areas in the Jackson Hole Valley have had designated sites numbered for use. This is to help lessen the amount of impact on the resource.
