A good hike!

Hike in on the Caste Lake loop. You will need to look up trails starting from either Lolo Pass or fire road #27 off hwy 26.

Its a very beautiful, very secluded place right. Several campsites are set up right on the water and others are away set back in the trees a bit. Probably 5-6 total sites. Fire pits are constructed of stone. No water other than from the lake. Its real bare bones but if your into backpacking in, its pretty cool! Remember to pack out all pack in. Cheers! Ps. During mid summer be ready for skeeters...

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities are available at Cast Lake Campground?

Cast Lake Campground offers primitive, backcountry amenities typical of secluded hike-in sites. The campground features approximately 5-6 basic campsites, with some positioned right on the water's edge and others set back among the trees. Don't expect developed facilities - there is no running water, electricity, or trash service. Visitors should come prepared with water filtration systems, pack out all trash, and bring appropriate camping supplies for a self-sufficient wilderness experience.

Where is Cast Lake Campground located in Oregon?

Cast Lake Campground is a secluded destination accessible via hiking trails. You can reach it by taking the Cast Lake loop trail, which has starting points from either Lolo Pass or from Fire Road #27 off Highway 26. This remote campground is nestled in the Mt. Hood area of Oregon. Due to its backcountry nature, prepare for a hike-in camping experience rather than drive-up access.

When is the best time to visit Cast Lake Campground?

The best time to visit Cast Lake Campground is during summer and early fall, typically July through September, when high-elevation Oregon trails are most accessible and free of snow. These months offer the most pleasant temperatures and trail conditions for the hike in. Late summer generally provides the most stable weather patterns. Given its remote location and higher elevation, spring access may be limited by snowpack and early fall visits risk encountering early season storms. Always check current trail conditions before planning your trip.

What activities can you do at Cast Lake in Oregon?

Cast Lake offers excellent opportunities for hiking, as it's accessible via the Cast Lake loop trail system. The secluded lake provides peaceful fishing opportunities in a pristine setting. Wildlife observation, photography, and stargazing are exceptional due to the remote location. Swimming and wading are possible during warmer months, and the surrounding forest trails offer chances for exploration. The beautiful, secluded setting makes it ideal for those seeking quiet contemplation and immersion in nature.
