    Woodland Lakes RV Park

    Extremely Nice Park with Ducks!

Extremely nice RV park with large spaces and gravel parking area. Spaces are wide and have a picnic table on a concrete pad. Electric and water is separated, I hate it when water is on the electrical box! Internet speed is really good and they have cable TV hookups. Two laundry facilities, multiple dumpsters, kids play area, dog run, and multiple fishing ponds. There are a lot of long term patrons but still a good number of back in and pull through spots available for short-term. If you need to be in the north Houston area, definitely highly recommended.

    Rainbow's End RV Park

The Escapees HQ at Rainbows End

If you are a full tie RVer you have probably heard of the Escapees. The Escapees is the largest mail forwarding service and the clyb caters to full time RVers. Livingston TX is their main Headquarters, they do have 2 other semi Headquarters in FL and SD. If you are a full timer you now you need a domicile address and a mailing address for many things, this is how we do it. They have over 17,000 subscribers to their mail forwarding service, we are one of them. We stopped by this July to get our domicile done, vehicle registration, drivers license, voter registration etc. It was hot we will not come back in July again.

The campground is split into 2 main areas. They have a lot of deeded lots for you to buy which has houses, motor homes, park trailer or just roof for your RV. They have long term areas, overnighter, short long term, weekly or daily. You do not need to be a member of the Escapees to camp here, but we hear in the winter it does get full.

Camping full hook ups, electric and water, or just dry camping. They have just got some new internet on the area we were camping in and it was good enough to stream. They have a pool, clb house, activity center, 2 laundries, meeting rooms and a lot to do even in the summer. Most site are fairly level most gravel but do have some concrete pads. If it wasn't so hot I am sure we would have enjoyed it even more. One nice thing is they have a care center, areas that you can set up your RV and if you have something wrong with you they will help you out, take you to Drs, provide meals, help you. This is nice for us older folks that we worry about what happens if we need long stay for treatments and we have no home base.

    South Main RV Park

Good for proximity to NRG stadium

My husband and I came to the Houston rodeo and stayed here strictly for proximity to the stadium. The RV park did have a shuttle which was very nice to get us to and from. Most sites are large enough for big rigs, you do have to park on the gravel right in front of your rig which can be tight. Nice concrete pads at each site. Traffic can be loud and there are many full-time set ups here with permanent residents. Has a gate with a code so it did feel safe at night. Small dog park that could use some extra TLC. Laundry on premises, no play ground, good wifi and Verizon service.

    Stagecoach RV Park

Clean, well kept and friendly host.

This is more like a mobile home park for RV’s than a camping experience. Each space is a pull through that has a picnic table and full hookups including sewer. Most sites have trees. Most spaces are occupied by long term tenants as evidenced by skirting around the rigs. Evidently several children live here as well. There is a dedicated area to take dogs so they can do their business.
Quite a few speed bumps. No gates so anyone can enter/exit at will. Laundry room and bathrooms have locks. Bathrooms are clean and free hot water. Pool/hot tub were closed. I stayed 3 nights in April. It felt safe, so I’d stay here again. People said hello when walking and waved when they drove by.

Worst thing was the number of speed bumps…useful but not really RV friendly. I’ve added photos, and although I copied them from another source, they are valid photos of what I saw and experienced.

Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground

    Pleasant Texas State Park

We had a really nice relaxing stay at Stephen F Austin State Park near San Filepe, Texas. Great little state park easily accessed from I-10. The 38 RV sites are all asphalt pad pull throughs with 30/15 amp electric, water and sewer complete with concrete pad for table, fire pit, lantern and all well spaced for plenty of privacy...big rig friendly. They have an additional 39 tent only sites with water and 25 primitive. Screened shelters are reservable for tent camping with 20 amp electric and water plus one rustic cabin with amenities. There is a$5 daily entrance fee in addition to camping fees. The bathhouse facilities are brand new. It's a small park but they do have five miles of trails for hiking/biking with views of the Brazos River. We enjoyed the wildlife; deer strolling in the campground every morning and evening, birds, rabbits, frogs, turtles, a bobcat and numerous owls. They have a Nature Center; however it was not open during our visit. The park office has a small store with sundries and park souvenirs. The nearby San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site tells the story of early settlers to Texas and is worth a visit. We made a run to the nearby town of Sealy to do a much needed laundry stop...small community with grocery, dining and fuel to meet most needs. Southlake RV Resort

    Nice clean park

The park is VERY clean and also quiet! It’s close to everything so thats a major plus. However it does have A LOT of rules. Also, a lot of long term residents live here. The back in spots are a little tight so if you’re not great at backing in just get a pull through. The facilities are immaculate . It’s been worth the price so far.

    Rayford Crossing RV Resort

    Well Managed and Manicured

We had to return our travel trailer to the dealership for some warranty work and wanted to have one last little getaway before handing it over. We opted to stay somewhere in the vicinity of the dealership, and this campground had an opening. So, we booked one of the last remaining sites and hit the road!

Located in a suburban area north of Houston, the campground was very easy to find. It was nestled among nice suburban homes but still close to the amenities of a suburban city. We arrived after the employees left the front desk, so they instructed us to pick up our materials at the front office. We immediately noticed how well maintained this campground was. We easily found Site 21, a standard back in site. The sites are all concrete and level with a yard of grass and full hookups, which we really appreciate. We were surprised that our site didn’t have a picnic table like we thought, but we probably could have called to request one (wasn’t a huge issue in this July Texas heat).

This campground is more like a residential area. We noticed that many vehicles were gone early on a weekday morning. Many of the “campers” had potted plants and other items that indicated they were long-term occupants. There were many rules for the campground such as no items allowed on the grass or under RVs and no trash cans at sites, but none of these were unreasonable. Staff was visible throughout the day, often maintaining the grounds and collecting trash at each site (trash collection is each morning). It was extremely quiet, clean, and manicured.

Would we visit this campground again? Yes, if we plan to visit the Houston area for business in the future. We prefer the forest and the solitude that it affords, but this is a nice place to stay if you have business in the area. Rayford Crossing has amenities that may appeal to families with children such as a playground, beautiful pool, hot tub, shuffleboard, horse shoes, and fishing. The nice paved roads and sites and the dog park were nice as well. Our only complaints would be the price and lack of privacy, but I guess that’s to be expected in an RV resort near a major US city like Houston. Basically, it served our purpose.

    Jetstream RV Resort at Waller

    Great RV park!

We stayed here for about 5 weeks and loved our stay! Lots of great amenities and awesome staff! Friendly neighbors and a lot of full timers so not a lot of traffic or noise. The park was clean with full hookups, wide roads and level concrete pads. Pet friendly- our two doggos loved the dog wash station! Highly recommend!

Guide to Conroe

Lake Conroe camping offers year-round outdoor recreation opportunities with warm summers and mild winters. The 21,000-acre reservoir sits at 201 feet elevation in southeast Texas, with humidity levels typically ranging from 60-80% throughout camping season. Most campgrounds maintain open status during winter months when temperatures rarely drop below freezing.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Thousand Trails Lake Conroe provides access to boat rentals, a boat launch with ample parking, and shoreline access. "The campground is well laid out. Easy access to sites, amenities and the Lake. Although its a small portion of the lake on the campgrounds side, you do have access to boat rentals, a boat launch and plenty of parking," notes Robert M.

Water recreation: Lake activities peak during summer at Triple-B RV Park - Lakeside, which offers kayaking and a small beach area. "This is a cute little park with 30 some spots. There is a small beach and pavilion area which is perfect for small get togethers. The owners offer corn hole and kayaks to borrow," writes Steph H.

Playground access: Families staying near Conroe can utilize play areas at multiple campgrounds. "Gorgeous campground with a large lake and two ponds, a pool, putt putt, & tons of activities for kids!" explains Nick & Allyssa S. about their experience at Thousand Trails Lake Conroe.

What campers like

Pool facilities: Northlake RV Resort maintains resort-style swimming options. "Beautiful facilities including main building with laundry, bathrooms, and community area. Pool, hot tub, fishing pond, propane, place to wash your dog, and dog walk," according to TK n E.

Concrete pads: Forest Retreat RV Park offers level, solid parking surfaces. "Excellent park; large concrete level sites. Grounds/pool area are well kept; one of the cleanest park grounds I have seen as of late," reports Mindy G.

Site spacing: Site dimensions vary significantly between campgrounds. "Extremely nice RV park with large spaces and gravel parking area. Spaces are wide and have a picnic table on a concrete pad. Electric and water is separated," says Tony C. about Woodland Lakes RV Park.

What you should know

Reservation systems: Some campgrounds don't assign specific sites in advance. "The campground is huge, and you cannot reserve a specific site. You drive around and pick a site, then call and let them know which one you're in," explains Debbie J. about Thousand Trails Lake Conroe.

Wi-Fi availability: Internet access varies by location and sometimes requires additional payment. "I booked this site because it shows wifi as an amenity. However, the wifi is a pay-by-the-day only offer," notes Russell E. about his stay at Thousand Trails.

Road conditions: Royal Palms RV Resort maintains paved interior roads, while other properties may need maintenance. "The all-concrete roads and spacious pads make parking a breeze, and the beautifully maintained grounds create a peaceful, resort-like atmosphere," writes Brittany B.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Consider campgrounds with dedicated children's areas when selecting rv sites near Conroe, Texas. "Great family atmosphere and amenities, well kept and friendly staff. Working on expanding in 2020," shares Michael J. about Thousand Trails Lake Conroe.

Playground access: Multiple rv parks near Conroe maintain play equipment for younger campers. "We enjoyed our time here in our full hookup site, but the campground was just too busy for our taste. There were vehicles constantly driving up and down the road in front of our site, and lots of children running around," notes Debbie J., suggesting families with children will find plenty of playmates.

Noise levels: 7 Bridges Luxury RV Resort operates as an adults-only facility for those seeking quieter settings. "This campground is very peaceful and relaxing. Very clean all around. This is NOT a clothing optional or swinger park. It IS an adult only and NO KIDS park," explains Greg S.

Tips from RVers

Site accessibility: Verify RV length limitations before booking. "Site 55 is NOT for RVs over 36 feet. We have a 42 ft fifth wheel and it was horrible trying to get into the spot," warns Deb J. about 7 Bridges Luxury RV Resort.

Electrical connections: Some RV parks separate water and electrical hookups. "Electric and water is separated, I hate it when water is on the electrical box! Internet speed is really good and they have cable TV hookups," notes Tony C. about his Woodland Lakes experience.

Site selection assistance: When choosing rv sites near Conroe, Texas, ask staff for recommendations. "We arrived shortly after checkin and had limited selection of sites. The person at checkin did have a good site recommendation. Beware that not all sites have full hookups," advises Karen B.
