Hour from Vegas & Lake Mead on Flatland

Heading back from Zion late at night on a Friday & it’s a beautiful view to wake up to. You will hear road noise at night & see the city lights in a distance, but the night sky is still enjoyable. Pretty consistently populated, but other campers are respectful of distances. There’s some edge of the cliff parking available as well. All cars, rigs & campers can find a spot & make the drive in safely. The drive out in the AM is beautiful as well!

Follow the map and drive slow if it’s dark you may miss it. Drive off the road and pick a spot it’s super flat. Stars here are beautiful and the sunrise over the mountains is spectacular.

Great cliff spot with fantastic views.

Outside Valley of Fires State Park. Across from the crowded other side of the street. There are some Fires pits if you drive up toward east part of the ridge. Overlooks the Valley and there are orv trails. We saw side by sides down there but couldn't really hear them.

No Frills Dispersed Boondocking

Stumbled upon this site after striking out at Valley of Fire State Park, alongside Rt 169 between Lake Mead & Overton NV. There must’ve been at least a dozen RVs, trailers and trucks parked on a rocky Mesa. Several look like they had set up base camps for longer stays. No facilities whatsoever but town of Overton NV is 20 minutes away and has everything you might need. Might be noisy alongside the highway but there was not much traffic the night we stayed. Free.

No trash no loud noises no parties or crack heads. Great little canyon to walk and explore or ride through brought my Chrysler 200 along with my travel trailer and pick up all three seemed to travel here very well and the rocks were not too bad on my tires

Great place to desert boondock

I really liked this place. But be warned. It is nicknamed hurricane ridge. (Because of that, my Wife liked it less than I did.)

Great TV signal and cellular! No cellular amplifier required.)

Great place when visiting the Valley of Fire

Dispersed camping with a view

Very spread out while we were here. Firepits around. Several roads to choose from. Gravel /rocky area. Pretty easy to get level. Easy in and out. No shade, just keep that in mind when considering this place, especially after April.

Beautiful Views

Even though there are plenty of people camping here, it wasn’t too crowded and the views were great.

We stayed here while visiting the Valley of Fire State Park.

I would say that the wind can be something here. Take a look at prevailing winds if you have slide toppers and park accordingly.

We have Verizon and had good service here. Not too far from town. We extended our boondocking by using our tote when we went to the state park and dumped in their RV dump. They have water too.

Solar was greatly here. I would stay away in warmer seasons though.

Excellent

Great place to camp. It does get windy. Great place to stay while visiting Valley of Fire. No amenities. The town of Overton has everything you need. We dumped and got fresh water at Eco bay. Plenty of room to camp. Rocky surface that is easily accessible with 2 wheel drive.

Breathtaking Boondocking

The entrance point from Route 169 is at grid coordinates 36.4817952, -114.4542310.

Easy to find with coordinates, pretty good cell service.

Super windy, especially if you park by the ledge. Very rocky ground, rocks varying in size up to football size. Careful!

Good place to stop for the night

There’s many areas on both sides of the road in this area that are good to car/camper camp for a night. Relatively flat and gravel and not too far out of a small town with gas stations and grocery store. Pretty sunset and star views. We saw small foxes here rummaging around trash someone left in the fire pit PLEASE pack trash out.

Convenient, comfortable and safe

We happened upon this spot while visiting Valley of Fire. Our original plans were to find a spot in the park, but both campgrounds were totally booked. I spoke to the ranger and found out that checkout in the park was 2 pm. You pretty much have to catch someone leaving to get a spot in the park. We were relieved to find so many other options nearby. Located approx 7 minutes outside of the park entrance, this spot is super convenient. This is a boondocking campground, so there are no amenities. The ground is level, clean and surrounded by canyons, excellent for young explorers. We came here in mid February and there were quite a few campers/RVers. I imagine it fills up pretty good during peak season. I almost forgot to mention that this campground is FREE!

Free BOR boondocking camp

Official name is Snowbird Mesa per BOR maps. Wide open mesa flat, free boondocking, but no water, trash cans or toilets. Cell service on verizon and att was excellent, tmobile not so much. No signage posted with any rules or camping limits, but area rules note season is Oct 1 thru June 1. No camping in the summer season. Contrary to others saying this is BLM land, that does not appear to be accurate. Two apps that I use with ownership or management layers both show that this is not BLM or NPS...it is Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) and a recent visit by a BOR ranger dropped off copies of the rules for this area (see photos). Area looks like a long term nomad camping area. Area is harsh rocky and limited for other things to do like biking and hiking.
