All of the sites and cabins at Dan Nicholas Park are in the woods. We do not have sewer hookups on sites. Pets are allowed on sites only, not in cabin areas. We have a two night minimum for reservations on the weekends. Payment in full must be made to hold reservations. We do not do refunds, but we will issue rain checks if notified 4 days prior to first reservation date. These will be good for one year.

This KOA is RIGHT off of the interstate. If you are in midtravel and need a place to overnight this is a nice KOA for that. The camping cabins are cozy, we stayed in a single which has 1 dbl bed and twin sized bunk bed. Staff was very friendly. I wouldn't consider this a camping destination.

ScoutIf you have low expectations of a RESORT, they won’t meet them. I was almost shocked that both pools would open on the Memorial Day weekend, almost. Adult, not allowed to have an adult pool I forgot, lower pool closed.
The hot tub is filled with concrete.
The E bathhouse was closed due to no Hot water.
The lake has so much grass in it (used to stock with Carp) it’s scary to paddle on.
The lake has no peers, docks, benches and just a fraction of the beach it used to have.
Thousand trails, not so much since they cut the trees down.
Oh, I forgot to mention, 80-ish camping spots where just added. That made for a very crowded…..everything.

The cabins were wonderful and I would highly recommend them BUT... there is no late check in, and we were not warned of that at all, so when we got in at 10pm no key was left for us to get into our cabin. We had to spend the night in my dad's RV on one of the foldouts- if he wasnt there; who knows where we would have stayed.
I do not really recommend the RV sites, I didnt like the way they had the waste lines set up, and i kept smelling raw sewage.
Once we were IN our cabin, I must say- it was one of the nicest cabins out there and the whole family hung out with is at our cabin site since it had more privacy, didnt have a sewage smell and then was right next to the lake/pond. We also rented a canoe and had fun canoeing around the pond/lake

Very close to my home. I hike in to the remote campsite on the lake. Lots of fishermen and trash since the scum can’t seem to pick up after themselves. The cabins here are also great. Clean and nice location. I would suggest the overlook cabin. I generally tent camp and the Point, not many know of this location as it’s a decent hike in. Great place.

We stayed here while visiting friends who lived in the Salisbury area and stayed in Cabin 1. The cabins are REALLY nice, I was very impressed. We walked the RV sites and spotted several that were also very nice as well. They each seemed to offer a decent bit of privacy, which is nice. The pool was well located but busy, which was okay all the families and kids were having a great time and that was so nice to see. I enjoyed sitting near the pond and just watching the ducks swim. The best part was getting fresh eggs from the check-in store each morning... And I mean... Fresh Eggs. Really cool place.

We stayed in the new glamping cabin #2. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice AC, lovely porch to relax on. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers. Those as well were pretty clean for a camp ground, I was pleasantly surprised. The path to the bathrooms light up at night so you can find your way very easy in the dark. Camp ground itself was very clean and I often saw the staff working on cleaning it and interacting with the campers. The designated swimming area was like a piece of heaven. Small not to overly packed, very clean beach. We plan on coming pack to do tent camping with our dog, fantastic family or romantic couple retreat.

It’s not a campground really. it has places for rv’s maybe a tent site. but it is basically by the interstate and just a place to stay. cabins are nice but again they are just beside the rv’s. no scenery at all. the employees are real nice also
ScoutCampground is part of Carowinds amusement park. Cabins and RV spaces are available. Prices are rather expensive during the season, but reasonable off-season. I've stayed here twice while visiting nearby Charlotte, and was pleased with the facility. RV spaces are a nice size with plenty of grass. Some airplane noise from planes using CLT, but wasn't bothersome. It's a short drive to restaurants and shopping, and very convenient if visiting Charlotte and surrounding cities. Will stay again.
LegendI camped here with a friend and our dogs. We were in campsite 14. It was very shaded and surrounded by woods. The tent pad was super spacious and made of gravel. There was also a picnic bench, fire pit, and a lantern pole. The campground also has beautiful little cabins. The bathouse was absolutely top notch and super clean. The park staff takes very good care of the area. Unfortunately there are some little beaches along the trails that have trash, mostly from fishing. The park offers some very nice hiking trails. This time I just did the Lakeshore trail and the dogs had a blast. We would camp here anytime again.

GuideThis was a fun trip. Only went for a night to get away for a bit but the sites were large and spread out. Trails all around that were both long and short. Ranger was friendly, helpful and good to talk to. Bathrooms were clean, water spigots to get drinking water from, sink waste water disposal sites too. Access to Lake Norman was pretty easy and maybe a 15 minute walk. Worth going to for sure!

Very family friendly camp ground. Sites are close together, but not too terrible. Sites include tent pad, fire ring with grate, table, lantern hook. Facilities we're kept nicely, host was very helpful and makes rounds in the evenings with firewood ($5 bundle). Hiked the trail head near the campground, to the river.. lovely hike NO RIVER ACCESS FOR FISHING though... Embankment is too steep, we learned this after the 2.5 mile hike with the kids... Went down the road to the lake the next day (they have boat rentals, though we didn't get one).
TravelerWe live just a few miles from Dan Nicholas, but love to “get away” there any chance we get. Plenty to do, super nice folks, and roomy, shady sites. The kids take their bikes, but even without them, they stay plenty busy. The lake offers fishing, paddle boating and feeding the ducks and it’s inly a short walk from any campsite. Hubby and I walk the trails, play putt-putt and catch up in our naps in our hammocks. The folks in the store are always pleasant and helpful. Can’t wait to go back!
ScoutThis was a last minute weekend get away. The website says first come first serve when you make your reservation for an RV site. When we arrived Friday afternoon, they told us that they have a set spot for us. We get to the site to discover it backs onto a construction area where they’re putting more sites. Wasn’t too bad at first, but at 7:30am Saturday morning they were out in full force with huge dump trucks and diggers. By 1:30pm they were kicking up so much dust and dirt that we couldn’t even sit outside. Will definitely not be coming back.

We made a mistake. My wife and I are moving to North Carolina, and we were looking for a place to stay for a month in the Asheboro area. I checked around and Deep River was the only local campground with long-term sites available, so I made the reservation. The owner, Scott, was very helpful throughout the reservation process and we thought we were going to have a good experience.
When we showed up, Scott met us at the office and he took us to the "most level site" he had available. I was a little concerned from the start because the sewer pipe was sitting at a 45 degree angle and it was half buried in the ground. I had to help dig out the pipe and when I looked inside I noticed the connection was broken and any drainage would have leached directly into the ground. Additionally, the sewer connection was more than 40 feet from the center of the site and I only carry 30 feet of line, so we had to back way up in order to hook-up. Unfortunately, that meant that our primary slide was within 3 feet of a giant pine tree so there was barely enough room to open it. Another problem with being so far back in the site was how unlevel the camper was. It took a while for me to get the trailer unhitched and by the time I had it nearly level, I had used all of my blocks and the jack was extended to the maximum height. Needless to say, I did not feel very comfortable with the arrangement and I was really starting to question whether or not to stay.
Then I started looking around at the site and there was trash everywhere with broken pieces of metal and half chewed dog bones strewn about. I looked at my wife and I could tell she was not happy. So I got on my phone, called another campground and made reservations. Scott was understanding, he tried to talk us into trying another site but by that time we had decided to move on. I will give Scott credit, he didn't charge us a cancellation fee, so that was good.
A quick note, the WiFi was limited to close to the office and we would have had to pay Spectrum for a monthly internet connection. Also, Verizon cell coverage was weak.
TravelerNice campground with a decent bathhouse. There is no AC in the bathhouses. Site 98 in the electric loop is for tent and pop up campers, but is not pop up camper friendly. The ground is very uneven. There are many trails to go on. We went on the Big Rocks Trail. There wasn’t much to see until we got to the end of it and went down the cliff. Then the views were amazing. It was not a loop trail, but you hike to the cliff then turn around and go back the way you came. They offer canoe and row boat rentals, they have a swimming pool that is open after Memorial Day. They also have a museum you can check out during the day. Overall, nice campground. We enjoyed our time there and were able to see several deer.
GuideWe had 4 families with children on 1 RV and 3 non-electric tent sites over Memorial Day weekend. Even though the park was at max capacity, it didn’t feel crowded or swarming. The facilities and activities at Morrow Mountain are awesome - a huge, clean pool; canoe rental from a well-maintained boathouse; hikes of various lengths; slightly aged but clean and cared for bath houses; and (our favorite) a gorgeous mountain top picnic shelter (A), which we rented due to a rainy forecast. Great place for family camping. Sites are nicely spaced, but by no means are they private or secluded. Staff were very friendly, but the no alcohol rule is a bummer. If you want to be alone in the woods, Morrow Mountain is not for you. Its also worth noting the climate is much more like south central NC (hot and super humId) and nothIng like the cool mountain air in Western NC. But if your looking for a fun, interactive family or group camping weekend, it’s the perfect spot!
GuideIt’s the quietest stay we’ve had yet, and we go camping nearly every weekend. I will say, having the ADA tent site makes a huge difference. The regular tent “loop” is just one big open field with few trees around it, so there’s absolutely no privacy. If you end up with someone who want to be rowdy, you are in for a long night.
The gates close at 5pm during the fall/winter. Slightly around that time, the retired police chief came around to introduce himself and give me his cell number. He is just up the street and was kind to offer this for extra safety.
No showers, which we didn’t know until after we got here, saw the one bathroom, and realized there was not a shower. There is an outdoor shower.
The water at our site is not working which is a bummer but we can use the water at the outside shower. It’s non-potable but we have a filter and boil it before using it.
It’s nice to have a little store (in the office) to grab bait, snacks, or other goodies.

TravelerPretty heavily wooded medium sized campground with good sized sites, some of which are beside a small lake. No sewer hookups, they do have a dump station with no extra fee to use. Heavily populated park about a quarter mile from campground within same area which has gem mining, a carousel, small makeshift train ride, small petting zoo, playgrounds, etc. The campground would have been nice except the park staff are horrible, by far the worst I have experienced yet. When we checked in the girl didnt have a clue as to what the campground had to offer, where to put your trash, etc. The ranger would ride throughout the campground all day and hassle people who didn't follow the rules that no-one knew because the check-in lady didn't have a clue. The worst part was we were forced to move sites the very last night because they had a "mix-up" and someone else had reserved that site for 1 night of all sites on a Sunday night when the entire campground was wide open. Go figure. Was treated rudely told if we couldn't move than we would have to leave, ruined the entire day. We finally moved sites to the one beside us and she calls me back again and says you can stay there, that they had "mixed it up" again! We had already moved The TT and everything. The customer service was horrible and the staff lack training and are unfriendly. Very disorganized. Will not be back.
