Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

      Beautiful waterfalls!

This is a really great state park which has a nice campground, beautiful scenery, interesting attractions nearby, and great hiking trails. The biggest attraction are the 12 waterfalls in the park. Some are easy, short walks, and others are moderate and longer. The Rim and Gorge Trails make a loop which makes for a really good workout with lots of stairs and elevation change. Personally, I think the views from the Gorge Trail are better. Or, you can park in the upper lot and walk down (approximately 1/3 mile) to see Lucifer Falls and walk back. Fall is a great time to visit and enhances the views.

All campsites are back-in and have fire pits and picnic tables. Some are in the open(#49-72)with a scattering of trees, while others are tucked in the woods with lots of shade. The open sites are much easier for big rigs to navigate and back into. There is no water or sewer at sites but water spigots are located throughout the campground and the dump station is easy to access on your way out and has a dedicated water fill station away from the dump site. Our site (#52) was open which we appreciated in because the fall weather was cool and we had a clear sky for Dish satelitte. The pad was gravel and level. The patio is grass and there is nice distance between you and your neighbors Some sites are dry camping and other have electric that varies from 30 or 50-amp and the price reflects which you choose. Our site was electric only (50-amp which worked well) and we were close enough to a shared water spigot so we could add water. There are signs that say you can only hookup to the spigots for five minutes and “Y” connectors are not allowed. Swimming is allowed in the pools and river but has certain daily hours and is only open from late-June to Labor Day. Your receipt and park pass allow you access to other NY state parks in the area. Definitely check out Buttermilk Falls State Park which is just a couple of miles away and has nice hiking trails and more beautiful waterfalls. We visited the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (which is free) and has interesting exhibits, short films, and hiking trails.

      Great Car Camping Stay

Spent a peaceful night car camping in site 151. Beautiful trees, nice shower houses, quiet neighbors. Just a beautiful and very affordable - $32 - stay. We’ll be back whenever we pass this way.

Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Camp Resort at Mexico

Run down, arrogant and disrespectful ownership, severe safety concerns

I would never return to this campground. We rented a golf cart, and while going downhill, the rear wheel came completely off because the lug nuts were not secured. My 1-year-old and 6-year-old were on the cart, and we were extremely fortunate that no one was injured. When I expressed how serious and upsetting this was and how close my children were to being injured the owner’s response was,“But were they?” When I explained that my children were thankfully not injured but were shaken up by the incident, he sarcastically questioned whether my 1-year-old could be traumatized. They did provide us with another golf cart afterward, but I consider that the bare minimum after being given an unsafe rental. After the apparent lack of proper inspection of the cart and the ill-mannered response to such a serious safety issue, I would never recommend this campground.

      Great Place to camp

This was a great camping trip! We had site 29, nice spot with the North Rim trail right behind our site. Trails are beautiful. Restroom and shower close. You do need to be careful, lots of oaks trees and falling acorns! Easily dings you car hood, watch where you park. Close to down town for a visit to the awesome farmers market in Ithaca.

      Watkins Glen State Park Campground

      Beautiful and Affordable

Second year we have camped here in June prior to the IMSA race at the racetrack. The sites are all spread out with a nice tree canopy. There are two loops (Mohawk and Seneca) with electric, and 5 more for tent camping or boon docking RV. There is a trail that connects directly with the state park with all the waterfalls. Water spigots onsite liberally spread out and the showers/ toilets pristine. With my senior America pass it cost me $103 for 3 days. Love this place

      Watkins Glen State Park Campground

Everything was great up until the neighbor started running the generator

Everything was great, RIGHT UP UNTIL some inconsiderate neighbor rolled in with their RV and let their generator roar from 7am to 10pm, ALL. DAY. If you’ve ever had to endure that mind-numbing drone, you know exactly how close it comes to making you lose your mind. We ended up cutting our trip short just to escape it. Absolutely miserable, selfish people who clearly don’t care who they ruin a trip for

    Guide to Auburn

The Finger Lakes region around Auburn, New York sits at approximately 700 feet above sea level, with most campgrounds situated along the shores of long, narrow glacial lakes. Summer temperatures typically range from 55-85°F with higher humidity levels near the water. Fall camping season brings cooler nights dropping into the 40s, requiring additional layers for comfort while enjoying the colorful foliage surrounding the lakes.

    What to do

Gorge hiking with waterfall views: The hiking trails at Watkins Glen State Park Campground feature 19 waterfalls cascading through narrow stone walls. "The gorge trail is a MUST. Definitely go check this campsite out!" notes Laura L., who stayed in a 30-foot motorhome despite the somewhat tight roads within the campground.

Lake swimming at dedicated beaches: Green Lakes State Park Campground offers a large swimming area with depths up to 12 feet. "The beach area is wide and shallow in most areas, in close proximity to the store and snack shop," explains Sheri S., who appreciated the ice cream available after swimming.

Family fishing opportunities: Lake Bluff RV Park provides a catch-and-release fishing pond perfect for beginners and young anglers. "They have a frog pond, catch and release fishing," mentions Sara H., who notes this campground is family-owned and frequently runs weekend events for kids.

    What campers like

Private wooded campsites: Taughannock Falls State Park Campground offers secluded sites in the upper camping area. "I stayed at site 42, which was mostly shady. The upper part of the campground is pretty private, while the lower end near the entrance/exit is more open," reports Barbara S., who found the bathrooms "fairly clean and well maintained."

Local welcome traditions: Sned Acres Campground greets arrivals with homemade bread. "We really enjoyed our stay. They were so helpful as we were first time campers. We loved the friendship bread when we arrived," writes Debbie C., who appreciated the support as a camping newcomer.

Proximity to wine trails: Cayuga Lake State Park Campground provides a central location for exploring regional wineries. "On site they have swimming, boat launch, and a playground. Lots of other places to hike in the area too, plus attractions like wine trails, breweries, quaint amusement parks," shares Harry H., highlighting the diverse activities available beyond the campground.

    What you should know

Bathroom conditions vary: Facilities at Watkins Glen State Park receive mixed reviews from campers. "Some of the shower houses are better than others," notes Lori F., who otherwise found the tent sites "nice and shaded" with "friendly staff" and "good patrols at night to keep people from being too noisy."

Site privacy considerations: Sampson State Park Campground offers more spacious sites than many area campgrounds. "Most sites are pretty spacious. Pets allowed in some loops," mentions Amanda K., who also warns that "Electric service boxes are shared in-between sites. This could pose an issue if your power cord is not long enough."

Weather planning essential: Spring camping at Cheerful Valley Campground requires flexibility. "The spring can be tricky with the rain, some sites can get messy," advises Amy T., who nevertheless enjoyed the creek running through the property for fishing and relaxation.
