Camping Allowed Only in Designated Sites

There are 8 designated walk in tent camping sites that are free on a first come first served basis. Camping is permitted only in these sites. No RV or vehicle camping is allowed in the parking lot.

This area is very popular for local guide companies, please park respectfully in a single spot. Expect the area to be very busy (crowded) during the day, the lot fills up entirely most days.

Small tent only camping

This is a new very nice parking area with a vault toilet that has been developed by the BLM for folks climbing the nearby rock features. However, there are about 8 very small walk-in tent designated sites for free camping. No RV camping noted on signs, but seems that folks camp in their vans and trucks in the large parking area also. This site is just on outside boundary of Zion NP and the Kolob road is paved. Views of the Zion features are amazing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Lambs Knoll camping managed by the BLM and what regulations apply?

Yes, Lambs Knoll Climbing Site Camping is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The campground offers 8 designated walk-in tent sites available for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Camping is permitted only within these designated sites, and no RV or vehicle camping is allowed in the parking area. The regulations specifically prohibit camping in vehicles in the parking lot, though some van campers may stay overnight. The area includes a vault toilet facility and a developed parking area. Since this is a popular climbing destination, visitors should park respectfully to leave space for others.

Where is Lambs Knoll camping located?

Lambs Knoll Climbing Site Camping is located less than an hour's drive from Zion National Park. The site features a developed parking area with nearby rock climbing features. The campground is situated in a quiet, scenic area that attracts both climbers and occasional stargazing groups. For precise directions, visitors should check with the local BLM office as this is a relatively small, specialized camping area primarily serving the climbing community.

What climbing opportunities are available at Lambs Knoll?

Lambs Knoll is primarily developed as a climbing destination, with the BLM creating the parking area and facilities specifically for climbers accessing the nearby rock features. The site is popular enough that local climbing guide companies frequently bring clients here. The climbing area attracts sufficient traffic to justify dedicated camping sites and a vault toilet facility. While specific climbing routes and difficulties aren't detailed, the area clearly offers enough climbing opportunities to make it a destination worth developing specialized facilities for. For current conditions and specific route information, check with local climbing shops or guide services.

How does Lambs Knoll compare to other camping areas in Zion?

Unlike the busy, developed campgrounds within Zion National Park, Lambs Knoll offers a quieter, more primitive camping experience less than an hour from the park. While Zion's campgrounds typically require reservations and charge fees, Lambs Knoll provides free camping on a first-come, first-served basis. The site is considerably smaller with only 8 walk-in tent sites compared to Zion's larger facilities. Lambs Knoll has minimal amenities (just a vault toilet), whereas Zion campgrounds offer more services. The atmosphere at Lambs Knoll is peaceful except when stargazing groups occasionally meet there in the evenings.
