Hikers and explorers heading to Capitol Reef will find direct trail access from some of the sites at the far end of this dispersed area, which sits a couple of miles off Notom-Bullfrog Road at roughly 5,535 feet elevation. The road in is dirt and narrow in places, but reviewers consistently describe it as easy going, with one noting it qualifies as a fairly mild 4x4 route. RVs up to 25 feet can make the drive. No fees apply.
Sites are spread among juniper trees on flat ground, with rock fire rings already in place at many spots. The layout clusters into a loose cul-de-sac arrangement, which works well for small groups but can mean neighbors on busy weekends. Weekday visits tend to mean the area to yourself. Pleasant Creek runs nearby, and the dry river bed is worth exploring on foot. There is no cell service here, so plan accordingly.
"Beautiful mountain view, open location a couple of miles off the Notom Bullfrog road," notes DL M., whose October visit confirmed the site's open sightlines toward the surrounding range. The vegetation provides some wind cover, particularly at sites with denser brush. Pets are welcome, campfires are permitted, and alcohol is allowed under BLM regulations. Campers wanting a developed alternative nearby can consider Notom-Bullfrog Road BLM Dispersed — Notom Bench, about two miles to the east, or browse campgrounds around Torrey for additional options in the region.
