Free and hike-in only, Cast Lake sits within Mt. Hood National Forest and requires trail access via the Cast Lake loop, reached from either Lolo Pass or fire road #27 off Highway 26. No developed water source exists on site. The roughly five to six sites include stone fire pits, with some positioned directly at the water's edge and others set back among the conifers. Mosquitoes are common in midsummer. Pets are welcome, and campers should plan to pack out everything they bring in. Those looking for pet-friendly campgrounds near Mt. Hood National Forest will find other options in the surrounding area if a more developed setup is needed. Cast Lake works best for backpackers comfortable with bare-bones conditions.
