Mountain Top Campground offers cabin accommodations with views from elevated sites overlooking surrounding valleys. The cabins provide essential amenities including electricity, sleeping surfaces, and access to shared restroom facilities. A review mentioned that "bathhouse was clean. Basic provisions can be purchased at on-site camp stores at Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA, though selection is limited. Showers and restrooms are typically centrally located rather than in individual cabins. Some campgrounds provide picnic tables at cabin sites, allowing for outdoor meals. Visitors should check specific amenity lists when booking as furnishing levels vary significantly between basic log cabins and more developed accommodations.

      Keystone State Park Campground

      Decent place

Stayed the weekend for the first time and it wasn’t bad! There were kids playing at sites nearby but that was all the noise, highway noise at all! I like how they have a spot for your tent with a picnic table and fire ring. I was in my rooftop tent on my truck so I wish the parking spot went back a little deeper for a little more privacy. But it was nice that there was bathrooms and showers within a 1 minute walk from the site! Also it says on here there is no AT&T signal, that’s not true…it’s not great but there is a bar or 2 at times!

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      beautifull park BUT!!!!

The park is beautiful, unlevel shade sites; is challenging to get the trailer level.  unfortunately, the bathhouses are neglected, dark and full of mildew inside the showers.  The park really needs to upgrade the bathhouses. The park itself is very nice and offers a lot of opportunities for outdoor exploration and hiking.

      Very Nice Visit

Spent three nights there in August Mid-week.  Was pretty quiet but was clean and nicely taken care  of.  No mosquitos or bugs at night.  Nice walking paths.  Pool, hot tub, outdoor showers all very nice.

Restrooms, showers and visitor center get an F

Stayed one night. Close to Fallingwater and Fort Necessity.  The campsite was terrible; close to water and buggy, steep grade required lots of blocking to level the camper and challenging to hook up to the vehicle. Thick canopy kept Starlink from working. The worst part was the bathrooms. The one closest to our spot had no hot water. So we had to walk about a half a mile to two other restrooms and showers within 100 yards of each other. Makes no sense. Anyway, both bathrooms were filthy, had paint peeling everywhere, lots of black mold growing on the ceilings, growing everywhere. No place to hang clothes while taking a shower. One of the two toilets in each of the men’s room was probably 3 feet off the ground. Made for giants I guess!  And good luck finding the visitor center. It’s hidden from view and parking is terrible.  You’ll have to walk 150 yards from the nearest point of the parking lot to find it. To walk there from the bus and RV parking, add an additional 1/4 mile each way. Be aware that the visitor center store does not accept credit cards. Cash or check only. Who does that? It’s 2026 Pennsylvania!

      Bear Run Campground

      Nice family campground

We love camping here. There are a few things to do, swim in the pool, mine for gem stones, they have an arcade and a playground. It’s in a wooded area near lake Arthur with a boat ramp down the Road.

Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park

      Pick the loop for you

I stayed at two sites at Ohiopyle and I’ll say it again—picking the loop that best fits your equipment is key to enjoying your camping experience here. Not all loops are created equal! My second, and heavy favorite, was my site on Ivy Road. The sites were had more privacy and most importantly, were far more level and easier to access. This loop/road is also more central to the rest of the campground, the dumpsters, and had access to much nicer (still a smidge dingy), larger bathrooms. The cell service here was also decent as this road is in a less hilly area within the campground.

While the park and town are excellent for exploring, I found that the highlight of my trip was Fallingwater—it’s a Frank Lloyd Wright house (personally, I think his best) that offers tours and I was shocked to find that it was less than 10 minutes away. If you need a break from hiking and the river, I cannot recommend it enough!

Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park

      Great, but…

My happiness with Ohiopyle SP started off rocky from the start due to two factors, which can also impact your stay:

      1. No matter what Google Maps tells you, try to avoid taking Sugarloaf Rd into the park—it’s a very steep dirt road that is not at all direct, despite popping you out in the middle of town (which was widely surreal as I landed in the middle of some kind of festival), but most importantly there is no cell service which is frustrating when you’re unexpectedly routed down backroads as night approaches

      2. which loop you stay in really matters, more so than many other parks I’ve stayed at. My first few nights were on Hickory road and many were small and wildly unleveled—I saw one individual give up trying to get his small RV backed in due to the site being a basin shape. So you truly need to do your research and find a site that fits your equipment. The bathroom in this leg was also small and dingy, to put it nicely, but serviceable. Personally, I would not stay in Hickory again.

That said, this is a beautiful park with phenomenal hiking and water adventures. The town (which is in the park) was also quaint and lovely, with a variety of food and shopping options.

    Guide to Oakmont

Camping cabins near Oakmont, Pennsylvania sit in the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania about 15 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Most cabins in this area are positioned at elevations between 1,000-1,400 feet, providing forest or valley views. The camping season typically runs April through October with some locations open year-round, and overnight temperatures can drop significantly in spring and fall.

    What to do

Hiking at McConnells Mill State Park: Located 30 miles northwest of Oakmont, paths range from easy to challenging with rocky terrain. "From our campsite we walked along the creek into McConnells Mill State Park and joined the covered bridge trail. Approx. 30min walk along the creek down into McConnells Mill State Park," noted a visitor at Breakneck Campground.

Fishing at Keystone State Park: The park's lake offers good fishing opportunities about 35 miles east of Oakmont. "Great place to spend the weekend... There's plenty to do in surrounding areas from Ft Ligonier to the shops in the town," writes a camper at Keystone State Park Campground.

Mountain biking near Moraine State Park: Trails for various skill levels wind through the area surrounding Bear Run Campground. A guest mentioned, "Every weekend there are activities, there is a heated pool and Friday night Bingo. A great place with even better people!"

    What campers like

Peaceful mountain settings: Many cabins sit on higher terrain with valley views. "You come up a winding road and emerge atop the mountain. It's cute. Wide open grass land with sites around the perimeter. Half a dozen of them (premium) are at the edge and have a nice view to the hills beyond," wrote a visitor at Mountain Top Campground.

Family-friendly atmospheres: Campgrounds organize regular activities for all ages. At Indian Brave Campground, a camper shared: "They have an Olympic sized swimming pool, nature trails, playground, basketball court, recreation hall and walking distance to harmony and all the live music and nightlife that Harmony and Zelienople have to offer."

Swimming options: Several campgrounds feature pools or lake access. "A great little beach area to lay out and enjoy the sun. The hiking trails are in excellent condition and the park keeps them clear of fallen debris," wrote a visitor about Raccoon Creek State Park.

    What you should know

Shower facilities vary significantly: Some campgrounds charge for showers or have limited hot water. At Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA, a visitor noted: "Nice campground with lots of sites. Sitting in a valley the site go up the hillside. Good amenities, pool and bathroom/showers."

Seasonal availability: Most cabin accommodations close between late October and early April. Smith Grove offers cabins with electric hookups from spring through fall.

Reservation requirements: Most locations require advance booking, particularly on summer weekends and holidays. At Raccoon Creek State Park Campground, a visitor advised: "We stayed in the tent loop at the back of the campground. The area is not wooded at all and most sites look right into the sites next to them. If you are like me and crave privacy, avoid."

    Tips for camping with families

Bring entertainment for kids: Some campgrounds lack dedicated playgrounds. "There is no playground or activities for children. I understand they have blue grass bands that come and play in the warmer weather and a large campsite fire, but since we were there at the beginning of Fall weather, there weren't any scheduled bands or fires."

Choose sites strategically: At Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA, a camper recommended: "If you HAVE KIDS young enough to have to keep an eye on the kabins and spots facing the pillow ARE PRIME (kids wait for it to blow up every morning), play ground, and pool all the activities are around there as well."

Check beach and swimming facilities: Water activities provide key entertainment for children. A camper at Ohiopyle State Park shared: "The park is gorgeous with a large lake and designated swimming area. Place attracts a lot of people in the summer as its basically in the Pittsburgh suburbs along a major road artery."

    Tips from RVers

Consider terrain challenges: Many campgrounds in this hilly region have uneven sites. "If you are Overlanding like us just follow the map. Great scenic routes and close to the spot you want to see in Pittsburgh," advised an RVer at Mountain Top Campground.

Verify hookup options: Water and electric connections vary between cabins and RV sites. "Sites 41-48 are the best view at sunset. I had a full hookup site. Spacing between spots was not cramped at all," noted a visitor about Mountain Top Campground.

Check access for larger vehicles: Some campground roads are narrow or steep. "The drive up was not worth it. You drive up a long, steep, windy road to the campgrounds," reported one RV camper at Raccoon Creek State Park.
