Description
Open BLM high-desert terrain within the volcanic rock formations of the Toiyabe National Forest east of Tonopah, this dispersed area sits near McKinney Tanks at roughly 6,200 feet — a natural stopover between Death Valley and Great Basin National Park. The dirt access road is generally compact and manageable for 2WD vehicles, though a few washed-out sections near the approach favor higher clearance; the road stretches well into the hills, offering multiple flat, rock-sheltered spots out of sight from the highway. Wide territorial views, existing fire rings, and a track record of visitors packing out their trash make it one of the more pleasant low-effort wilderness pulls in the corridor.
