Beach excursions: Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island offers beach camping approximately 45 minutes from Lozano. "You are on the Gulf and also on the inter coastal waterway. You are just a short walk to a beach or fishing," explains Linda V. The park includes pavilions, showers and a jetty for fishing.
SpaceX viewing: Tropical Trails RV Resort provides a base for watching SpaceX launches. "SpaceX is close, we just watched the latest test flight," reports TSA A. The resort's location offers convenient access for viewing rocket launches from the Boca Chica facility.

Spacious RV sites: Tropical Trails RV Resort stands out for site spacing. "The one thing I absolutely love about Tropical Trails is that the spaces between sites are some of the largest I've seen. It's so refreshing not to be right on top of your neighbor," writes Patrick O., who also notes the resort provides "a newer (and clean) picnic table and a nice covered fireplace (and wood!)."
Winter weather: Encore Fun-N-Sun appeals to seasonal campers. "We love the winter weather! Close to Mexican border town. The park has a lot of activities during the winter season. Most activities end March 31," says Joyce T. The mild climate attracts many winter visitors from colder regions.
Birding opportunities: Encore Sunshine provides a convenient base for wildlife viewing. "We stayed here a month in April 2019. We originally were going to stay two weeks, but we extended due to the great birding in the area," writes Meandering Life, who adds "Estero Llano, South Padre Island, Santa Ana, Hugh Ramsey Park, and Laguna Atascosa NWR are within an hour drive."
What you should know
Train noise: At Tropical Trails RV Resort, some sites are near railroad tracks. "There are train tracks on the north end of the resort, and we were very close to them. Train seems to roll through at about 1030pm every night, but you honestly don't even notice after the first night," reports Patrick O.
Water quality issues: Hard water affects multiple properties. At Tropical Trail Mobile Home & RV Park, James L. notes "The water is incredibly hard and stains everything." Consider bringing water conditioners or using bottled water for drinking and cooking.
Check-in procedures: Isla Blanca Park can have lengthy check-in times. "We arrived at check-in time & was told to sign in on a waiting list. They called names by yelling out the door. Waited about an hour to finally check in & was told to fill out 3 pages of info," shares Sarah L.
Tips for camping with families
Beach safety: Isla Blanca Park offers family-friendly beaches. Kelly S. notes the park has "Close proximity to the beach with full hookups and close to all the SPI has to offer. Restrooms and showers were clean and in good repair." During summer months, the park provides lifeguards for additional safety.
Footwear requirements: Pack closed-toe shoes for grass areas. "The only single complaint is the tiny burrs that are all over the grass area and dunes. They get tracked in and hurt when finding them with bare feet. Our youngest screamed bloody murder the first time walking in flip flops over the grass," warns Bret N. at Isla Blanca Park.
Wildlife viewing opportunities: Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park offers bird watching possibilities. "We enjoyed watching the birds, particularly the pelicans which entertained us by diving into the water in front of our campsite," shares Larry R., making this one of the more dog-friendly campgrounds near Lozano where families can observe wildlife from their sites.

Internet reliability: Tropical Trails RV Resort provides exceptional connectivity. "High Speed Internet (ethernet from the pedestal) was very fast (over 100mbit). No issues with multiple 4k stream, and/or Zoom/Teams calls," notes Patrick O., making this an option for working remotely among pet-friendly campgrounds near Lozano.
Road conditions: At Twin Palms RV Resort, Alan R. reports "Interior roads are in need of repair. Outside loop new." Many Lozano area campgrounds have varying road quality, with older sections typically showing more wear.
Reservation timing: Campgrounds fill quickly during winter months. At Encore Tropic Winds, Tom D. appreciated "all the activities/entertainment they offered" but noted persistent winds from "13-40 mph" can affect outdoor comfort.
