Best Cabin Camping near Livingston, MT

This is one of the best camping cabins for equestrians that I found so far in Montana. Getting from the main road into the cabin can be a bit tricky for vehicles over 30 feet. This cabin has plenty of room to sleep 6. There are Corrals for horses and pasture. And the trails into the forest service are endless in a couple different directions. There is also a vault toilet for day travelers. The cabin has electricity and running water a fire ring and it's also close to a creek. The only down holes are mosquitoes and you cannot overnight camp only rent the cabin so if you're planning a trip you need to plan and Reserve this cabin in advance as it goes really fast every year.

The Deer Creek Cabin is a FS rental cabin located inside the 2006 Derby Fire burn area. Most people who use it ATV or use horses in. We hiked in from Jim’s Gulch TH, follow the FS directions exactly, do not use google maps. Any car can make it in the road is maintained. This a very difficult 4mi hike on a trail with significant tree fall, not marked, at times difficult to find a trail at all and not traveled much. There are several hoodoos on the trail which you would not have seen if it was forested. Also a family of very large owls. This is bear country, act accordingly. We didn’t see another soul and that is rare... and great. Once you hit the creek, there are 5 crossings, about knee deep July 3. Cabin was clean and kept. Fire ring with wood, chop some for the next visitor. Mouse droppings in corners but no alive visitors at night. Don’t sweep unless you have a mask for hauntavirus warnings. A family owned this until ‘93, a well stocked hunting cabin. Filtering water required due to livestock who graze, creek is very close. Beautiful full moon rising.

Love this forest service cabin, one of my very favorites. Fun to Mountain bike there if you pack light. The ride up to the cabin is a decent climb up double track. The ride down from the cabin is fun single track. Beautiful 360 views from the cabin.

We try to go to this cabin every year. We start at the West bridger cabin or the trail head. There is a really good four wheeler trail from the trailhead to the cabin. if you go with horses you need to be aware that there are motorized vehicles and hikers and I have occasionally seen llamas. The countryside is beautiful; there are a few stream Crossings, so there's water for the horses along the way. it's about a two and a half hour ride from the trailhead to the cabin. The cabin is set in a little clearing next to the creek. there's a Corral for horses with the creek running through it. there's also an area outside the Corral that you can graze your horses around the cabin. There's not enough grass to sustain anything and the forest service requires weed, seed free feed. This is a beautiful Serene place to stay for those Backcountry enthusiasts

The Maxey Cabin, although sparse in its' appointments, is a magical destination that is accesible year round. With two sleeping cabins, a large sun deck, fire pit and outdoor swing, this forest service cabin offers the active ncabin camper a gateway to the many recreation opportunities available in the world famous Hyalite Canyon recreation area- Bozeman's backyard.

The main cabin offers a table and chairs, two double bunk beds, wood stove for heat and a small counter area for preparing your meals. Guests need to bring their own water supply and all cooking supplies including stove, pots and pans and utensils. The second cabin has two single bunk beds and a table.

Invite your friends because they will want to share in the quiet solitude of Maxey cabin and there is plenty of room. At approximately a 35 minute drive from Bozeman, the convenience of this retreat is unmatched.

Excellently maintained and kept clean throughout, visitors to Maxey cabin can survey the surrounding mountains from the large front deck. Once you've been, you'll wonder why you haven't been before and not want to tell your friends.

If you are planning a weekend excursion, be prepared to reserve your spot 6 months in advance as reservations typically are in high demand.

This is one of my favorite places to camp with horses. There is a 40 acre pasture fenced to turn horses in with a creek running through it. There is also a nice little Corral if you have any horse that doesn't get along with other animals or one that you can't catch very easily. There are several places to ride. It's a bit of a tight squeeze to get a big horse trailer in there I would not recommend anything much over 30 feet. If you go a few miles up the road you can go to the trailhead that allows you to go on up to Deer Creek cabin. We rent the two cabins often park at the lower cabin and ride our horses up to the Deer Creek cabin and stay . you cannot drive to the Deer Creek cabin itself only to the trailhead

Stayed one night late March. The road in wasn’t terrible, a little rutted past the gate up to the cabin, but easy enough to manage. It was quite cold when we arrived, and we started a fire pretty quickly. The cabin has an electric stove, small fridge and freezer, and a couple small lamps and even a toaster and coffee maker. The cabin is quite drafty and we struggled to keep it warm. We pinned a sheet up in the doorway to keep the heat contained in the sleeping area, and that helped considerably.

We upgraded from a tent site to a cabin because there was a storm coming through as we were driving. We enjoyed the cabin quite a bit, and we'll do it again. We love the campground, but the traffic noise and occasional trains were quite irritating

LOVED this cabin. It was very accessible, with an easy road. You can drive right up to the cabin. There are two wood stoves, one in the sleeping area with two bunks. It got VERY toasty in there with the fire going (but with two adults and two large dogs shoved all on one bed together, what can you expect?) there was plenty of wood, the fire pit was perfect, and the area beautiful. 10/10

This is a great spot located right below the ride in a little valley. The hike to get there isn’t to bad but the drive to the trail head can be a bit of a challenge. Nice size cabin with an out house and a nice size fire pit out front. Lots of room out side the cabin for tents and fire wood is provided. Get up early and hike up to the ridge and good chance you’ll see some mountain goats!

Great location off main road. Has refrigerator that works and power. Main trail off the cabin and has an outhouse.

Hidden treasure. A great cabin hidden in the Crazy Mountains, totally worth checking out. I never wanted to leave.
I did have to book her a month out so plan according.

This is s hike in only spot but totally worth it! The cabin is great and lots of room outside to set up tents. Has firewood and an out house. The lake it beautiful and lots of wild life!

Approximately halfway between Bozeman and the north entrance of Yellowstone. The creek is beautiful. The cabin is close to the road making it easily accessible but doesn’t feel very secluded, although there wasn’t much traffic when I was there mid-week in April.

Second time here and love it as much as before. Huge, open space, great views, hiking, and privacy. Stayed in our rv this time, but the cabin is spacious and well appointed. Too bad they doubled the rates. Maybe making a reservation will be easier?

The cabin was great. Beds were comfortable, had all dishware needed plus cleaning supplies. If you have horses bring long hose. The hydrant is located about 115 away, no water tanks. It is located at the start of a trail. You will have a small amount of traffic
