Pole Mountain Area- Dispersed Campsite, Medicine Bow NF

OHV riders and mountain bikers have good reason to explore the Pole Mountain area, where side roads branch off the main dirt track and large, well-spaced sites begin roughly two miles in. It's free, dispersed camping within Medicine Bow National Forest, with toilets on-site and cell service available. No water is on-site, but a potable spigot sits about 15 minutes away at a nearby rest stop. Curt Gowdy State Park is a short drive for additional mountain biking. Campers wanting a developed alternative can check Yellow Pine Campground, about half a mile southwest.

A little out of the way, but that's what we like!

Love this free location by Eagle Rock in Pole Mountain dispersed camping. A little cooler, more isolated and quiet, decent breezes without being fully exposed, and a massive camping area! The temp was around 91 here when we arrived at the hottest part of the day, but it was close to 99 at the other, more populated dispersed camping in the area. There are some large trees for shade and a really flat spot for our 17' trailer. We have a small and light rig, so we were not worried about the washboard roads, nothing we couldn't handle.

Sitenot sure it is marked?

Beautiful secluded camping

We've camped along the Veadwoo road in the past, but this time decided to try the Pol Mountain area, and I'm glad we did! Tons of site around with plenty of side roads to explore. We started out with no neighbors nearby, but eventually we saw another camp nearby. Still a very peaceful experience. Some decent mountain biking from camp as well, and Curt Gowdy is just a short drive away with amazing mountain biking.

Loved it here!

Stayed for 3 nights and each night was very peaceful. Once you’re about 2 miles down the dirt road, that’s when a lot of the sites begin. All sites were very large and loved that they were very well spaced so you weren’t close to neighbors. Definitely a fun area if you have toys for OHV. lots of cows roaming around and chipmunks. Didn’t see much wildlife. Completely dry camping so pack it in and pack it out. There are plenty of trash cans and a potable water spigot at the rest stop 15 min away so no reason to leave trash behind! Amazing stars and sunsets!
