Observation Knob Park

Anglers and boaters find direct lake access at Observation Knob Park, a Tennessee Valley Authority campground positioned along the shoreline in Shady Valley. The facility accommodates both RVs and tent campers with electric and water hookups at spacious sites, though Eleanor the Airstream R. notes that "there are no breakers on the electric hook up at the site" and recommends bringing a surge protector.

The campground spreads across hilly terrain with varying levels of tree coverage. Many sites allow campers to tie boats directly at their location, while a boat ramp provides additional lake access for fishing and swimming. Two pump-out stations serve the campground, though several reviewers mention that sites lack individual septic connections. The beach area works well for group activities, and the layout includes multiple drives that create walking routes throughout the property.

Site conditions vary considerably across the park. Some spots require additional blocking due to uneven ground, and campers report that sites sit fairly close together. Restrooms and shower facilities are distributed in sections throughout the grounds. The campground attracts both overnight and seasonal campers, with food trucks appearing during major holidays. For those exploring the broader region, campgrounds around Shady Valley offer additional options within the area's lake country.

3 week stay….

We do lots of walking, so this campground has many drives to walk. Takes no time at all to walk a mile plus without going the same drive. Many shaded sites, lots seem to be seasonal. Showers and restrooms are spaced apart for sections of grounds. Very hilly, some sites are unlevel, so additional blocking helps. Only 2 dump stations, but, there is a honey wagon service that quite close and very reasonably priced.

Great all around

Great for kids and dogs!! Spots are a little hard to find if you aren’t familiar, and there is no septic at each site, but other than that, it’s exactly what you’d expect. Long term and by night rentals. Food trucks on bigger holidays!

Waterfront camping

Large County campground with electric and water with two pump out stations. spacious, hilly sites with some tree coverage along lake with boat ramp and capacity to tie your boat up at your site.

Recommend a surge protector on your camper as there are no breakers on the electric hook up at the site (clustered elsewhere).

Stayed here for a National water dog competition and the beach area was perfect for our group.
