West Texas RV Park Nostalgia

A Good Sam Park. Outdated. $28/night for a Tent site. Much needed showers and a pool after a few days in Big Bend. Place definitely could use some TLC, however, site was clean and management were very friendly.

Lastly, there was an abnormal amount of flies throughout the property. Not sure if it’s a seasonal thing.

Perfect for a touch 'n go

We stayed just one night on our way through west Texas.  Full hookups and the WiFi was decent--something that's always a surprise at places that boast "free WiFi."  Some interesting terrain to the south, including the McDonald Observatory.

Quick Stop

Nice little campground. Quiet except for the trains coming through at night. Nothing they can do about that. Front office lady was Very nice and helpful with my questions. Fills up later in the day as it seems to be used for overnights and short stays. 40.00 night with Good Sam’s. I would definitely stop by again if I’m coming through. Basic laundry facilities but worked out well for me.

Ok for overnight stop.

We only needed an overnight stop. Friendly staff at check in. Level gravel pads and real grass next to the site. lots of area to walk our dog and even grassy areas. It wasn’t crowded and we asked and were given a site with no one on either side of us. Sites are long enough for big rigs. Bathrooms were clean and have showers which we didn’t use. Office sells beer, wine and a few other items. Restaurant is closed. Park is up from a truck stop but far enough away that it’s quiet at night. Overall the place has a “tired” look but tidy. Would stop again if I needed a place in this area.

Convenient and quiet

We stayed here one night in our class C while crossing the country. This place is a former KOA. Sites are dirt, level and well maintained. Hookups are in good condition. Neighbors could be a little close if the place is full. Some sites included a table, all had a grassy area. All sites appeared to be pull through.

The park itself is large and included many amenities. I noticed two dog runs, a playground, and a fishing pond. The playground needed some work, but there was a large grassy area next to it. Everything else looked in good condition. There were other amenities that we did not utilize. There are some renovations in progress. The propane fill station was unavailable and needed service. The park appears to be well run.

The RV park is conveniently located near the highway, but not too close. Highway noise was present, but distant and not a bother. The park was quiet and peaceful.

We had 3 bar 5g with Verizon.

This was a very nice place to stay a night while traveling. It seems to be worth a few days is you are looking to relax. We will stay again when traveling this way.

Nice clean park

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but it’s a nice clean park. The sites are gravel but our site was very level. Some of the sides come with the picnic tables and there is a little pond, there are cactuses throughout the park that give it a nice homey feel. There’s a café that’s open for breakfast and they sell propane. My biggest complaint about the park was some highway noise and it was hard getting a hold of them to make a reservation.

Surprise in the Desert

Well, wasn't this the dark horse! There isn't much between Alamogordo, NM and Big Bend. TX, but this is it! In the outskirts of Van Horn is a little rv park with FHU. Most surprisingly, it has a café that serves breakfast and dinner ( no breakfasts on Mondays). The food was good! The stay was quiet, with no mishaps.

This is not a KOA campground

Nice spot to stay overnight, far enough from the freeway. This is a Sam’s club campground. This changed a few years ago

Quiet Place to Stay

This park is friendly and a quiet place to stay. The spaces are generous and level. We stayed a month, so in the area for long term, the wifi is not very good, but T-Mobile and Verizon cell service are both good. The staff is friendly and we enjoyed our time here with the longer term campers. Be careful of the really sharp burrs that are on the desert floor. We tracked them in on our shoes and it was painful barefoot find. The solitude is great for downtime from the world.

Welcome to the desert

We arrived on a windy, cool day. The sites are level and the internet is great. There is a cafe (that will deliver breakfast and dinner to your RV if you call-in your order) and a store in the main building with any necessities (or beer) you may want or need. The staff is friendly and put our name on a spot without taking payment over the phone, letting us pay when we arrived. You will pay more if you pay with a card. The campground is pretty dusty and sparse, but it is further from the interstate than other parks in town, so you have less noise. There are a fenced dog area, a pond, and stables.

Great Small Town RV Park

For those traveling on I-10 through Texas, it is a LONG road.  Van Horn RV Park was a place to go for a one nighter.  In this and other similar small towns, often these are ratty dirty spots filled with oil rig or solar array construction folks, so call ahead for a reservation for a specific date.  We were not disappointed, staff was friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to help us.  Our spot was level, clean, electricity worked, Verizon cell signal was adequate and we had just what we needed for our night.  And, this place wasn’t overly full with seasonals so it was clean and tidy.  When we travel on I-10 through Texas we will come here again.  Due to COVID-19, the cafe was closed, but that would have been a nice addition.

One Night Stop

Great place to stop. Very clean. Wifi and cable TV are perfect. All gravel level sites. Lots of space between sites. Easy on/off I10. Friendly staff. Cafe on site too. Will definitely come back.
