Union Grove (Union County) State Park

Ponca State Park offers Electric Plus, Electric and Basic camping. Turkey Ridge campground has 35 Electric Plus campsites that are first-come, first-served. Oak Bluff campground has 37 Electric Plus sites that reservable up to a year in advance. Riverfront Campground has 20 first-come, first-served campsites. Basic campsites are available for those that don’t need electricity. Basic campsites are first-come, first-served. Ponca State Park provides four group campsites perfect for scouting, or other group functions. Campgrounds include modern restrooms, showers, picnic tables, fire pits, nearby water spigots (not hookups), a dump and fill station and playground. Camping is available year-round; however modern facilities operate from April-October, weather permitting.

Camping reservations are available up to one year in advance of arrival in the electrical campsites of Oak Bluff campground. All other camping is first-come, first-served. Campers in first-come, first served sites can pay for their stay at one of the four black/metal iron ranges located in Turkey Ridge campground near the shower house, outside the Resource and Education Center, in the Riverfront campground near the restroom, or along the park roadway by the pop machines. Check or cash when paying at an iron ranger or debit/credit card payments can be made at the park office located inside the Resource and Education Center. Park maps and other detailed information are located on the bulletin boards in the campgrounds and outside the Resource and Education Center.
Situated in the picturesque Missouri River bluffs in northeastern Nebraska, Ponca State Park is the eastern gateway to the 59-mile section of the Missouri National Recreational River, one of two picturesque, unchannelized stretches of the river bordering Nebraska.

One of Nebraska’s most visited state parks, Ponca State Park is popular for its forested hills, scenic vistas, great wildlife watching, Missouri river access and beautiful and varied lodging options. During the spring months, the wetlands at Ponca State Park are a popular layover spot for many migrating bird species, and the park draws many bird watchers. The park offers many seasonal activities, including guided bird tours during the spring, naturalist events and family activities during the summer, haunted hayrack rides complete with local actors and impressive props during the fall and its nationally famous Fruitcake Fling each winter. Comfortable lodging, unique events and sweeping views of the river have made Ponca state park a popular destination for all types of family gatherings, from family vacations to weddings.

Cottonwood recreation area is on a lush piece of land between the border of Nebraska and South Dakota. On one side is the smaller Lake Yankton and on the other, visitors will find the much larger, Lewis and Clark Lake--an impoundment of the Missouri River. Natural Features: Lewis and Clark Lake forms behind Gavins Point Dam, which was part of the Pick Sloan plan enacted in 1944. The lake is nestled in the golden, chalkstone-lined valley of the Missouri River, and has grown to become one of the most popular recreation areas in the Great Plains region. Recreation: Both land and water based recreational activities are abundant around the lakes. Facilities: All sites have electric hookups, and all sites are reservable. Other amenities include a playground, picnic shelter, shore fishing, showers, modern restrooms and a nearby boat ramp. Nearby Attractions: Enjoy the nearby Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, take of tour of Gavins Point Dam, or visit the Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery and Aquarium. Danish Alps offers Electric Plus, Electric, Basic and Equestrian Electric Plus campsites.

Danish Alps has 34 gravel pads with electrical hookups and two ADA cement pads with electrical hookups, as well as seven gravel pull-through pads with electrical hookups and one ADA cement pull-through pad with electrical hookups. Electrical campsites are both Electric Plus and Electric campsites. Additionally, Danish Alps offers an equestrian campground with 26 gravel pads that are Electric Plus and three ADA-accessible cement pads with electrical hookups. There are also 22 Basic camping sites. Campers have access to water, modern restrooms and showers.

Camping reservations are available for half of the electrical campsites. All other camping is all first-come, first-served campers register their nightly camping fees in a raised, locked box called an Iron Ranger. Self-service envelopes are provided at each Iron Ranger station. Check or cash only. Iron Rangers are generally located near the park entrance or in the campground area. On-site camping informational signs are provided to help guide campers with the self-registration process.

An equestrian campground offers 14 horse corrals, hitching posts and water. A scenic horse trail encircles most of the lake.

Newton Hills State Park's unique dark forest, amidst a vast open prairie, has prompted many legends, including buried gold, robbers' hideouts and horse thieves. But visitors today recognize it as a great place to camp, swim, hike and fish. The park also plays host to folk music concerts and the popular FestiFall in October. The Newton Hills Lodge, built in 1915, served as the historic caretaker's home in Canton, SD, and played an important role in serving the healthcare needs of a variety of patients before being opened to guests. It can sleep up to 12 people and has four bedrooms and two baths. Like the lodge, camping cabins are open year-round. Each cabin accommodates 4 people with a set of bunk beds and a double bed. Both RV and tent sites are available, as well as horse camp sites. A boat ramp, beach and fishing dock let you enjoy water activities at Newton Hills State Park.
