TravelerThis park was saved by a local who has leased it for the next 50 years! Oklahoma was going to close it down! Great RV and tent sites! Very family friendly , pool, camp store, playgrounds and numerous rappelling sites. Also bathhouses! Great hiking on the red Rock! Good karma like Sedona!
GuideEnjoying it, end April, cool weather. Sites spacious & trees nearby. Only a few RVs ‘n me. No tents. My neighbors from Oklahoma City saw it’s booked for weekend. Locals love it. Nice easy short hikes. Bathrooms a bit outdated but work. One has a super old hand drier (works!) from , my guess by looks, 50+ years!
GuideThis was my last stop on a 2 week road trip and it was a cool find close OKC. After spending a couple hours driving through TX and OK, this spot doesn’t even feel like Oklahoma. It gets very hot during the day but the canyon tent sites have a good amount of shade and are a lot cooler. There are also some great walking trails since it used to be a State Park.

We tent camped at Foss State Park in August 2020. We stayed at the Cottonwood campground site #6. All the tent sites were very spacious. There was a picnic table and grill and a water faucet nearby. The sites were nice and grassy and mowed. The bathroom was nice and clean with individual showers, each with their own door. So they were nice and private. Some of the old reviews mention needing quarters for the showers but they are now free. The playground was new and the kids had fun playing on it. The RV spots were a little crowded on the backside of the campground but pretty spread out closer to the entrance. We drove through the Sandy Beach campground and it seemed nice and secluded but the picnic tables were a little run down. The playground was really old too. But I think the bathroom was newer. Also, there was no sandy beach in this area. 🧐
The swim beach was nice and sandy. Much better than a lot of Oklahoma lakes. But like most lakes in Oklahoma, the water was super muddy.
There are two cabins for rent here. They looked pretty new as well. They have a marina and I believe you can rent boats but we never checked it out.
Overall, I definitely recommend Foss. It was a nice family friendly park to visit.
TravelerThis this little box canyon of red Rock has everything a camper could want RV flat parking spaces water electric and numerous tent camping sites. There are also nice showers and bathrooms. Best of all this campground was rescued by a local gentleman who for the next 50 years even though he doesn't plan on living that long because the state of Oklahoma was going to sell it! He and his family have camped here for years and you couldn't see it sold off!a great place to bring your family for fishing hiking and they even opened up a little camp store!
GuideI don’t know if it’s an Oklahoma thing but the wind was crazy making tent camping a little rough. I’m not used to what’re gnat like bug they have so plan accordingly they are attracted mostly to light but swarm both day and night. I wear a hat with a net so they don’t bother me. We were visited in our sleep by raccoons trying to get in our tent. The bathrooms have 2 shower stalls, one has a curtain and one has a low door so people can see in while you shower. If you need water bring a short hose the water options are wide open or dripping. The spaces are a good size and it is a nice clean place. Cell service is very limited going in and out of no service.
TravelerMy dog, Ava, and I joined a group of fellow teardrop campers in a surprisingly unique and fascinating campground in Oklahoma. This campground, formally known as Red Rock Canyon State Park, has now become simply Red Rock Canyon Campground. The state park was slated for closure when a local family from the nearby town of Hinton negotiated to lease this lovely place from the state in order to keep this local gem open for both day use and camping.
WOW, what a great service they have done for camper travelers. After checking in at the friendly office, we found ourselves driving down a somewhat steep and winding road into the canyon. Now I'm pulling a 2300 pound teardrop, but plenty of big rigs have also made it down with no problems. The place really is enchanting. The tent sites are tucked right into the canyon walls, and full hook ups, while not tucked in are right inside the canyon as well. With kids in mind, there are many playgrounds as well as repelling and trails for adult types, but you must bring your own climbing equipment.
The one downside for me was the pay showers. It was 75 cents for a six minute shower, and change machines were right there, but hey, I want free showers.
ScoutThis campground was a hidden gem in Hinton OK. The surrounding area is rolling hills and farm land, but once you enter the park, there is a warning sign that the road is steep and winding. (That was an understatement) As we traveled the main road into the park, we literally dropped into another world.
Surrounded on all sides by red sandstone bluffs, this campground has both primitive and RV camping. The first primitive site that you pass on the left is actually in a box canyon full of trees and does have an older but clean set of restrooms and pay showers. The other primitive camping area does not have facilities. With this camping area set within a box canyon, it was shaded through most of the day. (At this time site rates are $14 with a $2 discount for senior citizens.)
Full of wildlife, rabbits, deer, squirrels and armadillos abound. I am sure that there are more diverse animals in the area, but these were the ones we saw. The box canyon is set for climbing or repelling, no matter what your experience level. I am a little old lady in my 60's and had the opportunity to climb one of the smaller bluff walls (about 10' high) and was absolutely awed by the scenery once I topped the wall. Trails led off in all directions and the view from on top of the bluff was extraordinary. I traversed several trails on the top of the bluff and am still in awe at the view.
The park also has a small fishing lake and a paved hiking trail with handicap access. The RV sites, if you are into that kind of thing, appeared to all be pull-thrus. The park rangers patrol the park on a regular basis, are extremely friendly and very personable.
If you are just passing through Oklahoma on I 40, this is a definite must see. You are within 30 minutes of historic Ft. Reno, about an hour from Roman Nose State Park and about an hour west of OKC. If you look at the park on Travelok.com the pictures do not do it justice.

This was a great KOA. Paved roads were great for bike riding, beautiful lake along the back side of the grounds, nice large dog run, clean and plenty of machines in the laundry area, super cool playground with outdoor workout equipment too.
Sites are VERY close together in the larger rig area up front but we’re some nice wooded smaller sites toward the back. And pull through sites were super easy to get into. Plus the kids got a big kick out of the two Buffalo on the grounds!
TravelerAsked for largest pull through with easy access for a 44’ 5th wheel and got a spot in front of office with a electric pole on the corner. No way to pull in with out using 2 spots and several point turn. The trailer hung over both ends of spot without the truck attached. And yes it is a paved parking lot, place to spend night but should have stopped in a rest area on 40
RangerWe were in Site# 66. We had Full hook- up with a paved pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level. Our site was not shaded with limited trees. In eight years of RV-ing, we’ve never had such little space between us and our neighbors. We literally walk out our door into their sewer. (See pictures) My husband can touch both RVs with his arms outstretched.
The lot did not come with a concrete patio, picnic table, or a fire ring. Some lots had a picnic table. We did not request one since we’d be eating at our neighbor’s sewer.
It is an easy access to the campground from highway -(right off the highway).
There is free WiFi. They offer Cable TV and there are many local channels).
They do not sell wood here.
They do not provide garbage service at your site but there are many barrel drum trash cans that can be accessed.
You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.
They do have a Swimming pool (not heated & freezing). They have a fishing Lake on property (it is hidden behind some cabins so you could stay here & never know the lake is here). There are two Buffalo that are owned by the owners of the restaurant and trading post above the KOA (who also own the KOA).
There is a Playground and jumping pad for kids. They have a basic general store.
There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site but there is a restaurant at the top of the hill.
The streets are paved and good for riding bikes. There is not really anywhere to ride bikes outside of campground.
This is a RV park but also have many cabins for rent and tent areas.
They have 2 shower houses. The shower house has the typical stalls. These are kept very clean.
There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility. You’ll need to get change in the main office while they are open (no change machine). There are approximately 6 washers and 6 dryers. It is approximately $2 to wash and $2 to dry a load.
They have a fenced in dog park.
Bugs were an issue and bug spray was definitely needed.
There were no trails to hike in the campground.
We’ve noticed that the casinos nearby mainly offer slot machines only (very few have live tables (craps, roulette, blackjack,etc.).
ScoutThis was a one night stop while on the road. The KOA is very clean but it is very noisy. There is a wooded area at the back of the park that contains a private residence. Large dogs barked all night. A permanent tenant at the rear of the park also runs his dog before 8am. Not as bad but this dog barks also. Traffic is also louder than usual. Will not be back here!
GuidePool, pedal carts, jumping pillow, and a playground for the kids! Super friendly staff. If you need full hook ups, those are basically a parking lot. However, there’s some really nice shaded electric/water sites for RVs and tent sites. The bathrooms are super nice and clean. Pond has great crappie fishing too! It’s way less crowded than the state parks, and it’s nice place to spend a weekend away. They have little cabins that have beautiful, shaded outside areas (fire pits, porch swings, etc) and they’re cheap to rent. We’re not typically “KOA” type campers, but we really enjoy this place.
GuideThis campground is only about an hour and a half from our homes and we have been coming here off and on the last 40 years. The improvements that have been made to this facility over the year or I'm simply amazing. The staff was friendly courteous and helpful ways bath house and showers were clean up-to-date and conveniently located swimming pool and playground area organized and safely running.
LegendWe were looking for a campground on our trip out west, and we found this one. It drew our attention because of the long wall with a beautiful mural, because there was a billboard showing a bouncing balloon, and that it is a KOA. That was a few years ago, and I am finally getting around to reviewing it. When we first got to the campground, we went over to the Cherokee Trading Post, and we decided to get buffalo burgers(our first). Then we explored what the campground and adjacent area had to offer. We were fascinated by the long mural, the teepee, and the bison in the pen. While we were selecting our campsite, my older son asked if he could jump on the bouncing balloon out front, and the person at the desk said yes. The next thing I know, I heard a loud,"boom!” I guess the balloon had gotten old and deteriorated, and it was time for it to go. According to their website, the campground apparently has replaced it. Back at the campground, the site was grassy and shady. There are squirrels that are not so afraid of people. My older son even fed one. That may or may not be a problem for future campers. Overall, it’s not so bad for an overnight stay, but if I were staying longer, I would be more concerned about the traffic noise from the highway.
LegendThis KOA is directly off I-40 exit 108. It is a decent quick over night if you are passing through. If possible I recommend the spots in back. The full hook up spots up front are literally a parking lot. The spots are so close you are almost touching the RVs beside you. All facilities are clean. Staff is friendly. The pool is nice and there is a small lake for fishing. There is a tourist trap in front call The Cherokee Trading Post. There is all a Cherokee Restaurant. Good food. And there is also a nice convenience store.

TravelerWe stayed here over July 4th holiday to be closer to grand kids. This park is very nice if you make sure you are in the shaded areas. It was very busy and we had trouble finding a spot to fish with a 6 year old. The trails to the lake were pretty steep and intimidating. Some of the older kids had no trouble at all though. The park staff were great to visit with and very helpful. The bath house, pool and little store were all nice and a very good restaurant and gift shop next door.

GuideCampground is on a creek below beautiful red rock cliffs. Campsites are kinda close to each other, but certainly nice for a one night stay.
ScoutHad reservations for two nights. Due to unprecedented bad weather we wanted to see if it was possible to move to another later date. Left phone messages, emails, website messages for two days. Never got a call back. Reservation came and went without being able to use it. I would have completely accepted if we were told that the cancellation policy was that no refund was available and we could not reschedule, but to simply be ignored and have no response was frustrating and meant we had to wait multiple extra days before we could try to look for other options. Unless you are 100% certain you will use a reservation at this site, I would advise to go elsewhere as they will never call you back if you want to make any changes.

GuideWe stayed one night in an RV. The sites were not too close together, and we had friendly people on both sides. There were a lot of other families and my boys enjoyed playing with some other kids. The hiking trails were amazing and all in all just a beautiful setting for camping. The bathrooms were a little dirty and one toilet got clogged, but maintenance came right out to fix it. Would love to return.
