We stayed in the new glamping cabin #2. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice AC, lovely porch to relax on. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers. Those as well were pretty clean for a camp ground, I was pleasantly surprised. The path to the bathrooms light up at night so you can find your way very easy in the dark. Camp ground itself was very clean and I often saw the staff working on cleaning it and interacting with the campers. The designated swimming area was like a piece of heaven. Small not to overly packed, very clean beach. We plan on coming pack to do tent camping with our dog, fantastic family or romantic couple retreat.

I saw state park and was excited about the potential of another great site in North Carolina. I was not disappointed in that it offered amazing hiking. But signs clearly depicted it to be a day use only facility which was a little bit of a bummer.
I spent the afternoon hiking on a trail which was marked moderate but I’d honestly say was more strenuous. Lots of people come to do the Tower hike here!!
When I pulled out I saw even more signs just further reminding me of the day use …. for camping it’s a 1 (which is what matters on this site) however for the activities it is a 4. I found it to be a good compromise to give it a 3 overall because I did like the site, just wish it had organized camping because limited information was available about permits for potential back country camping like I had seen on here.

We made a mistake. My wife and I are moving to North Carolina, and we were looking for a place to stay for a month in the Asheboro area. I checked around and Deep River was the only local campground with long-term sites available, so I made the reservation. The owner, Scott, was very helpful throughout the reservation process and we thought we were going to have a good experience.
When we showed up, Scott met us at the office and he took us to the "most level site" he had available. I was a little concerned from the start because the sewer pipe was sitting at a 45 degree angle and it was half buried in the ground. I had to help dig out the pipe and when I looked inside I noticed the connection was broken and any drainage would have leached directly into the ground. Additionally, the sewer connection was more than 40 feet from the center of the site and I only carry 30 feet of line, so we had to back way up in order to hook-up. Unfortunately, that meant that our primary slide was within 3 feet of a giant pine tree so there was barely enough room to open it. Another problem with being so far back in the site was how unlevel the camper was. It took a while for me to get the trailer unhitched and by the time I had it nearly level, I had used all of my blocks and the jack was extended to the maximum height. Needless to say, I did not feel very comfortable with the arrangement and I was really starting to question whether or not to stay.
Then I started looking around at the site and there was trash everywhere with broken pieces of metal and half chewed dog bones strewn about. I looked at my wife and I could tell she was not happy. So I got on my phone, called another campground and made reservations. Scott was understanding, he tried to talk us into trying another site but by that time we had decided to move on. I will give Scott credit, he didn't charge us a cancellation fee, so that was good.
A quick note, the WiFi was limited to close to the office and we would have had to pay Spectrum for a monthly internet connection. Also, Verizon cell coverage was weak.

Very close to my home. I hike in to the remote campsite on the lake. Lots of fishermen and trash since the scum can’t seem to pick up after themselves. The cabins here are also great. Clean and nice location. I would suggest the overlook cabin. I generally tent camp and the Point, not many know of this location as it’s a decent hike in. Great place.
GuideIt’s the quietest stay we’ve had yet, and we go camping nearly every weekend. I will say, having the ADA tent site makes a huge difference. The regular tent “loop” is just one big open field with few trees around it, so there’s absolutely no privacy. If you end up with someone who want to be rowdy, you are in for a long night.
The gates close at 5pm during the fall/winter. Slightly around that time, the retired police chief came around to introduce himself and give me his cell number. He is just up the street and was kind to offer this for extra safety.
No showers, which we didn’t know until after we got here, saw the one bathroom, and realized there was not a shower. There is an outdoor shower.
The water at our site is not working which is a bummer but we can use the water at the outside shower. It’s non-potable but we have a filter and boil it before using it.
It’s nice to have a little store (in the office) to grab bait, snacks, or other goodies.

Obviously there was no consideration if we were left without a place to stay. Did they offer help finding another campground, NO. Did they offer to compensate us, NO.
ScoutWe’ve loved staying at Yates due to the flexibility and excellent communication of the owners. There aren’t really any extras here but if you’re just looking for reliable water/electrical/sewer and wifi near Charlotte this is a fantastic option.

This is by far the worst KOA that I have ever been to.
The sites are crammed together and not leveled well. Their attempt to level the sites caused huge bumps and I bottomed out trying to leave.
The staff is rude, and hard to find. There is only one bathroom facility, located at the entrance, so it is quite a walk to get there. The bathroom was filthy, the water pressure was abysmal in the showers and the”store” was poorly stocked and way overpriced.
Fortunately, I was only scheduled to stay one night.
Not a place I will ever go back to!👎
Legend1 night stay while traveling the east coast. Sites are on top of each other with no privacy and limited shade. Only bathroom is at the main entrance so if you’re not equipped with your own bathroom you’re doing a lot of walking. Campground is right next to the interstate so you definitely could hear road traffic all night long. Convenient stop for traveling but would not want to spend multiple days here.

But if ya just need to park it for a few days, catch up on laundry, grab a shower....its okay.

GuideThis was a good park. We stayed here a few time. I will say the staff is a hit or miss. They are polite but not friendly at times. The pool is pretty cool, but can get crowded. The best part it is extremely close to the state park and Lake Norman. You can drop in kayaks, fish, or just get out on a hike. It is an easy off and on highway. Down side is depending where your spot is of how loud it is. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The tent sites are well established and they are very organized.
RangerThis KOA is RIGHT off of the interstate. If you are in midtravel and need a place to overnight this is a nice KOA for that. The camping cabins are cozy, we stayed in a single which has 1 dbl bed and twin sized bunk bed. Staff was very friendly. I wouldn't consider this a camping destination.

My only issue was ??? !! The highway was close and the noise did make it hard to sleep But when I go to pick up our camper I will stop there again

TravelerBased on the previous reviews, this campground has come a long way. The road are freshly paved and the pull through sites are level. Some of the smaller sites appear to not be as well maintained but I’m sure this is on the list of the new owners. The bathrooms are clean and well lit, the pool is clean as is the entire campground. I have seen a complaint about highway noise. Well, when you stay at a campground with close, easy access to the Interstate, you can expect to hear it. We stayed for 4 nights and found it to be quiet and wholly acceptable for a wonderful stay.
GuideVery nice KOA Journey! Extremely well maintained and clean. We stayed here for 4 nights. You will hear the road 24/7 due to proximity of the interstate but its convenient to run chores or pull during your travel. The sites were fairly spacious for this type of place.
Starlink was great for connectivity in most sites. Some sites are shaded around the edges and would be tough for starlink.
ScoutStayed here overnight. Site was not even close to level. Recent blacktop not properly compressed. Had to use Anderson leveling buckets only on front of motorhome to level. The next morning they had sunken into the soft blacktop. I tried to call office, there was no answer so I left a message. Later that day I received 25 threatening and demeaning texts from the owner. Later, that day the owner arbitrarily charged my credit card $500.00. Avoid this campground at all costs.
ScoutI showed up after hours on a motorcycle looking for an overnight tent site. They didn't have tent sites available in the after hours check in. Luckily, John, who works maintenance, was near by. He opened up the office, checked me into a tent site and figured out how to give me a military discount even though that is not his job. John saved my night! The tent site was clean, level, grass and water and electric worked great. There was some noise from the interstate but expected in a tent. Restroom and shower facilities were clean and functional. My only staff interaction was with John and he was outstanding in customer service and going over the top to take care of getting me set up. Thank you!
