The staff is great, all public areas are clean and organized. The facilities are nice, but you might want to look at your site first if you can. There are some places that big rigs will not fit into, and some you won't be able to get to. Some of the sites, the picnic table, fire pit, and grill…
No low cars! Don't expect much but multiple sites are cleared. Some with picnic tables.
We are currently camping for 5 nights here. Booked our campsite a day in advance; I think we got lucky with a cancellation. We are here during a lot of rain from Ida but it's so beautiful and peaceful.
On a non rainy day, we did 5 hikes to explore the mountain. On a rainy day, we went to Miller…
This is a really chill spot near Boone. We stayed in one of the tipis, and it was an awesome glamping experience
The bathrooms were clean.
Everyone staying here was really nice and chill. It feels a little hippie which is neat.
If you’re pulling a camper, the road would be a little rough, but…
Pros: Free, many sites with water access for kayaking/fishing, fire rings, parking lot close to sites. Cons: Lots of road noise-- you're sitting in a valley bordered by highway on 3 sides, and the echo is serious. Trash everywhere making some sites unusable. Lots of poison ivy.
So, if it's worth…

RMSP is a beautiful state park. The campground is relatively remote. Many of the sites are on a hill, which can make backing in a trailer a challenge. The sites are mostly shaded. Bathrooms are clean, and hot showers are free.
We were unable to make it up in our car. Roads were very rough and dangerous. We passed several jeeps before one drug addict told us we could make it the road was washed out and we would need a 4x4. After further inquire we learned there was not a campground at all but a local spot to go mudding…
This place was amazing! We went at a time they were not even charging campers to stay. Me and my son got to enjoy a week of camping after each days work in the area. So good!
Nice, very clean campground. Spaces are close, but overall our family really liked Flintlock. The beautiful creek that runs through it was a real treat. The kids loved climbing the huge rocks and exploring. The bathhouse is the cleanest one I’ve seen at any campground! We’ll definitely be visiting…
It was very packed lots of people. Seemed very beautiful except the only spot we found was on a hill and it was very rocky but it was good enough for the night.
Nice, clean campground. Used the primitive camping, everything was well taken care of. The rangers are informative and friendly. The employees, the same. Real nice place to stay.
Quaint park tucked away in the hills of VA in Big Stone Gap next to South Fork Powell River. Although our site is right on top of our neighbor, that is NOT the norm. Sites are spaced out with some full-timers, part-timers and vacationers. The owner allowed us to choose our site, and after having…

Nice spot to pitch a tent or for car camping. Whitetop mountain has some of the best views in VA and is very popular for watching sunsets.
We camped here while learning g to roast coffee and it was incredible. It was early November and the colors were incredible. I think we missed peak colors by a week or so. The next week it dumped snow. I hate we missed that!
