Mountain Top Campground near Tarentum provides year-round RV parking with full hookup options. Sites feature level gravel lots with wood borders and grass areas, offering 30 and 50 amp electric service, water connections, and accommodations for big rigs. Bear Run Campground in Portersville contains 300 sites open from April to October with electric, water, and sewer hookups suitable for large motorhomes and travel trailers. Sites throughout the region typically include fire rings and picnic tables, with varying degrees of shade and separation between neighboring RVs. Most campgrounds maintain paved parking areas for tow vehicles. "This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat," noted one camper about Bear Run.

Seasonal availability varies significantly among RV parks in western Pennsylvania. Several campgrounds within 40 miles of Ford Cliff operate from spring through fall, while others like Mountain Top and Pine Cove Beach Club remain open throughout winter. Navigation to some parks requires careful route planning. A review mentioned: "The road my GPS brought me in was a little tight, but manageable. There was a better route but it did have a very short bridge with a 10 ton weight limit, so be sure to really check your route." Most RV parks in the region offer dump stations, though some sites provide sewer hookups or honey wagon service for extended stays. Cell service fluctuates, with Verizon reception typically better at ridge-top locations. Pets are generally permitted at private campgrounds, with dedicated pet-friendly sections at some state parks.

      Rustic Acres

This is our second time staying here. Each time in October. We love it. Unlike most RV resorts this place is small and wooded. Has free Wi-Fi, clean bathrooms and an awesome community hub room for work from home or playing games. The weekends are busy but during the week it’s so quiet and peaceful. Close to so many attractions and parks that are part of the PA Wilds. Would definitely recommend.

      Keystone State Park Campground

      Decent place

Stayed the weekend for the first time and it wasn’t bad! There were kids playing at sites nearby but that was all the noise, highway noise at all! I like how they have a spot for your tent with a picnic table and fire ring. I was in my rooftop tent on my truck so I wish the parking spot went back a little deeper for a little more privacy. But it was nice that there was bathrooms and showers within a 1 minute walk from the site! Also it says on here there is no AT&T signal, that’s not true…it’s not great but there is a bar or 2 at times!

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      beautifull park BUT!!!!

The park is beautiful, unlevel shade sites; is challenging to get the trailer level.  unfortunately, the bathhouses are neglected, dark and full of mildew inside the showers.  The park really needs to upgrade the bathhouses. The park itself is very nice and offers a lot of opportunities for outdoor exploration and hiking.

      Crawford's Camping Park

      Nice little campground.

This is more a campground for RVs then tents or even roof top tents. Place is clean and the sites 90% of them are in the open. Very little shade. Travis runs the place and very nice and accommodating. Fire wood is 20 dollars for a massive amount.

      Lazy Acres Campground

      DO NOT BRING KIDS HERE

Advertised as a family camp but very far from it. I’ve watched this camp progressively get worse as the years go on, over priced camp with zero efforts to make anything worthwhile, run down play grounds, broken toilet paper roll holders in the bathrooms of the shower house, roads that make you feel like your off road. Owner plans “events” and then wants campers to pay for overpriced food. The owner complains nobody comes to events anymore but barely comes to them herself. The owner is VERY money hungry! And most importantly it’s home to a sex offender who the owner cherishes dearly.

It’s a shame to see how many people realized how terrible this camp was and are selling their camps because of it. The owner should open her eyes and realize she’s the reason people don’t want to be there anymore !!!

    Guide to Ford Cliff

Private RV campgrounds near Ford Cliff, Pennsylvania offer varying seasons of operation with open dates from April through October at some locations, while others remain accessible year-round. The region sits in the Allegheny Plateau at elevations between 800-1,300 feet, creating camping conditions that can include morning fog in valleys and clearer weather at ridge-top sites. Cell service quality varies significantly depending on campground location and carrier.

    What to do

Explore nearby waterways: At Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing, campers can float down the creek that runs alongside many sites. "The creek was close and neighbors were great," notes a visitor who enjoyed the water access despite mentioning "extra costs" as their only negative.

Visit local attractions: RV camping near Ford Cliff provides access to regional destinations within 30-45 minutes. "Close by is Ligonier, Idlewild, and St. Vincent (where the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp takes place)," reports a camper who stayed at Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing.

Participate in scheduled activities: Family programs occur at several campgrounds, particularly during summer months. A visitor at Rustic Acres RV Resort Campground shared that "our children enjoyed the Saturday kids program, crafts, snacks and games with other children."

    What campers like

Community atmosphere: Campers appreciate the friendly environment at many parks. "I can't remember when we were at a campground where everyone said hi and waved to each other," noted a visitor at Rustic Acres RV Resort Campground who rated their stay 5 stars.

Scenic views: The elevated position of Mountain Top Campground creates memorable vistas. "It actually does really sit at the mountain top and gives you pretty good views of the valleys and surrounding areas from any of the rim campsites," observed a camper who visited with young children.

Clean facilities: Several campgrounds maintain well-kept amenities. At Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort, a visitor highlighted the "beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites, modern hookups, good shower/laundry facilities, nice fire rings with built in grills, trash pickup service."

    What you should know

Hookup distances: At some campgrounds, utility connections can require extra equipment. A camper at Mountain Top noted "grey water hookup is a long hose that has an adapter which hooks up to your black and grey tank outlet and it runs down the hillside of the mountain into the grassy area."

Site selection matters: Choosing the right site can impact your experience. "We plan to return but our only complaint would be the site we were in (11) and others next to it were quite far from the water and cable hookups. I ended up having to run 60ft of water hose and 50ft of cable," reported a visitor to Kalyumet Campground.

Reservation systems vary: Not all parks offer online booking. A camper at Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort mentioned among their "room for improvement" comments that there are "No online reservations, bathrooms weren't cleaned daily."

    Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: Multiple campgrounds feature swimming pools that appeal to families. At Kalyumet Campground, a visitor noted, "We really enjoy this campground. Not far from the River and has a number of things for the kids to do at the campground. It has a really nice pool and playground for the kids."

Children's programming: Scheduled activities for younger campers occur at select locations. "Our children had a ball making crafts, playing games, finding items on a scavenger hunt and of course snacks!" shared a family that visited Rustic Acres RV Resort Campground.

Open spaces: Some campgrounds provide large common areas for recreation. A visitor to Mountain Top Campground mentioned, "They do however have a very very large open field right smack dab in the middle of the campground for any kind of activities you can come up with if you brought those activities with you (i.e. soccer, kite flying, baseball, etc..)."

    Tips from RVers

Access routes: RV drivers should research approach roads before arrival. "The hardest part is finding it. The roads get narrow so if in an RV call them for the easiest route," advised an RVer who stayed at Mountain Top Campground.

Water management: Plan for different sewer arrangements across campgrounds. A camper at The Blue Canoe RV Resort observed, "Staff make multiple rounds, picks up your trash and delivers your purchased firewood. Personally takes you to your site and helps you back in/pull in."

Site leveling: Ground conditions vary between campgrounds. Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort offers "level gravel lots with wood borders and grass areas as well," according to a reviewer who appreciated the 50 amp service availability.
