Beautiful canyon

My family stayed in the Caprock Canyon state park Honey Flats loop. Stunning views of the canyon are within a short walk from the campground. The paved pad at our site was level, and there was also a sheltered picnic table at the site. All sites were very spacious and felt private. A herd of bison…

Cool Little Park

I spend a couple days here, camping in a primitive / hike-in site, and hiking during the day. It’s a very cool park and a must-visit for anyone in the DFW area since it’s an easy weekend trip. The primitive sites could be farther apart - they were close enough that I frequently unintentionally…

Can't wait to come back!

Camped a single night and unfortunately caught a gnarly winter thunderstorm over night. We were looking forward to the awesome start nights we've read so much about, but will have to wait till next time. The camp site was nice tho. Fire ring, grills, covered table, and enough space between sites.…

Home sweet home....

The Rolling Plains has been home to my family for a long long time and it’s always wonderful to be back. Copper Breaks is a beautiful, wild place perfectly managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. A light touch all around with simple, compact campgrounds to keep a small footprint on the terrain. This…

Awesome!

Had a 2 night stay on our cross country trip and it was perfect.  The campsites were well spaced, level, clean, and easy hook ups (no septic though). We took advantage of the trails and did a 7 mile hike on the moderate level.  Low level military jets occasional during the day was the only faint…

Do not tent camp here. They mislead you and then fine you $200

Do not tent camp here. They will mislead you and then give you a huge fine!!! When we booked the campsite as a fun activity for our pandemic fatigued 6-year old granddaughter, they told me our car would be close to our campsite. We get there at 4 on a Friday afternoon in November and we were the…

Wonderful Camping

We stayed in the South Prong Tent Area, not to be confused with the South Prong Primitive area (which you have to hike into).

We stayed on site SU037. There is no tree cover, which is ok if you want that morning sun warmth, but know that if it gets super windy (which apparently happens a lot…

Great camping with amazing scenery

My son and I spent a night here and it was great! I’d recommend south prong primitive sites. Got to sleep right at the base of the canyon and there was plenty of space between the campsites.

My only problem was that some of the trails were not very well marked. It took us a while to find the…

Well maintained and accessible canyon exploration

Wild Horse Campground Spot 74

I showed up at the welcome center with a reservation for primitive camping, not realizing the only spot to set up my RTT would be the parking lot. A nice lady working the desk, slide me into a spot that had cancelled earlier that day at the Wild Horse…

Bison Camp!

Stayed at South Prong Tent Camping area, site 37. Star gazed at the Milky Way for hours. Heard coyotes yipping at night and the bison herd walked through our site around five in the morning. Was the most amazing experience to be so close and hear them. Front desk staff were very nice as well. 10/10…

Quiet, loads of stars

Stayed at campsite 37 at the equestrian camping area. All other sites in this campground were empty so it was very quiet. My campsite offered great views of the canyon and an amazing array of stars at night. Flush toilets, showers close by and water pumps at the site. Great site and worth the $15.

Word’s can’t describe this!

We LOVED camping here. We spent one night at the Little Red Campground, which has a surreal view down into the Red River. Our site had a covered patio, table and running water, and short walk to the outhouse (but no restroom with sinks). Sites were pretty private due to dense bushes and space…

Great stay!

Beautiful park. Clean heated bathrooms. Tons of Bison and the views cant be beat. We stopped here on a whim and the campground was full. They were able to accommodate us for the night dry camping in the equestrian section. Was nice, not many people camping there. Staff were all super helpful and…

Beautiful scenery

This is a really great campground. I would have given it 5 stars but the dump station is out of order and has been for a long time. The sites are very spacious. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The trails are well kept and plentiful for walking, bikes, horses. The lake is nice as well.…
