The Home Depot — Charleston

This Home Depot parking lot provides overnight camping access via Rivers Avenue, with level asphalt surfaces and strong lighting throughout the night. Located in North Charleston's commercial corridor, campers encounter steady traffic noise during evening hours that typically subsides overnight. The wide lot accommodates larger RVs, though the bright security lighting may challenge light sleepers.

One reviewer noted police activity during their visit, prompting them to relocate to the nearby Walmart — North Charleston Supercenter instead. The location offers quick highway access and proximity to fuel stations and restaurants, including local spots like Nigel's Good Food. Plan for a commercial environment with transient activity rather than a quiet camping experience.

Not Fancy, Just Functional

Tucked along the busy Rivers Avenue corridor in North Charleston, this Home Depot offers a very straightforward overnight option with quick access from I-26, a wide and mostly level parking lot with very strong night lighting that made pulling in with tired kids feel manageable and secure, albeit incredibly bright. The area is undeniably commercial, with steady traffic noise early in the evening, but it quieted down enough overnight to feel workable, and nearby conveniences like fuel stations, fast-casual eateries, and big-box stores added to the sense that you were exactly where you needed to be for a simple stopover. When we rolled up, there were 2 cop cars surrounding a vehicle, so because of the commotion, we chose to move elsewhere. Before finding another spot to anchor up for the night, we stopped by Nigel’s Good Food just down the road, where the boys happily demolished cornbread and mac & cheese before we headed over to the nearby Walmart. While this isn’t a cozy or scenic spot and wouldn’t be my first pick for light sleepers, it is a solid place to lay-up overnight thanks to EZ highway access, dependable lighting and nearby food that makes the whole stop feel less stressful and more intentional, but you should be prepared for the highly transient nature of this area and the occasional police stopbys.
