    Lakedale Resort

    Glamping!

    We had Nevas Canvas Tent #6. It was amazing! Glamping at its finest! King size bed was super comfy. We had a huge deck overlooking one of the three lakes. Our tent also had a bathroom w/ a toilet and shower, an electrIc heater, a trundle bed/couch, and electrical outlets. They currently have 6 of these Nevas tents, 16 canvas tents (w/o water/restrooms/electricity), 6 huge log cabins, 7 yurts (w small kitchens), 37 or so camping sites, 4 RV sites, and an Airstream you can rent. There is also a traditional lodge (not sure how many rooms, but it looked nice). Canvas tents and lodge come w/ breakfast. We will for sure come back!

    Hidden Village RV Park & Campground

    Great price, very nice manager lady.

    I rented a long term space here for over 2 years while working in Washington. Price was by far the best around. It's a very good sized place with spaces to accommodate even the largest trailers. Even when full there's room to maneuver.Full hookups, wifi, bathrooms, shower, laundry room, swimming pool. Has seperate parking for boats, utility trailers etc. Lots of big trees around for a fair amount of shade. Is pet friendly. Manager lady is very nice. Has a separate non power section for tents or dry camping. It's not the fanciest but for the price is great.

    Deception Pass State Park Campground

    Cozy campsites !

    There were SO MANY available campsites when we got there. About mid afternoon. The ranger was super friendly and welcoming! The bathrooms were nice and had showers that require tokens that you can buy with your site at check in. The sites vary in size and shape but most of them are decently private/ spaced apart. The site next to us never got booked, probably because it was small, but it was nice for us because it was only a few bushes away. Sites include a picnic table and fire ring with grill grate . There was a trail to the beach not far from us and it was super nice. Although there are plenty of signs that require dogs to be on leashes most people did not adhere to those rules, so keep an eye out if you're bringing the doggos. Very family friendly, very cozy, very nice stay!

    Lakedale Resort

    Family oriented campground with a great location

    I reserved a "family campsite" for tent camping with a friend this past week. The campground has a great location and is easily accessible from all that the San Juan Island has to offer. The sites are large and well appointed, ours was in a nice wooded area, had two picnic tables, a nice fire pit with grill and multiple flat spots for our tent. The sites don't offer a ton of privacy and we were surrounded by large groups of families, which was a bit noisy. We arrived at this campground after spending the 3 prior nights in the backcountry, so we were pretty excited to take advantage of the bathhouse and shower facilities. We may have just caught the campground at a bad time, but we were shocked to see how filthy the bathrooms and showers were. The showers were ice cold and looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The price was also rather steep ($66/night for the most basic camp site offered) but understandable considering the lack of availability for campsites during the high season on the island.

    Overall, I would definitely recommend this campground to a family looking for fun activities for the kids while staying on the island. The resort also offers many other types of accommodations that I would be interested to try in the future including cabins, airstream trailers and "glamping" canvas tents!

    Mt. Baker Lodging - Cabin #95 - Hot Tub, BBQ, Fireplace, WiFi, Pets Ok, Sleeps-4!

    Perfect Basecamp for a ski weekend

    I booked this cabin through Mt. Baker lodgings which has about 100 properties in this area to choose from. It was the perfect spot to access and ski Mt. Baker for 3 days while on vacation.

    The check-in process and finding the cabin was super easy just make sure you know where to check-in prior to leaving a cell service area as service is basically non-existent when you get there.

    The cabin had everything we needed from kitchen utensils to linens, to a washer and dryer not to mention some added perks like the grill, hot tub, and fireplace. This cabin has 2 full-size queen beds, a foldout futon in the living room, and 2 bathrooms. It was super spacious!

    The cabin was near Glacier, WA which is the closest town to Mt. Baker and has a small assortment of stores although I would recommend you buy the bulk of your groceries beforehand as a selection in the area is limited.

    All in all, this was the perfect spot for a few days of skiing at Mt. Baker. It was so easy to access the ski area and the cabin was the ideal getaway in the mossy forests of Northern Washington. It was tucked away in a thickly forested neighborhood full of similar houses which were great for walking. The nearby river also was a great spot for a short hike.  I will definitely be staying here again!

    West Beach Resort

    Nice but pricey

    General: West Beach Resort offers a variety of accommodations from tent sites to water/electric sites to tent cabins to regular cabins. It is situated right on the water where you can enjoy ice cream, cocktails, and popcorn (popcorn is free) at sunset during the summer. Much about this resort is nice but at almost $80 per night for a campsite (water and electric), it is pricier than we are used to paying. However, there are limited options for camping on the island and it was high season when we were there. While Moran State Park is nice, there are no hookups, further reducing your options. 

    Site Quality: The water and electric sites have rock/gravel driveways. Some have trees separating them from others, but many do not have any separation/privacy between sites. All can accommodate a vehicle and RV and/or tent. Site 47 was nice as it had only tent sites on one side and a good amount of space on the other. You should be aware that for many of the sites (not 47), the hookups are on the “wrong” side, necessitating driving your RV in rather than backing in. This makes it challenging when it comes time to unhook and then re-hook when leaving the site, especially for larger rigs. The other challenge is that there is no dump station or sewer hookups. This was not an issue for us in our camper van but people in RVs should be aware of this. 

    Bathhouse: The women’s bathhouse was reasonable with three stalls, three sinks, and two showers. There was a bench at one end. Lighting was not quite sufficient, especially in the showers as I discovered when I took one at 8 pm one night! Also, the showers cost $.50 for 90 seconds. With the price of the campsite, it would have been nice to not have to pay extra for the showers. 

    Activities: Many activities are available, but all are on the pricey side (ex: a SUP rental for one hour is $25; kayak and whale watching and kayak tours cost over$100). You can bring your own toys and also fish from the dock. There is a small shop with gifts and sundries. There is a hot tub, but it comes with an extra cost. There is a small beach but not suitable for beach walks. Be aware that the ferry terminal if you want to explore other islands is about a 20-minute drive and the town of Eastsound is about three miles away. We rented bikes in town and rode back and forth but be aware that there are hills and sections of the road with narrow or no shoulder. Orcas Island Pottery is less than a mile(an easy walk) and a definite not-miss (closed on Mondays). 

    This was our fifth time in the San Juan Islands, and we enjoy the area very much. While we enjoyed our time at West Beach, considering the price, the extras costing additional, and some of the less desirable sites, it merited three instead of four stars in my opinion.
