    Overview

Half of Forest County, where Tionesta Lake is located, is preserved as public lands. The region is known as one of Pennsylvania's best big game regions and is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife. Campers come to the Tionesta Recreation Area Campground to enjoy the forested area just below the Tionesta Dam. The area is ideal for fishing as well as scenic hiking. Tionesta is a culturally rich region with a long history. The Seneca Indian tribe named this area "where the water separates the land." Nearly a century ago, narrow gauge railways dotted the surrounding countryside, hauling out virgin timber from the hillsides.

    Recreation

In-season hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and water skiing, are all available from Tionesta. Visitors interested in wildlife viewing are likely to spot white-tailed deer, porcupine, wild turkey, osprey and opossum. Outside the campground entrance is a beach area for swimming and picnicking along Tionesta Creek. No lifeguards are on duty.

Tionesta Creek Road, which winds through the Tionesta Creek valley upstream of the dam, is an excellent scenic drive with spectacular views. The nearby Allegheny National Forest also makes a great day trip.

    Clear Creek State Park Campground

Camping right on the River with nice trails.

First time staying at Clear Creek State Park and had a spot just below where the Creek empties into the River.  We were able to turn the RV so the door/awning faced the River.  We saw a two different Merganser mamas with young, a green heron fishing, and a bald eagle go up the River.  We were right across from the showerhouse but noise was minimal.  Our dog had the riverbank to explore on her camp leash of course.  Hiking above the campground was very nice and we did an easy loop of almost 6 miles.  Mountain Laurels were in bloom.  Very clean park.  Showerhouse was well-kept.  Bringing the kayaks next time.

Lots to do for the whole family

My wife and I stayed here in late September so it wasn't overly crowded. The camp sites were fairly spacious and level. There seemed to be water fill stations scattered around the campground for convenience. I was actually able to fill me fresh water tank from one near by. The campground is fairly large and we rode our bikes around quite a bit, including our to the campground store at the entrance. There were numerous playgrounds and activities for kids. They have full hookup sections, but most of the campground is electric only. All in all the best review I can give is to say that we would go back.

Great spot with a mix of established spots and dispersed sites

This is a great spot! We went mid October and it was packed, we got one of the last dispersed spots while all the established spots were taken by mid afternoon on Friday. Easy access to hiking trails right from camp. Not a ton of distance between sites but everyone around us was quiet and chill.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Labor Day weekend

Campground was clean and well maintained. Only issue we ran into was that the fire pit was not cleaned out after the last folks. It wasn’t a huge deal but there we had quite a bit of debris and wet ash to deal with. The wash houses scattered throughout are new and very clean. The one across from our site had 4 private bathrooms with a toilet and shower. Very well patrolled and tons of stuff to do within biking/running/driving distance.

    Minister Creek Campground

    Beautiful, peaceful

Established campground on north side has six sites with picnic tables and fire rings and costs $12/night. You can park and camp for free across the street but I’m not sure you’d want to sleep in your car/camper in the parking lot. There are a number of sites on the side of the road within 2-3 miles in either direction if you want to sleep in your van etc. I parked on the free side and set up a tent about 100 yards in. Lots of beautiful sites on the creek. I walked to the paid side for water and vault toilet. Arrived on a Friday in August and had no trouble grabbing a prime site.

Absolutely no cell signal. Drive about 7-10 miles in either direction to pick up a signal. Or hike to the Outlook for a very faint signal. Warren, PA is a really nice little town about 30 minutes drive and I went there for a meal and a brewery visit

    Great family site

Go every year for a father son backing trip for Memorial Day. There is a water tap and vaulted toilets. The best parts are just behind the main camping area. There is plenty of great dispersed sites passed the main camp ground.

    Underated Park and Campground

We stayed in site C6 one of the reservable sites. Every site has plenty of room. Campground overall is quiet. And most if not all of the full hookups are pull throughs. But seems many of the tent sites are on grades. Couple beautiful walk in tent sites right on the water. Plenty of nice hiking trails. Great beach for kids.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

Helpful Staff and a few waterside sites

Booked a one night stay a day ahead of time on Ohio State Park site with full hookup.  when we arrived the site had been given away by staff to move someone from a noisy area.  Gave us the choice of a couple of other electric only sites.  Found one right near the water and couldn't have been happier!  Site 222 was on a cul de sac right across from the water.  Site is probably under water in early year.  Had a Pileated woodpecker visit us within 10 yards.

Can't say how nice Wilma from the park office was.  She was very apologetic and at the end of our stay gave us a gift card to use for another stay.  Both Wilam and the camp host checked on us to make sure we were happy.

    Bring your kayaks and bikes.

    Should have been 5 star

First time ever at this campground. Site 11 is very nice. It was quiet, peaceful, and just great. Only reason for not 5 stars is the 3 dirt speed bumps with no signs. You hit them pulling a camper and it was horrible. Will definitely be back again but next time back in the woods more

    Cute spot but no privacy

This place is great if you want activities for the kids (Has a pool, arcade, etc) but if you want some privacy in the great outdoors this definitely isn’t the place (campsites are in open area extremely close to the cabins) It feels more like camping in a little neighborhood than at a campsite. That being said, we still enjoyed our stay. Staff was extremely friendly and there’s a cute mini golf/ice cream place down the road.

    Not very tent friendly

Lots of RVs, not many tents. Small section in the back of the campground for tents. Also the worst part is being so close to the gas station/truck stop. Very bright lights on all night. Also close to the highway so there is constant noise! Most likely won't return.

    Beautiful Park on the Water

This is a relatively small campground on the river. Many sites are shaded and the park and restrooms are very clean. Firewood is available at the campground. Hosts were very friendly. The one downfall is that the sites are fairly close which is quite noticable when louder young kids are nearby. If the sites were further apart this would be less of an issue. But overall great place. We spent alot of time hiking - nice hike to Beartown Rocks.
