Showers and good shade, loud machine noise

We reserved a site here for the part of our trip between Hot Springs and Big Bend. It was a pleasant and quiet campground, and had many sites available. The cedars provided shade and the bathhouse was clean with hot water, which was amazing on a long camping road trip. There was a generator or…

Would go back

We stayed here twice 10 days apart in December since it was convenient incident to a longer trip. Our first site was in Oak Grove which I thought was much superior to Pecan Grove, site-wise. Pecan Grove 66 was by some nice warm clean bathrooms and showers but the site was up a steep slant and was…

Extremely Safe and Family Friendly

We stayed in a tent only spot for 8 days in Dec. Really quiet even with a trail behind us. Lots of winding beautiful trails. One of the cheaper Texas State Parks so the trails aren't very long.

BUT the real hidden gem was in the bathroom by the yurts. They have a disabled shower. So it's within…

Great service

We met with 18 degree temps (Feb) and our truck wouldn't start the next morning. The park staff contacted the BEST repair shop in Abilene for us, and they fixed us right up.

The park is large with many trails, bird feeder, and yurts you can rent. I bet it's nice in Spring.

Nice Park. Great Value

Nice Park. Good distance between sites. Only minor complaints. Sites aren't too level and bring bug spray. Otherwise great, clean and comfortable. Be careful of the winds when driving in this area, especially on the interstate.

Beautiful!!

Excellent campground/state park. Lots of trees, trails and roads. Interesting CCC structures from the 30’s. The pool was closed, but it was November.... very friendly staff. Lots of deer and wildlife

Breathtaking Views

We used this for a one night pass thru but I would have loved to spent the week. Gorgeous views, and a perk, perfect weather. The night sky is amazing, facilities clean and well kept. Restrooms and showers were in good repair. Electric and water hook-ups with a dump station at exit. Site was a…

Great campground

We stayed in campground #37 in Cedar Grove and thought it was wonderful. The site was spacious, and it had a water spout, a picnic table and fire pit. The trees are really pretty in this area. The bathrooms were not the cleanest I’ve seen during COVID times but the entire campground was empty so we…

A small but nice park

The set up of this park is a little different. There are two sides. One side has the camping with a few trails. The other side has the lake with a bit longer of a trail.

The trails are easy to do and the camp side is heavily wooded so it’s a nice walk even in the summer months.

Good for overnight stop

This state park was clean and well maintained, and nothing wrong with it. But for me personally, it’s more of a “stopping off/overnight” park rather than a destination. We stayed overnight on our way from DFW to Davis Mountains State Park. The sites were spacious, but not too shaded, so be sure to…

Short stay

We just stayed one day in this place, pretty nice, we could see the lake from the window of our RV, had a nice little trail behind our campsite, but we could not explore like we like . But I would go back there again for a few days if I have a chance. June 23 to 24. 2020

Check for burn ban before you book!

Stayed in the RV site, and everything was as expected. Grounds were kept, clean, and over all park was pretty quite in the evening. My only complaint was that there was a burn ban that we didn't find out about till we arrived. I booked online, via the state parks website. Other parks in the region…

Overnight Family Camping

We stayed overnight in June of 2020. The campground was pretty full but the spots in the loop we stayed in were far enough apart. We did have a few people ask to go through our campsite to access the area behind us to get to the trail. The bathrooms have a shower and toilets and were so clean! The…

Great spot for families

We're down there a couple of years ago and really had a relaxing  time. We enjoyed the fishing and sitting around the campfire at night. Had the whole family there and had a great time.

Abilene State Park + Trees + Swimming Pool + Lake (sort of)

Abilene State Park is an interesting park to visit in the middle of Texas. The park is a short drive from the City of Abilene so it receives quite a few visitors on the weekend. During the weekday, you'll find considerably more peace and quiet.

You can pick up supplies in the city and there is…
