    Halloween starts early here!

This weekend there was a screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas (one of our favorites) and loads of cool decked out campsites. Only a few places with full hook up and ALL by the dump station. Nice amenities, lake, splash pads, mini golf, splash pad outdoor pool, golf car rentals, outdoor movies, a full size haunted house!

    Great campground

This is a small campground. It offers Rv pull through sites with electric and water. Along with a variety of other type of sites. There are many seasonal campsites. It is very clean and well run. The owner - Reid was great. It has a small pond to swim in and is also located on big lake. They have boat rentals. I only gave it 4 stars because we prefer full hookup but they did offer pump out service for a small fee. Great location with lots of things to do in the area.

Nice views fishing not so great

This campground is right on the Ice Age Trail and a nice place to stop off during an extended hike.

There are not that many sites available here and most do supply electricity. More people tent camp here rather than RV camping. There are pit toilets but no shower house although there are water spigots for drinking water. The sites are closer together than some campgrounds but it's not like a city block of camps like some KOA's I have camped at. The night time temperatures dipped in the low 30's in the middle of May when I was there. The campground attendants were on site twice a day to sell firewood and collect camping fees. The DNR rangers do patrol the campgrounds on a regular basis. There is places all along the river to fish and I was told the fishing is good, however I did not have very much luck when I was there. The campground firepits with cooking grates were OK and the wooden picnic tables are worn, but there is level ground for pitching tents.

The scenery and hiking along the river and on the Ice Age Trail is great. If you had better luck fishing than I did this would have been a great camping weekend. Bring warm cloths and a great sleeping bag.

Embarrass River Campground and ATV Park

    Rustic campsites

Its been awhile since we've been here, so we will be making a trip in the future. The place is great! Big secluded sites. Plenty of shade. My favorite sites are on the river as its relaxing and comforting listening to the fast moving stream especially at night. You can bring your ATV to ride on the ATV track there or on the trails in the woods. We seen deer while riding through the trails. If you dont have an ATV you can always just kick back and relax or go to the track and watch a race of they're hosting an event that weekend. Its just an overall great rustic campsite. They recently updated the sites to have electric. They do have RV sites with full hookups. Showers and flushable toilets up at the entrance. Brochures and local information available as well. You can fish but all ive caught was some chubs. I heard you can get trout. You wont be disappointed! Its run by the small city/town/village of Tigerton. support the small local communities. There is a small restaurant/gas station down the road or go into town and there's a grocery store and a local tavern.

    North Wood County Park

    Very quiet, clean, enjoyable experience.

When we first pulled up to the camp grounds, we could tell it would be a spot we would stay again. In October, it's not so populated to where the closeness of the sites would be bothersome. There's on site laundry and showers. Electrical hook up. And being out of season, was a little cheaper. Will set up camp here again.

    secluded canoe-in/walk-in site

Such a wonderful experience! After a bit of uncertainty about how to access the sites (they were listed some places as "canoe in") we were pleasantly surprised to see the sites were just a walk over a bridge :)  All 3 canoe sites are on a small island. (We were lucky enough to be the only people camping at any of the sites!)

All of the canoe sites are great!  We stayed in site #1 which was closest to the bridge (and bathroom just over the bridge ;) )- nice level site and large. Site #2 was a bit smaller but more secluded. Site #3 was large but wasn't as level (though there was WAY more water access- 3 sides of water views!)   Walk to the sites was not bad at all.

I would highly recommend these 3 campsites!  We saw the rest of the campground and it looked pretty standard, but these sites are a gem.  Showers are at the main campground, but there is a pit toilet and water access  just across the bridge near the parking area.

The park/area is really nice too!  The park has a beach, small playground area, a bike trail, and some hiking areas.  Nice lake to canoe or kayak on as well. Plus the nature center has programs too!  The stream had turtles, crayfish, and frogs to check out as well :)

*check out the Green Circle trail and the Stevens Point Sculpture Garden if you wanna get out of the park :)

    Beautiful

We camped in the family campground with our 17 foot Casita travel trailer. Large private site surrounded by trees, with several options for positioning the trailer. The nearby chain of small lakes connected by narrows is ideal for kayaking. Lots of level paved roads for cycling, and wooded trails for hiking. Clean restrooms with showers.

Water quality issue Large group site

I have camped with a club in the group site for years. Electric sites. No water. You now pay to dump your waste. Price is right for a county site. BUT the water quality suffers from green algae almost the entire season. Fishing can be good. No longer good for nocturnal carp due to water. Group site is still a good deal. They’ve added electric for at least 8-10 campers. Big site. Your own covered picnic area. There are concrete outhouses which we have used as bunkers during inclement weather.

    Beautiful site

We had site 18 which is right on the water and across from the shower house. It was decently spaced out from the other sites. The shore was pretty level and easy to get our kayaks in and out. The shore is shallow and mostly sand. Nice for swimming. We did catch one bass off the shore. The firepit grate was most of the bars so that made grilling a little harder. Be aware the sites to the east are higher elevation and looked like it was steep to get down to the water. Shower house was nice and clean. The first night we did hear a bunch of teens yelling at the shower house around midnight, but they either got kicked out or left because we didnt hear them again. The waterfront sites are on the main road, so you do hear all the RVs coming and going. Definitely will go back!

    Big Eau Pleine Park Campground

This park offers 12 miles of trails, scenic beauty, wooded sites and more!

This gorgeous county park in Marathon County, Wisconsin is 1,450 acres of mixed hardwoods forming a two-mile peninsula jutting out deep into the waters of the Big Eau Pleine Flowage.

Eau Pleine is from the French phrase meaning full water or stock river. There are two separate campgrounds–( the West Unit and the South Unit) with a total of 106 sites– about 60 with electric. The daily fee ranges from$18.00 for a non-electric, with no lake view to$23.00 for lake view with electric.

You can hike, bike, or ride your horse on the 12 miles of scenic, wooded trails. The park also offers several fishing points near the entrance and along the three boat landings. There is also a beach, two shelters and scattered picnic areas. And you can enjoy a fun game of disc golf on the scenic wooded course.

We found this park to be absolutely beautiful and definitely give it a double Hell Yeah!!

    Great Site

I lived near here growing up. We would bike there, and around the whole thing, and back home. It has a nice beach, and boat launch area. Campers and Tents can camp there. There are all the hookups you need. My Aunt and Uncle had a nice camper they would stay there a week, and we'd come visit and sit by the fire. You can kayak down the river past the dam to and avoid the other boating area. That's where all the motor boats go. Great family area.

    Huge campground

First off this campground isn't called Kastle campground anymore, it's now called Farmer Genes Campground. And its HUGE over 500 sites. We went here for 4th of july weekend. Check in was quick and smooth. It was overall an ok campground. I'm not sure I'd go back. Very busy with golf carts. They had a nice pool and splash pad for younger kids. They had plenty to for the kids, playground, mini golf, basketball etc. They have a beach as well. You can "rent" kayaks, canoes or other water toys. They told me it was $10 and when you bring back the oar and or life jacket you get the $10 back. Store with anything and everything you would need. Even sell ice cream! Nice for those hot days. They had fireworks and a live band Saturday night. Fireworks werent going very high and a few had the embers come into the crowd sending the spectators running. Seasonals weren't very friendly. We were walking down to the water to get a seat for the fireworks, we stopped on the side of the road to talk about potential areas to sit and the seasonal behind us said "sure you can sit there if my pay seasonal fee for the year" very rude! We had no intention of sitting in front of them. The sites were stacked on top of each other, nothing in between for any type of privacy. Upside was the amish came in selling their baked goods and eggs. The showers are pay showers- a quarter for 3 minutes. First time i seen that. In the picture i was standing in the next site to take the picture. Thabkfully noone was there or it would've been cramped for sure.

Camping in the woods along the Wisconsin River

On the Wisconsin River, there are four “loops” of campsites, with some on the river side of the road and some off the river. The main RV loop looked crowded, but it is also where the very clean bathhouse is located. There are restrooms on the other three loops, but they are not as updated as the main bathrooms and bathhouse in the RV loop. Most of the tents were put on the sites around the ballfield which is across the street from the river. The good thing about that is that the dust from the ballfield seemed to keep the deer flies at bay, which was not the case on the riverside sites. It’s a good thing the road is not too busy as you have to walk along the side of the road to get to the shower house from the other camp loops. There is a nice dock that is a good spot to watch the sun set over the river if you can stand the bugs.
