Old Orchard Campground — Beech Fork State Park

Sites at Old Orchard Campground sit on open terrain along Beech Fork Lake, with some spots positioned directly at the water's edge. The access road has drawn complaints from multiple visitors, so drivers with low-clearance vehicles should plan accordingly. Managed jointly by the WV Division of Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers, the campground provides full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, along with showers, a dump station, and WiFi, though Jerry S. warns the signal is "horrible, no Verizon service."

Sites run close together. Reviewers consistently note the density, with campers packed in tightly enough that privacy between neighbors is limited. The campground does enforce a one-household-per-site rule, and only one tent or RV is permitted per site without prior permission. That said, bathrooms are cleaned daily, and the park side of Beech Fork hosts a pool and evening activities for kids. The marina occupies a separate section of the same lake, and the two areas require a drive between them.

Reservations are available and pets are allowed. The campground also gives access to the lake by boat, making it a reasonable base for anglers and paddlers exploring camping spots near Lavalette and the surrounding Wayne County area. Campers who prefer more separation between sites may want to look at Moxley Branch Campground or Four Coves Campground, both located within Beech Fork State Park.
