      Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

      4th Time Here

This is our number one favorite place to camp. We are from Knoxville, TN and if we are wanting to camp for the weekend but avoid the drive, this is where we come! Area 1 site 25 is our favorite and we are super excited to stay at 108 and 109 in the future. The campground is beautiful. Area 1 is shaded with plenty of trees around making it feel like you're in a little forest, and of course fall is wonderful. Some sites have sewer. I have T-mobile cell phone and I have 3 bars at 5g and my husband has xfinity and has 2 bars at 4G.

      Love this campground!

      Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

      Nice campground.

Level paved spot, partial shade (site 140), quiet, sites not too close together, cooler evenings than LA (lower AL). Nice staff. Not crowded.

      Davis Branch Campground

      River Sounds

6 back in campsites, right off a paved road, sites are 20 yards from river, fishing, peaceful, cooler than in town. Outhouse is clean and has TP. Not much traffic on the road, not many campers. There are several campgrounds in the same general area on the river. All are nice, we had our pick and chose Davis. No power, water, or dump but there's a store just down the road that has fishing gear, ice, firewood, drinks, and vices. Good spot in a cool location.

      Cades Cove Campground

      Very Nice

Great campsites, little closer together than what I like but still nice and shaded all paved. Have three dump stations that are very nice. Will definitely come back. Better have reservations, cause it does stay full.

      Conasauga River Camp

Closed Right Now (Seems great but the site is closed for road work)

Hopefully they open it up soon but we drove about an hour to get here just for it to be closed. The whole road seems to be closed for the time being for road work. I hope this helps someone!.

The 5-8 miles up to this area do seem a little sketchy but we were hoping the actually site would be nice and hopefully it will be after the work they are doing right now.

      Fort Mountain State Park Campground

      Love this place

Beautiful views from the trails. I went during the summer in July so it was on the busier side. There is a lake with a beach with boat and paddle board rentals. Seemed like a great spot to fish. Prepare for possibilities of bears as they were around. One night I must have not fully secured my bear box and a bear found my cooler. I tent camped on a pad where I can find some service (T-Mobile) but most spots are spotty. Next time I come, I want to try the back country locations. Trails are awesome with a cool story about the place around the tower and fortification. Attendants at the camp store were really nice. If groceries are needed there is grocery stores in the nearest town of Chatsworth down the mountain

      Ballyhoo Family Campground

      Rude money hungry owners

I was a visitor to this park. Doris has zero interest in being friendly or welcoming. The only signage that reads, you must visit their dirty little office and register, is what you see in the photos posted, partially hidden by tree branches as you approach. It was my third visit before I actually saw it and that’s only because it was pointed out by the person I was visiting. And they don’t care if you give them your info, doesn’t even ask,  just demands your $5. After the owner Doris  read a Google review left by another person  that was treated poorly by her, she assumed it was left by me for spite and kicked my friend that stayed there out.  Had she bothered to actually take my info instead of my money she would have realized I wasn’t the one that left her a bad review, but another visitor leaving an unsatisfactory review perpetuated by her rudeness.. if you value your peace and want your visitors to feel welcome, please choose another place to give your hard earned money to.

      Cherohala Mountain Trails Campground

      Great time, greater breakfast!

We had an awesome stay! Our family used a mix of a cabin and a tent, which worked out perfectly—it gave us a great option to get some AC while still letting the kids get the real tent-camping experience. We absolutely loved the French toast, and the bathroom and shower facilities were convenient. We really enjoyed our time and all the amenities. Thanks for a great stay!

      Chattanooga North-Cleveland KOA

      Great Overnight Stop Near Chattanooga

We followed the confirmation email directions, which took us right to the campground. Check-in was quick, efficient, and exceptionally friendly. We were escorted to back-in Site 55, which was an easy back-in and one of the more spacious sites in the campground. We were glad we chose this site over one of the pull-throughs, which appeared much closer together. The long gravel pad easily accommodated our 40-foot fifth wheel and F-450, with well-positioned utilities. Since we were only overnighting, we did not disconnect. We received two bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile. The campground Wi-Fi was adequate for checking email and general browsing but not streaming. There are plenty of mature trees throughout the campground, so Starlink availability will vary by site. We chose not to deploy ours but believe Site 55 would have provided a usable view of the sky. The campground also features a fenced dog park that is large enough to actually throw a ball and let your dog run. Overall, this is a clean, well-maintained KOA with friendly staff, spacious back-in sites, and a convenient location, and it will definitely remain on our list of campgrounds for future visits to the Chattanooga area.

    Guide to Etowah

Camping options near Etowah, Tennessee range from established campgrounds to rustic forest service sites across the Cherokee National Forest region. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains at approximately 850 feet elevation, the area experiences mild springs and falls with summer temperatures averaging 85-90°F during peak camping season. Winter camping can face occasional freezing temperatures, particularly at higher elevations along the Cherohala Skyway.

    What to do

Waterfall hiking: 3 miles round trip. The Benton Falls trail at Chilhowee Recreation Area offers a moderate hike suitable for most skill levels. "The trails are what really makes this an all around great campground. Several hikes for all levels. We did the Benton Falls hike and it was lovely! 3 miles RT," notes Tracy J.

Lake activities: Morning fishing best. The swimming beach at Indian Boundary has designated areas for families. "There's a lake with a sandy area, and a beautiful mountain range to enjoy. It's my favorite camping spot!" shares Alison B. The water is calmer before 11am for fishing, as water releases increase current after mid-morning.

River rafting: Class III-V rapids. The Olympic whitewater course on the Ocoee River is accessible from campgrounds near Tellico Plains. "We did the Classic Middle Ocoee Rafting Adventure, with Leon as our guide. He was awesome! He wore a Viking helmet and had vast knowledge of the river," reports Lori H. from Adventures Unlimited Campground.

    What campers like

Shower facilities: Hot water available. Campers appreciate the well-maintained bathhouses at campgrounds in the region. "The showers were clean, hot and great water pressure. Also, there was a restroom for every 6-7 sites, so not too much traffic," mentions Manie D. about facilities at Chilhowee Recreation Area.

Yurt camping: Solar power available. For those seeking yurt camping near Etowah, Tennessee, alternatives include glamping structures at several campgrounds. "We stayed in one of their cabins. We were on motorcycles. Couldn't have asked for better!!" explains Greg W. about Smitty's Lodge Motorcycle Campground.

Fire rings with grates: Free firewood at some sites. Many campgrounds provide cooking equipment with fire rings. "Fire pits with cooking grates, lantern posts and picnic tables were clean and well kept," notes Tracy J. Some sites even include free firewood for campers.

    What you should know

Cell service: Very limited coverage. Most campgrounds have spotty or no service. "There is no WiFi or AT&T cellular signal in this park. However, if you drive to any of the scenic overlooks just outside the park, you will get AT&T LTE signal," advises Manie D. Verizon typically has better coverage throughout the region.

Road conditions: Narrow mountain access. Many campgrounds require navigating steep switchbacks. "To get to this campground you have to go up a steep narrow windy mountain road," warns Carissa D. GPS directions often route travelers incorrectly, so follow official campground directions.

Seasonal operations: Most closed November-March. Cades Cove Campground and others operate seasonally. "We camped here in November and didn't have a problem getting a site, but the place did fill up!" reports Buck R. Late fall offers changing leaves while avoiding summer crowds.

    Tips for camping with families

Wildlife viewing: Early morning best. Cades Cove offers excellent wildlife spotting opportunities for children. "I have never seen more black bear. It was a very safe distance we watched them about a football field away across a field pretty amazing experience," shares Ashley Y. Visit at dawn or dusk for best viewing.

Swimming options: Designated beach areas. Several campgrounds feature kid-friendly swimming. "We even took a dip at the swimming area just a short drive from the campsite and loved that too!" reports Emerald M. from Chilhowee.

Bathroom proximity: Choose sites strategically. Families with young children should select sites near facilities. "We stayed at site #39. Next to the trail that leads to the lake. Next to rest room, trash bin, and water spout," recommends Heather W.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup limitations: Water fill stations. Many campgrounds lack full hookups. "The RV sites do not have water hook-ups at each site. There is a water hook up to fill your tank as you enter the campsite area. Fill your tank and you are good to go," advises Nathan G. about Sweetwater KOA.

Site selection: Consider pad material. Camper pads vary in material and levelness. "Camper pads are crushed rock, which I think helps them to dry quickly, but did produce a LOT of mess going in and out of the camper," notes Manie D.

Dump station access: Limited availability. Most campgrounds have single dump stations with sometimes challenging access. "There is only one dump station and it's on the other side of the campground. From the B loop, you have to traverse about a 120 degree switchback to get to it," cautions Mike N.
