BLM's Las Vegas Field Office manages Whitney Pockets, a free dispersed camping area accessed via Gold Butte Road, a rough mining road east of Mesquite with significant potholes and hard gravel surfaces that require high clearance and good tires. No water, power, or cell service is available in most areas. The site draws ATV and side-by-side riders, equestrian users, and hikers, and includes several petroglyph sites nearby. RVs up to 30 feet can drive in, though road conditions are a real consideration. Nearby, BLM Whitney Pockets - Falling Man Camp offers another option along the same corridor. This spot works best for self-sufficient campers comfortable with remote, off-grid conditions and rough access roads.
