Great summer recreation!

This trip was more of a test trip for our dog so we only stayed one night in the off season. Great campground for families and groups, clean facilities, beautiful views of the lake. No hiking really which is what we love to do but had fun exploring anyway. The Creek area where we stayed is loaded with trees the rest of the park is very open.

Older but we'll maintained

Not as updated as other State Parks in the area but we'll maintained and friendly staff. Wide variety of camping spots from near the lake with wide open space to one with enough trees that my friend and I could both set up our hammocks. Has a disc golf course with tire baskets and they rent discs at the camp office. Mixture of out toilets and flush toilets on site. Nice site but a little close to a main road so we could hear road noise all night.

Beautiful park, very windy

This is a beautiful campground, with many campsites right off of The killer Lake.

Pros: Easy access to each camp site. Disc Golf* Water and Electric available regardless of whether your camp has any Beautiful views Amazing if you like to fish or want to go out on the boat, along with a boat ramp.

Cons: You can hear cars driving from the highway all night The wind. All of the wind, which makes playing disc golf extraordinarily difficult. Lack of shade.

All in all, I would recommend a visit here and will probably come back, but have filled this in my backup parks to visit.

Meh

There are a lot of RV and tent sites with plenty of asphalt roads throughout the park to walk on. We didn’t see any showers and the park has pit toilets. There’s a beautiful playground for the kids. This place is close to home for me and it was so much better when I was a kid. They definitely should’ve put showers and toilets back in when they rebuilt. We ate good food and my gentle giant loved the water and our walks. I seriously doubt I’ll ever go back.

Popular, older Lake Tenkiller campground

We were at Cherokee Landing for a quick two nights.  The Park hosts were absolutely the best.  They took us right to our site, making it quick and easy to begin setup.

We were at campsite 47.  It's camp pad was very level, but on the shorter side.  With my 22' trailer and pickup we just fit.  I noticed longer pads in another area.  The site indicated electrical and water, although the water was across the path to enter into the area.  It did require a full 50' hose to reach.  I believe this site was unique in regards to water hookup, but it also offered a beautiful view off a cliff of Lake Tenkiller.  Note this campsite is near the highway.  The noise however did not bother us over night.  Several of our neighbors had great luck fishing on our end of the campground.

The dump station was set up so that upon leaving, you have to U-turn or slip through another camp area in order for the facilities to be on the driver's side.  With my shorter rig I made the U turn with no problem.

Tahlequah is a quick 15mns from the campground with a WalMart, and plenty of eateries.

Camping in the Fall

Nice campground, clean and at this time of the year and/or due to COVID, no one camping but us! Campsites are close together. Our visit was a day trip to scout out sites for future visits, and we parked in site 52 of the Chickasaw loop. A few day users came mid afternoon, and several boats were out trolling and fishing. Reservations made online. The reservation website said 5:00 p.m. check in, but we got in around 10:00 a.m. Campground closes December 8 and reopens March 31.

Nice Lake Views

This is a nice state park. Good access to Lake Tenkiller and most of the sites here have some sort of Lake view. A little highway noise can be heard from the Chickasaw loop, but it is not too bad. Would definitely stay here again. Bathouse was acceptably clean.

Lake side, Road side camping

This was an interesting place to camp. Its right on the side of the road, next to Grand Lake. Being on the lake, it made sense that most of the campers were there to play on the water. The campground is really three campgrounds. Each one is a little bit down the road from the next. I think the best picks were either the one that overlooks the dam ( Pensacola Dam) or the one on the other side that is more wooded and had less asphalt. Both of these options had a bath house, but the one with more trees didn’t seem to have been taken care of as much as the bathhouse by the dam. There is a marina (not sure if it was public or private, didn’t walk down that way to check it out as I was traveling without a boat) behind the dam campground. Beyond the asphalt, another downside of the dam campground was that it had the boat ramp right next to the campground as well as the road and the dam highway, so it was loud during the day, and while traffic eased up after dark, if you end up with a site close to the road you also get headlights right in your tent. If you have the time and get there at the right time, apparently you can take a tour of the dam which is very interesting to look at from the campground. Things were really quiet in late October, but I suspect these sites are booked solid in the summer months. I think they take reservations.

Lovely sites on the lake

Nice little park on a peninsula by town and the highway. This is more of a place to stay for a night than to enjoy a whole weekend, unless you are planning to fish all weekend.

Yay: clean and easy to get to.

Nay: not very private sites. The park itself isn’t too special but there’s nothing wrong with it.

Surprise: A few miles up the road are a museum and cultural center about the Cherokee center, definitely worth the trip.

Disney / Little Blue State Park

As another reviewer mentioned, this is a popular area for rock crawling and 4-wheeling. We were not prepared for that when we visited. If you're into high-octane, loud exhaust, and big tires - have at it. For us, we were looking to enjoy some quiet time by the water.

The park itself is very beautiful and I want to note how exceptionally kind our Ranger was. He visited with us for a while, brought our dogs treats, and was an excellent host.

Although the park was really very pretty and the water was clear, we will likely not be visiting again because of the 4-wheelers - just not our thing.

Great for groups, but not peace and quiet

This place is usually busy and loud with 4-wheelers and rock-crawlers... the tent camping area only had porta-pottys and they were full when we were there. You can drive to the RV area for bathrooms and showers. Camping areas are open (not designated), making it convenient for groups to get together.

Cherokee Landing State Park

Park juts out into the river/lake giving you great views everywhere with really pretty cliffs. Came here on recommendation of birding. Primitive camp sites were good-sized, clean, showers nice and hot. Lots of recreational activities and other small parks nearby. Nice place to stop on the way to/from Ozarks, very family friendly.
