      Goose Island State Park Campground

      Goose Island State Park

It was cold & windy when first arrived ahead of the ice storm so tucked into the wooded area where brush & trees helped block the really cold north winds the first couple of days. Then moved over to the beach waterfront site at the west end and it was very nice picnic shelter & table close to the restrooms. Clean park & restrooms, great views of the Gulf of America and great for bird watching, biking & enjoying the peaceful nature. Friendly and helpful staff.

      Ocean view

We loved the views, birding, amenities, space, and vibe of the campground. We stayed in the primative area. The trees were a bit low coming in, but if you take it slow and drive more towards the center of the incoming road you are fine with high clearance rvs. It is a bird watchers paradise.

      Wilderness Oaks RV Resort

Friendly, helpful, delightful folks and lovely Park

We wanted to give a shout out, to Wilderness Oaks RV Resort in Rockport Texas. First off, the management is amazing. Courteous, informative, helpful and always bright and cheerful, makes dealing with them a enjoyable. If you have any issues such as mechanical or personal, they got your back! Their love of animals shows cuz they always have cookies for your pup no matter where in the resort they run across you! Our dog Pandy, a 170 pound Newfoundland lady, is treated like a Diva and she responds accordingly with affection to anyone in the crew to the point she drags my hubby to get to them haha. They have lots that will fit various sized RV’s including behemoths and they have storage area to park extra vehicles or trailers and it’s a reasonable monthly fee. This RV Resort is a well-established business and the maintenance crew work nonstop to keep this place tidy. You can tell its appreciated because so many snowbirds have been retuning for years, and others leave their rigs year around! They let you have porches built for your RV if you’re tired of using you’re built in stairs, you can have plants and flowers and hummingbird feeders even! The Deer walk right through the park, unafraid and we see them mornings and evenings EVERY DAY! Their laundry room is huge, and the gym is great, as well as the fabulous salt water pool! The community hall has tons of events everyday including pot lucks now and then and craft fairs as well as games of all kinds. The facilities are immaculate, showers, bathrooms everything is well presented and their cleaning crew does a excellent job. Bill the manager actually held a incredible luau this winter, cooked a whole pig for it and tons other foods were provided as well as people pot lucked it too.. it was flat out delicious!! As far as accommodations for disabilities of different flavors this place tries to meet all standards and I was in a wheel chair for the first 2 years we came and NEVER felt unable to do whatever I wished or go wherever I wanted here, the paved areas and ramps to the office are perfect. Everyone is so sweet and tries so hard to be accommodating, I feel like this is a second family now. I spent 2 weeks hospitalized with pneumonia and this place jumped in to help Randy deal with the dog so he didn’t have to worry about her, everyone offered to take turns looking after her every day while he traveled half hour twice a day and stayed for 2 or 3 hours with me at the hospital. Even the regular’s in the park offered their help! We feel blessed. Randy, Jeanne and Pandy

      Goose Island State Park Campground

      Perfect for Whooper searching!

I booked this spur of the moment for myself. I wanted to tent camp someplace with easy access to finding Whooping cranes. This was perfect. Great campsite, plenty of privacy, water available at the campsite. Great restroom facilities within a short walk. Two shower stalls - clean, plenty of dyer pressure and hot water, outer bench for organizing clots and toiletries. Big Tree was only a couple of miles away, easy to get to for morning light photography. I Abslotuly loved this campsite for this time of year. It was humid so things were pretty water soaked in the mornings out of the tent but it's coastal camping.

      Goose Island State Park Campground

      Texas Gulf Coast birding

Great park, roomy sites, bit of noise in the morning when the airboats are leaving. I imagine that's worse on the sites next to the water. Bathrooms/showers were adequate/clean. Hiking/biking trails around and thru the campground. Really big park, lots of Live Oaks. Weather was HUMID (we'refrom CO...) but not too hot. This park is about a 40min drive from Aransas NWR. so perfect for us!

      Wilderness Oaks RV Resort

      Management is horrible! Go elsewhere

The park is old, spots are short, there are stickers all over, gophers are making mounds everywhere & the WiFi sucked! I was there to work camp!! Do NOT go there unless you want to be yelled at, belittled, I walked on eggshells everyday! Even customers were yelled at as Bill was out of control a lot! 8+ of us work campers were gone in 2+ months!! Many of the people were very nice but they must speak up!! The owner must step in!!

      Stay away!!!

Another great rally at Wilderness Oaks

Although I have hosted many rallies at this park, this time I was a guest. The staff here is absolutely great. They can get anyone into the RV sites so if you aren't great at backing, don't worry about it. They also have pull through. This time we didn't have the rally room to ourselves as the Winter Texans are here but it was never a problem because there are several areas available and it also meant we could participate in the park activities as well. And the park has lots going on. The park breakfast was great on Saturday. There was line dancing, wreath making, hot dog roast, coffee every morning, bingo, games. Of course, they have a great salt water pool heated to 89 degrees. Bill, the park manager is great and every one of the staff members is always ready to help guests. There is so much going on in Rockport this month. You couldn't possibly get bored

      Great visit

I have personally stayed at this park many times over the last 8 years and have hosted about 7 rallies for RVing Women. They have a great rally/community room with a full kitchen plus a separate game room. They also have a wonderful salt water swimming pool which is heated in the winter. Bathrooms are individual family style. Whether staying with a rally group or by yourself, the staff has always been great. They also honor Passport America and their individual and rally rates are very reasonable. I noticed that previous reviews complained about the airport. I would like to point out that it is a very small airport for small private planes and small Air National Guard planes. While the Guard planes do practice touch and go landings at times, they only fly during the day. Pull through sites are nearer the road so there is some traffic noise during morning and evening traffic times.

      Gulf Waters RV Resort

      Beautiful Place

It's a great place to stay !!! Staff is nice and very helpful. Showers are clean. Every lot is different and some are very unique !!! I would venture to say that they all have different owners and some are for sale. The best part is the short walk or golf cart ride to the beach and ocean!!! Now for the downside of this place that we have found ! Mosquitoes in the evenings and mornings are intense especially around the ponds and grassy areas. So if you have pets be prepared to get eaten !!! The pet areas are close to the ponds and are small to say the least !!! The pet areas are scattered around the camp sites. Some are close to some of the campers. There are two vacant lots on the very Eastside of the property that are ok. The problem with these are that they have stickers (sand burrs)and if you have small hairy dogs it could be a horrible experience for your pet!!!

There are some full time owners/ residents/ guests. We have found a mix of campers. From the $30 k to the over $500 k plus crowd. Some people are friendly and some are not!!!! There is a private vibe to most of the crowd we feel!!!

You can also rent golf carts and drive them to Port A. You will have to drive them on the beach if you want to go to town on them. They are not allowed on the Highway !!

These are just our opinions and what we have experienced !! Have a great camping experience!!! That is all!!!

    Guide to Corpus Christi

Glamping in Corpus Christi, Texas typically experiences average summer temperatures reaching into the mid-90s°F with high humidity, while winter temperatures remain mild, rarely dropping below 50°F. The coastal location provides consistent Gulf breezes, which help moderate temperatures throughout the year but can create challenging conditions for outdoor cooking or tent setup. Gulf Coast camping is characterized by sandy soils and flat terrain with limited natural shade.

    What to do

Beach fishing opportunities: Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground offers an aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion. "The campground has a good view of the water and is near the fishing pier. Would camp again as an alternative to the beach," notes one visitor from Lake Corpus Christi State Park.

Wildlife viewing: Goose Island State Park provides excellent birdwatching opportunities, especially during winter migration seasons. "Visited in winter for birding. Range of camping facility options, we used the most basic and they were adequate. Amazing sunrises. Make sure to see 'The Big Tree' which is a short drive/bike ride away," shares a camper at Goose Island State Park.

Water activities: When water levels permit, Lake Corpus Christi supports swimming and boating. A family reported, "We camped with 2 kids and a dog and had a great time. There was fishing and a lake some were swimming in. We searched for wildlife and made s'mores. It was a good time!"

    What campers like

Privacy in wooded sites: The wooded areas at Goose Island State Park provide secluded camping experiences. "We really enjoyed staying in the wooded area of the park. Most spaces are very private because of the thick plant life. The beach spots looked cool but we didn't want the noise from the boats as mentioned in other posts," explains a visitor at Goose Island.

Beach accessibility: Gulf Waters RV Resort provides convenient access to Gulf beaches. "Great place for spending a quiet time with family. Clean and well taken care off. Great easy access to beach," notes one reviewer.

Full hookup affordability: Lake Corpus Christi offers reasonably priced full hookup sites. "Only $25 for full hookups, $15 for just water and electric, $10 for tents, $5 day fee. Lots of shade, lots of room in the FCU sites. Water is really low so no boat access, still beaches though," reports a camper.

    What you should know

Weather considerations: The Gulf Coast experiences seasonal storms and wind events that can affect camping comfort. "We hit some big wind 3/21/22. We were in the beach front with waves crashing over so we got luck and moved to the wooded area," explains a camper at Goose Island State Park Campground.

Hurricane recovery status: Some parks in the region continue to recover from hurricane damage. "The campground was nice and clean. There is still a lot of damage from the hurricane. I hadn't been there in over ten years and was very surprised at how much the area has changed," shares a visitor.

Noise issues: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby transportation. At Wilderness Oaks RV Resort, one camper noted, "It is an Airport near here, and they take off every 3 to 5 minutes! If that is not enough, than you have the major Hiway next to you!"

    Tips for camping with families

Cabin options: Lake Corpus Christi State Park offers cabin accommodations as alternatives to tent camping. "Stayed in a cabin out here and although it was very busy, it still felt like you had a bit of privacy," reports one visitor.

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds offer large sites suitable for family setups. "Very large spacious campsite. Restroom and shower located very close by. Camped site 60/61. Beautiful grounds. Lake walking distance. Had a wonderful time," shares a family who stayed at Lake Corpus Christi.

Seasonal planning: Winter visits can provide the best experience for families wanting wildlife encounters. One camper at Goose Island noted, "Right next to wildlife refuge, convenient to lots of beaches. Visited in winter for birding."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: When choosing an RV site, verify the pad length and levelness. A reviewer at Lake Corpus Christi warned, "Unlevel side-to-side concert site parking pad was in poor condition and barely long enough for 28 ft trailer."

Low branch awareness: RVers with taller rigs should be cautious about tree branches in wooded camping areas. At Goose Island, one RVer advised, "Watch out for low tree branches if you're staying in the wooded areas. If you're staying in the wooden area, stay on the outer loop if you're a big rig."

Drainage issues: After rain, some RV parks experience standing water problems. "The campground, especially on eastern half, has seriously poor drainage. We were trapped in our RV lot, unable to leave, because the water was too deep for our Class A to go through without damage/mess of some sort," reported an RVer at Wilderness Oaks.
