  Lake Norman State Park Campground

  Fantastic quiet get away

  We stayed in the new glamping cabin #2. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice AC, lovely porch to relax on. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers. Those as well were pretty clean for a camp ground, I was pleasantly surprised. The path to the bathrooms light up at night so you can find your way very easy in the dark. Camp ground itself was very clean and I often saw the staff working on cleaning it and interacting with the campers. The designated swimming area was like a piece of heaven. Small not to overly packed, very clean beach. We plan on coming pack to do tent camping with our dog, fantastic family or romantic couple retreat.

  Deep River Campground And RV Park

  Clean,affordable, and friendly staff

  Took a weekend trip to Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. Very well kept, level spots, pet friendly, big rig friendly with pull through and back-in sites available. Full hook-ups (50 & 30 amp). Fire pit and picnic tables at each site. About $40 a night, no deposit required. With weekly and monthly rates as well. 2 pools (currently closed due to covid), game room, store, and private pond. Located minutes away from multiple trail heads. We were on lot 20, which is a double space designed for a larger rig, very private with lots of shade.

  Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

  Well Done Campground

  We stayed at site 84, and stayed in a tent. There was a fire pit, hang hook for trash, and plenty of shade on the tent pad. We had plenty of space between each site as well. Bathrooms were fine with decent water pressure and hot water. I liked the idea of the campground host who was just a few spots from us. This allowed easy access to firewood for purchase. When we arrived at our site at 8:50pm, we were greeted by a super nice park ranger. We felt welcomed and safe.

  Oak Hollow City Campground

  We enjoyed our stay

  We tent camped on Aug 28. This was our first time setting up on a platform and it was very easy. Our site had a great view of the beautiful lake. There was a pool our kids could swim in until 7:00pm. They let us borrow a metal fire pit so we could make s’mores. The restrooms and showers were very clean.

  McDowell Nature Preserve

  Clean, lovely conveniently located

  I camped here with a women’s hiking group and was impressed.

  There are lovely trails, a large playground, nature center, the beautiful lake Wylie {no swimming, NC fishing license required}, geocaching, clean bathrooms and shower rooms, electric sites with large tent pads, good sized fire pit area, picnic table.. there’s even a loving gate with a code for a more secure camping experience..

  We could fit 3 tents in one pad AND had a hammocker camper too.

  If you are wanting some nature near the city, this is a good option - especially if you are checking out city things in Charlotte.

  You can hear traffic at night when camping here so bring ear plugs, headphones or a white noise fan if that bothers you.

  Pet friendly 🐾

  I saw both dogs and camping kitties

  There’s 56 camp sites: these include tent, RV hook ups and some primitive.

  There’s group camping at Copperhead Island.

  I highly recommend, especially for families with children, lots to do and a safe, secure feeling.

  Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort

  Decent Campground

  We stayed 3 nights in a 31' travel trailer at site 80. Staff at counter was very friendly and provided all the information needed. Site was level side to side and paved with asphalt only wide enough for the camper. The hookups were standard location and heights no issues. Our steps come out to a large level dirt pad, not grass. Lots of trees providing shade which is nice. It had started raining after setup and the dirt quickly became mud. The bathhouse is close and clean, all tile. I wish there were curtains separating shower from dress area though. The shuttle to Carowinds was frequent and convenient. All in all, the campground was nice, we would stay again.

  Oak Hollow City Campground

  Excellent Value for Tent Campers

  I stayed at tent site #10 for 3 nights.   This site along with sites 8 and 9 have electric so I was able to run an extension cord into my tent.  This site has gorgeous views of the lake and seems to share a grill with #11.  There are trees perfect for a hammock.   There is no fire ring but I brought my own raised fire pit.   I was told I’d probably need to drive to the bathrooms but there is a path through the woods into section A.  There is no potable water on tent sites and I had to walk to a vacant rv site to get water for washing dishes.    The wifi is hit or miss at this site but it’s there. My cell coverage was good so I mostly isdd my hot spot. 

  I want to emphasize that you so need to check in by 7:30 but after that you get a gate code to use coming in late or leaving early.

  Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

  Pretty Basic

  Plentiful campsites, we arrived on a Friday without a reservation and were able to get a spot. There is a swimming pool, but we didn't swim. Some hikes nearby, but far from the swimming spots in the Uwharrie National Forest. No bathrooms near the campsites, but there were spigots with potable water. The tent pads were even and well packed. All sites had a picnic bench and a fire pit with a grate.

  Self Sufficient Holler

  A floating castle among fireflies!

  What a magical experience floating in the trees surrounded by fire flies! Elizabeth and Mark were exceptional hosts. There is so much to do on property, and they are working on more! Their love for the land really shines through their work here. 

  The suspended tree tent feels like a bouncy tree house. We came during some spats of rain, and the rain fly kept us dry without any problems. The lower level serves as a great "garage" for all your gear. You climb up to the top level through the middle of the tent- we felt like kids again. So much fun! 

  Elizabeth has thought of EVERYTHING when it comes to her property! Not only do you have a fully equipped camp kitchen and fire pit, but there is also a rocket stove in the earth next to the pit. This is a wet area, but the rocket stove will give you a fire no matter what. The counter with the Colman stove served as a wonderful place to prep our meals. 

  There is also a full bathroom with a solar shower- super clean and well maintained! Elizabeth has put a ton of work into making trails that meander through the property, perfect for a stroll- or to go hang out in the community area by the stream. We were able to use fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden for our meal, and then do our dishes by the water pump! Elizabeth walked us through how to use the pump- easy as pie! 

  There are hidden surprises in every nook and cranny. Tiny fairy gardens and hammocks, and variegated plants! Elizabeth even has a rock painting kit at the campsite :)
