Tanbark Campground

About half a mile off the interstate, Tanbark Campground sits in rolling Tennessee hill country outside Dickson, accessible via a winding entry road that multiple reviewers have flagged as worth noting. Payment is cash or check only, reservations are available, and the campground accepts pets. Veterans and other qualifying guests receive discounts, and rates run low enough that full hookup pull-through sites with 30/50-amp service have drawn repeat visitors on Passport America pricing.

Sites vary between gravel and asphalt surfaces, and the campground has a mix of overnight travelers and long-term residents. The tighter spaces tend to be occupied by full-timers, while transient sites give most RV rigs adequate room. One reviewer fit a 36-foot fifth wheel with three slideouts, a cargo carrier, and two vehicles without unhooking. Road noise from the nearby interstate is lower than the proximity suggests, particularly with windows closed. Bathrooms are older but consistently described as clean, with hot showers available. No picnic tables or fire pits appear at every site, and tent campers should confirm water spigot access when booking.

Cell service gets a couple of mentions in reviews without strong consensus, so campers relying on connectivity may want to check coverage maps in advance. WiFi is listed as an amenity on-site. "Bathrooms old but clean," notes Cliff H., which captures the general condition of the facilities fairly well. Campers who want a more nature-focused stay might consider Piney River Escape Campground a few miles to the southeast.

No tent sites, really

This was a lovely r v park with a nice bathroom. Only thing was on the website. It said that they permit tent camping. I appreciate. That they allowed me to book same day but The place they put me didn't have a picnic table.Or a water spigot. The price was right however.

Very Nice Overnight Stay

We stayed one night. It was very nice. Cash or check only. Veteran and other discounts. Inexpensive. Check in after 12:00 Check out 11:00. Pull through full hookup 30/50A service. Fast friendly check in. Some sites gravel, some asphalt. Older building for restrooms and laundry, but meticulously maintained. Level enough that I didn't unhook, just lowered jacks for stabilization. I don't see where the complaints about space come from. All of the tight spaces are taken by full time residents. We had more than enough room for a 36' 5th wheel with 3 slideouts, a cargo carrier on the back, tow vehicle (which I didn't have to unhook) and a second vehicle. We could have fit another car if needed. The person behind us parked his truck between his rig and ours. In front was a fire ring on a 12' wide patch of grass. There are full time residents here, but most of the rigs look a lot nicer than other places we've seen. Beautiful area. Was surprised how low the road noise is being so close to an interstate. We wouldn't even hear it if our door was shut. Very quiet. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for recognizing veterans and offering a discount.

Small campground and not far from the 40.

Far enough from the 40 you can sleep without the constant highway noise.

Full hook up's however the elbow for the tank won't attach. 30/50 Amp and water.

Pull through site

Seems quite but we are staying mid week.

Passport America has 3 day limit can extend for a little bit more per day.

Owner very nice and hospitable

Okay for a night

Nice folks at the desk. An older campground showing its age a bit. 30 Amp shore power. Wifi. water. Sites pretty much closely stacked. Bathrooms old but clean. Contained soap at the sink but no hand towels. Good hot shower. No picnic table or fire pit at site. Works fine as a place to spend the night. Cheap.

Awesome Spot!!

I pulled in really late to tent camp. Richard, the owner came down and checked me in. Such a chill spot to set up for the night. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a spot to rest for the night. Not real sure how many tent sites he has but the one I am at right now is super close to the showers and the main office which is cool for a couple reasons. Convenience and safety! Check this place out for sure!

An affordable place to stop

We stopped here for the night and enjoyed our stay. This is more of an RV park for long term locals. The surrounding country side is pretty and there is a property with a horse close that my daughter enjoyed.

Country living

1/2 mile off the highway. Hidden with nice rollong hills going back to campground. Its older and somewhat shows its age but you cant beat the price. Passport America was $17 for full hookup.

Pull thru sites. Bathroms were clean and close. There are some fulltime campers but for the price you cant complain.

Owner was super friendly. We will be back if in the area.

Good spot to catch some zzzzs

I stayed here in spring 2017. The owner was very friendly as was everyone I met. The facilities were well cared for and there are some nice hiking paths nearby. I only stayed 1 night as I was passing through but I would highly recommend.
