Booked a last minute permit for the Pohono trail on a recent trip and had Dewey Point as one of my camp sites! Beautiful views of el cap and the valley made for an iconic back country spot !
We found this one through the Dyrt app and was glad we did. We had rented a Toyota 4x4 through Turo and it worked out perfectly for this trail. Definitely recommend 4x4 with some clearance but it’s not overly difficult to navigate or crawl through. Plenty of camp sites along the rim of the canyon. And plenty of privacy if you space apart.
We rolled in late one night and didn’t have any other options to go exploring especially not being from the area. I knew of this area from the last time I visited. We would see people camping out in random spots from the highway and we tried it to and it worked out great. Woke up to hot air balloons in the air around us.
We had this campground all too our selves in late May as it was still rather cold out in the area but it was a great spot for tent camping. Lots of trails near by to explore.
