Lake View Campground — Beech Fork State Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Beech Fork State Park, co-managed by the WV Division of Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers, holds Lake View Campground along the shore of Beech Fork Lake in the hill country of western West Virginia. Getting there takes some effort. The access road runs through curvy mountain back roads, and the route warrants caution, especially for larger rigs. Sites are electric-hookup only, with picnic tables and fire pits, and the bathhouse is on-site, though reviewers note it could use some upkeep.

Water proximity is the defining feature here. Many sites sit directly on the lake, which makes the campground well-suited to paddlers and anglers, and those with a boat can reach a beach several miles from the main area that is otherwise inaccessible by land. Cell coverage is essentially nonexistent for most carriers at this location, Verizon included, so plan accordingly. The campground draws crowds even mid-week, but sites are spaced roughly 50 to 75 feet apart, which gives each camp some breathing room despite the volume of visitors.

Beyond the water, the park includes hiking and biking trails, a swimming pool, a disc golf course, a shooting range, and a playground. WiFi is available, though one reviewer notes it is limited to the Old Orchard Campground section of the park. "Spacious, beautiful views of the water," notes Todd S. about the lakeside electric sites. Reservations are available and worth booking ahead given how quickly the campground fills. Campers who want a different configuration within the same park can also look at Moxley Branch Campground or Four Coves Campground as alternatives nearby.

Love camping at Beech Fork

We have stayed here in our tent at least 7 times in the last 10 years. It’s close to home but still a fun camping experience!

Beautiful and secluded

We visited in the end of October 2021. The colors and the views were spectacular. The drive into the park was very curvy mountain back roads. The site included a fire pit with grill and a picnic table. There was a fair amount of space between sites. Approximately 50-75 feet apart. The bath house was nice but could use a little refreshening. There are many activities including a shooting range, frisbee golf course, swimming pool, playground just to name a few. With Verizon as our service provider no cell signal was available at the park. Overall, we give 3 stars. Minus one star for no cell service and minus another star due to maintenance. Overall, very nice park.

Busy place but lots to do

This was just an overnight stay for us as we passed through the area, but we will hopefully be back to check it out closer.  Lots to do for the whole family!  We stopped in on a Tuesday and I was shocked at how busy it was, but the sites are large enough that you have plenty of space for yourself.  Facilities were decent.

Lakefront, gorgeous park

We stayed at Beech Fork in our overlander tent, right on the lake. The sunrises were absolutely spectacular, tons of blue heron and ducks every morning floating on the water. We canoed through the lake and found an amazing site with a beach several miles from the campground only accessible by boat (oddly enough this was the only place we had cell service besides town). Didn’t catch any fish but the trip was incredible!

Great campsites

Great camp sites and nice if you have a boat with you as most sites are on the water which is great for casual fishing. Nice pool close by and picnic shelters. They now have a disc golf course and plenty of trails. Camp store needs more options and there is WiFi there. Old orchard is the only camp section with WiFi.
