Wood fires were permitted even when restrictions were active elsewhere in Utah during his visit. Tree cover is minimal. That's worth knowing before you book. The bathrooms include flush toilets and free showers with reliable hot water, though at least one reviewer considers them a step below facilities at Wasatch Mountain State Park. A general store is on-site, and the East Canyon State Park Cabins offer an alternative for those who want a more sheltered stay nearby.

Dixie Campground remains open for walk-in reservations during the winter season. Please note, water is turned off in the winter. Vault restrooms are located near the campground & full facility restrooms remain open year-round near the General Store.

All campsites and yurts are available for reservation on a four-month rolling basis. For example, on January 10 individual sites are available for reservation through May 10. You can book a maximum of 13 days beyond the last date of the reservation window. For more information please contact our Reservation Call Center at 800-322-3770 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) Monday through Friday. The call center is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

USE THE OGDEN DIRECTIONS) Take Interstate 80 east for six miles, take the Emigration/East Canyon Exit, then 21 miles northeast on State Road 65, then a mile west on State Road 66 (north end of reservoir). Big Rock campground is located at mile marker 15 on State Road 65. From Ogden: Go 17 miles east on Interstate 84 to the Morgan Exit 103, then south on State Road 66, 14 miles southeast on State Road 66 (one mile past the dam) to the entrance.

Good option for families and water activities (can be busy)

Stayed in spot 28 which was good and had view of lake until neighbor pulled in with a giant 5th wheel. Spot 19 is in the middle and seems to have a good view regardless of who is parked in adjacent spots, and spot 32 also seems to have a good view and the advantage of being on the outer edge so no backdoor neighbors. Park has a general store but we did not go inside. Bathrooms/showers are decent with sufficient hot water, but are not as nice as those at Wasatch Mtn. 

Food aside: Had freeze-dried coconut curry chicken with extra packet of ready-to-eat Wal Mart chicken added and it was good. Also had chicken teriyaki with chicken packet added. Spiced both up with garlic powder.

Bathrooms/showers are decent with sufficient hot water.

Food aside: Had freeze-dried coconut curry chicken with extra Wal Mart packet of chicken added and it was good and low FQ (fart quotient). Also had chicken teriyaki with chicken packet added. Always add garlic powder, perhaps smoked paprika.

Decent water destination!

We went during the summer and had a great time. The views were perfect and the lake is active with choice of water fun rentals. The site is standard with a small lawn area and a pavilion. Bathrooms are onsite as well as showers. Pet friendly but need to be on a leash at all times. Great for RV’s as power and water is present on each site.

A good example of how government campsites should be done

Overall, the facility is neat and clean for a campground. My visit was at the end of the 4th weekend, so some messes were expected. My campsite was in good shape upon setting up my 30ft trailer. All sites are back-in and mostly flat asphalt. A little rig leveling might be needed. The outside of the loop at Dixie C.G. is electric and water only. The inside of the loop has full hook-ups. 

 All sites have long, sturdy metal tables and a metal cover over a concrete pad. A fire pit was adjacent. Even with fire restrictions almost everywhere else in Utah, wood fires were permitted in the provided pit. Common area toilets are well maintained, containing flush toilets and running water. Most service buildings also contain free showers.

A one-star deduction is due to the effects of climate change, which is out of the Park's control to an extent. That said, my beef is with maintenance of the beach - a nice beach by the way. It's obvious where the historical water level use to be. Wish I could have seen the reservoir full because it may never happen again. But I digress. I think the park should rake or scrape the beach surface to remove offensive weeds and people's discards. That takes workers, budget and equipment. My guess is our State representatives lack interest to fund state parks for such mediation measures. It would greatly enhance the visual appeal and safety for families at the water's edge.

Great amenities! Great place for a picnic.

Close to Favis and Weber counties, this is a great place for 1 or 2 night stays. We usually stay here every spring. The campground is a short walk to the "beach." There is a great picnic area between the boat ramp and campground. In the spring the water is right up near it. Later in the summer, the water goes down and there is a real nice beach for kids to play. Not many trees but pretty good campground.

Good fishing but not much shade

The state park is on the northeast shore of the lake and features lots of good fishing as well as picnic areas and some exposed hot hiking trails. Water level has been steadily dropping here as with most waterbodies in the state this year but good sized smallmouth bass can be caught. Landed a few little ones that we ended up cooking whole. A great place to spend a really hot day if you have a boat to take out on the water

Hot!

There are not any trees in this camp site, so it is really hot. The cows and lambs are all around. There is a little store at the East Canyon resort, that is just up the road. The water access isn’t super easy, the campground is a little higher than the beach

East Canyon Campground-Yurt

We stayed in a yurt and it was an amazing experience! The yurt had a cozy gas powered fireplace. It got down to about 30 degrees but we were actually too hot. Beautiful views of the lake and mountains. Woke up to deer outside our yurt. Great experience!
