    Gulf Waters RV Resort

    Steps from the beach

Stayed here when a freak cold front came through complete with gale force winds. Although the internet service was effected, all other utilities remained online thankfully! As other reviews may have mentioned, this resort is comprised of privately owned lots, upgraded by the owners, and these are rented out when available. The site I stayed in was level, sewer 30/50 amp, water, and had a tiki hut with a wet sink, but I didn’t use the latter much because of the cold snap.

The resort sits in the middle of Mustang Island, so no walking to Padre or Port A. However, this makes it quiet and it is well cared for. I especially appreciated the beautiful mature palm trees, landscaping and the clean bath house with nice showers. There’s a laundry on site. $2 per load and the office has quarters. It’s quiet and friendly. If you stay 1 week or more, then there is a meter reading for the electric, on top of the rental fee.

The highlight for me was the proximity of this resort to the beach. Just a short walk to the boardwalk over the dunes and you’re there! Just beautiful. Very clean beach with portable potties available.

    Goose Island State Park Campground

    Great place

I visit a lot of the state parks in Texas. Goose Island is a good one. It's a great area for fishing because it's really close to rockport. While most of the state parks do not have WI-FI, they say they do. It's very poor. I have T-Mobile, and the cell service at Goose Island was great. 5G was great. Also, the digital TV signal was excellent. The park staff was very friendly and helpful. Goose Island is close to Walmart. HEB and many other stores in restaurants. The park all around is great. I will definitely return.

    Goose Island State Park Campground

Quieter & Private in the Wooded Area

The wooded area camping loops wind through lovely groves of Texas Live Oak, and Loblolly Pine, which make great habitat for winter warblers. The sites are spacious and set reasonably apart from each other to offer some privacy. Most campsites offer water and electricity. These sites are MUCH quieter than the Bayfront sites, which are plagued by loud boat engine traffic.  This area is much for secluded, thus not alot of walk/drive by traffic going through.

The bathroom building with internal hot-water shower stalls was relatively clean and updated. The area is great for all kinds of low-key activities like fishing, biking, walking, paddling etc. I wouldn’t go here if I had my heart set on swimming, though. The water is relatively shallow and in the middle of a massive oyster colony, pretty sharp edges on those bi-valves, so be careful.

One of the best activities, especially during the winter months, is birding. The area is the winter home to the endangered Whooping Cranes, Sandhill Cranes, Spoonbills and many, many more. Grab your binoculars and your birding guide!

    Goose Island State Park Campground

    LOVED this campground

I’ve been to about 10 different campgrounds this year on several different states. Goose island state park is by far the best. This time we stayed in the wooded area. I didn’t think I would like it (I loved the waterfront sites) but I loved it. The sites are a good distance apart and have new paved driveways that are very level. There is a pole for hanging lightning and a campfire pit. There is electricity and water. We are in site 115 and I have cell service which makes me very happy. I don’t think the site numbers 200’s have cell service as they are father in. It’s quiet and dark at night. The site has woods and trees behind so it’s very private. It can hold a pretty big rig. Ours is only 26 ft but it can hold much bigger. This site is fabulous. The weather is great and there are tons of things to do in the area. Book it! We are coming back.

    Goose Island State Park Campground

Hidden gem near the coast - Sept. 2020

Goose Island SP is a great little hidden gem of a park on the Texas Gulf Coast.  The camping area is small, but they've arranged the spots very well, with good vegetation between each spot that hides your spot from your neighbor.  They offer both 30 amp and 50 amp service, water, fire ring, table on cement pad and nice flat spots.  Good day use spots and excellent boat ramp with a fish cleaning table.  Yes there are bugs, but this is in the middle of reclaimed wetlands, so be prepared!  This is their world and we must adapt.  The bay-side camping area is the island part of the park and is still being renovated (as of Aug 2020), but according to park staff, they should be open by Nov 2020.  There is also a brand new, huge pier with boat access and fishing that will be open soon.  Near-by there is "The Big Tree", purported the oldest tree in Texas (1000-2000 years old!) and Rockport beach and all the other Texas coast attractions.   Highly recommend and we will be returning soon.

    Gulf Waters RV Resort

    Beautiful Place

It's a great place to stay !!! Staff is nice and very helpful. Showers are clean. Every lot is different and some are very unique !!! I would venture to say that they all have different owners and some are for sale. The best part is the short walk or golf cart ride to the beach and ocean!!! Now for the downside of this place that we have found ! Mosquitoes in the evenings and mornings are intense especially around the ponds and grassy areas. So if you have pets be prepared to get eaten !!! The pet areas are close to the ponds and are small to say the least !!! The pet areas are scattered around the camp sites. Some are close to some of the campers. There are two vacant lots on the very Eastside of the property that are ok. The problem with these are that they have stickers (sand burrs)and if you have small hairy dogs it could be a horrible experience for your pet!!!

There are some full time owners/ residents/ guests. We have found a mix of campers. From the $30 k to the over $500 k plus crowd. Some people are friendly and some are not!!!! There is a private vibe to most of the crowd we feel!!!

You can also rent golf carts and drive them to Port A. You will have to drive them on the beach if you want to go to town on them. They are not allowed on the Highway !!

These are just our opinions and what we have experienced !! Have a great camping experience!!! That is all!!!

    Goose Island State Park Campground

Beautiful park at the right time of year

Very clean and scenic campground. Plenty of space between sites if you park away from the seafront. I personally wouldn’t want to be right by the ocean as it’s just a 5 min walk from the more peaceful sheltered sites. We had campsite 115 and were very happy with it. Close to bathrooms and easy access in and out. Lots to see in the area, and if you want the beach we’d recommend Port Aransas which is only about 30 mins away. That beach is dog friendly and nicer than the closer Rockport. The short ferry ride across is also fun and free. Dolphins alongside the ferry. The only negatives would be mosquitos and humidity. Both were manageable given when we went, but only just. I’d aim for early spring or late fall to try to minimize these.

    Goose Island State Park Campground

    Beautiful site surrounded by woods

I camped here 25 years ago and it was just as lovely as I remembered. Lots of walking trails, some bird feeders and a great place to stay to go out to Aransas Reserve with Rockport Adventures boat tour. Captain Tommy knew his birds, not just Whooping Cranes.

The tent site is a "walk-in" but it was only a few feet to the site. The bathrooms and showers were clean.

Guide to Rockport

Glamping in Rockport, Texas offers both waterfront and wooded accommodations with varying levels of amenities. The region sits at sea level along the Texas Gulf Coast with humid subtropical climate conditions that remain relatively mild year-round. Several campgrounds require advanced planning during winter months when snowbirds and wildlife enthusiasts converge on the area to observe migratory birds.

What to do

Fishing from multiple locations: Goose Island State Park Campground features a fish cleaning table and excellent boat ramp access. "Good fishing spot. Water at primitive sites, separate from RV area," notes Shelly S.

Birding during winter migrations: Winter visitors can spot rare and endangered species throughout the coastal area. "Visited in winter for birding. Range of camping facility options, we used the most basic and they were adequate. Amazing sunrises," reports Harry H. from Goose Island State Park Campground.

Explore historic sites: The Karankawa Camping Area provides access to Spanish colonial architecture and Texas Revolution landmarks. "This park was so great. There was all kinds of history there that you can see for very low prices and also for free," says Red S. from Karankawa Camping Area — Goliad State Park.

What campers like

Private wooded sites: Many campers appreciate the natural screening between sites at certain campgrounds. "We really enjoyed staying in the wooded area of the park. Most spaces are very private because of the thick plant life," notes Katie B. about Goose Island State Park Campground.

Beach proximity: Luxury camping sites near the beach provide easy coastal access. "Steps from the beach... Just a short walk to the boardwalk over the dunes and you're there! Just beautiful. Very clean beach with portable potties available," writes Susan L. about Gulf Waters RV Resort.

Personalized glamping sites: Some upscale RV resorts feature individually owned and uniquely designed sites. "Sites are privately owned and owners build their own character. We have stayed twice and will be back again. Our sites both had outdoor cooking areas with a tiki hut like structure to protect from rain and sun," reports Andrew about Gulf Waters RV Resort.

What you should know

Noise considerations: Different campgrounds have varying noise levels that might impact your glamping experience. "The air boats run all day on the weekends and are loud. Watch out for low tree branches if you're staying in the wooded areas," warns Eric R. about Goose Island.

Weather preparedness: The Gulf Coast experiences sudden weather changes that can affect camping conditions. "Stayed here when a freak cold front came through complete with gale force winds. Although the internet service was effected, all other utilities remained online thankfully," explains Susan L. about Gulf Waters RV Resort.

Insect activity: Coastal and wooded areas have significant insect populations, particularly during warmer months. "The sites weren't too bad, but there were a lot of ants and insects around that's even more than usual. Definitely bring a tent screen," advises Bree W. from Karankawa Camping Area.

Tips for camping with families

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Many sites offer chances to observe local wildlife. "We hit some big wind 3/21/22. We were in the beach front with waves crashing over so we got luck and moved to the wooded area... Lots of birds, deer, and fishing," notes David N.

Security features: Some glamping locations provide controlled access for added security. "Security gate closed at midnight and reopens at 6am," reports Napunani about Coleto Creek Reservoir and Park.

Spacing considerations: Site sizes vary considerably between locations. "Each site is very spacious. Lots of trees and shade for South Texas," mentions Katie M. about Karankawa Camping Area at Goliad State Park.

Tips from RVers

Tree clearance: Wooded glamping sites may present challenges for larger rigs. "If you're staying in the wooden area, stay on the outer loop if you're a big rig," advises Eric R.

Infrastructure quality: Amenities and site conditions vary significantly between glamping facilities. "Gravel pads. New hookups," notes Shiner T. about Angels In Goliad RV Park.

Connectivity options: Internet access can be unpredictable but available at some locations. "Park WIFI sufficient to live stream TV," reports Napunani about Coleto Creek Reservoir and Park, though quality varies by location and weather conditions.
