    Cabin Creek Campground

Small pleasant campground not far from Yellowstone

Cabin Creek Campground is a nice small pleasant 16 site campground sitting in a mature pine and Douglas Fir forest.  The site is 22 miles from West Yellowstone and the park.  Campground is right next to the highway which makes for some road noise, but it settles down at night.  Each site has a picnic table and metal fire ring.  Campground has a vault toilet and water, trash service and recycling is available.  Sites are nice and roomy with plenty of flat ground for your tent.  One site is Accessible. If you want to go hiking, the 6 mile Cabin Creek Trail begins at the campground.

This campground is in the Earthquake lake geologic area.  The area was forever changed by the 1959, 7.5 magnitude earthquake.  Earthquake Scarp Interpretive Area is located just adjacent to campground.  You can learn more about the earthquake by stopping at the interpretive sites along the highway or checking out Earthquake Lake Visitor Center which is 5 miles down the highway

Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA Holiday

    TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT, DON'T STAY!!

Reserved a cabin at KOA in West Yellowstone; it had been raining, the area in front of our cabin was a lake!!    Our fire pit and picnic table were completely underwater.   We went to office & they assured us they would send someone over to take a look.   They threw down some boards to walk on, but fire pit was still underwater & we would have to navigate those boards to go to the restroom in the middle of the night!

We went to the office again & asked if there was another cabin for us to move to; the manager said there was but it would be $100 upgrade!!   We asked if he would be negotiable as our cabin wasn't safe.   The manager kicked our family of 5 out, with the words.....good luck finding another place to stay in West Yellowstone this time of year!!    Luckily, we found, Hibernation Station in town - lovely place, fully furnished cabins with bathrooms.   Why anyone would stay at the crappy KOA cabins 7 miles out of town when you can stay at nicely furnish Hibernation Station cabins with bedding, private bathroom, fully equiped ktichen, walking distance to restaurants & wonderful management.    Shame on KOA for not ensuring better management.

Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch — John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Memorial Parkway

    Cutest little cabins

We booked a cute little cabin, even though we had a van and tents because is looked like a good experience. We had bunk beds, with a desk and chairs. Outside we had a picnic table with a fire ring. Clean sites and cabin, showers, and restroom. There are washing machines on site. I would camp her again and stay in another cabin.

Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA Holiday

    My Home away from Home

Several years (10) ago I booked this KOA to travel with friends and visit Yellowstone.  They all backed out, and it ended up being an incredible trip with my Mom.  So much so that we are having our 11th trip this year.  I am also bringing my husband separately for his first time.

This KOA is well kept, clean, spacious, plenty of fun things to do, the staff is courteous.  And I love the different options that you have for staying there.  Tents, RV's, and Cabins.  The general store is great if you forget anything.  And the BBQ is wonderful for breakfast or dinner!

The accommodations are perfect.  We have stayed in tents and cabins.  I love that each site has a picnic table, and fire pit.  If you choose a cabin, it consists of beds, a porch swing, and a space heater.  Unless you choose to upgrade (which we have done in the past as well).  Then you have a kitchenette and bathroom/shower.

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park and Resort

Just minutes from the West Yellowstone entrance

West Yellowstone Grizzly campground is located close to the West Yellowstone entrance. It is an Rv Park, lodging, and cabins. It is also in the town of West Yellowstone which is a darling little town with so much to do. The Rv sites are full hook ups and they have picnic benches on a leveled gravel site. There are no fires allowed here and it is pet friendly. . They have WiFi and cable. The sites are pretty close together, which I did not like. There is a grass area on each site which is wonderful for dogs. There are 4 laundry rooms and clean bathrooms and showers. We stayed for 2 days and would stay again.

    Yellowstone Cabins and RV Park

Fine stay, more geared toward the cabins

Nothing wrong with this stay, although I wouldn’t call this a “campground.” It’s a small and tight rental cabin property that has a few slots for RV hook up.

It’s tight but as long as your just looking for a place to drop or unhitch this one is fine.

There is some shade with trees and each spot has a picnic table. It’s basic but it will do!

They are definitely more focused on the cabin rentals here. They looked really nice too, newly built and rustic.

    Henrys Lake State Park Campground

Very nice campground on a lake

Nice campground right on a lake and close to the west entrance to Yellowstone Smallish state park (44 sites plus several cabins) right on Henry’s Lake. Located 16 miles from West Yellowstone, MT (and the west entrance to Yellowstone NP), it is a nice quiet place to camp but with easy access to the park. We camped here for three nights and our site (35) had a view of the water but in my opinion, Site 33 is the best as you have an unobstructed view of the lake. We reserved our site in March for July and are glad we did as the campground was full. Sites are either electric and water or electric with access to water. The bath/shower house in the Blue Dun Loop was new and immaculate (I dropped my soap in the shower and had no qualms about picking it up and using!) However, they are still working out the kinks and there was a sign warning that there may not be hot water; I had one hot shower and one cold one! I saw single kayaks near the dock which I assume were available for rentals although we did not inquire further. I highly recommend a day trip to Upper Mesa Falls (your camping tag will give you access with no additional fee) and/or Earthquake Lake. We did both in one day. Lots of families with kids and apart from the rude campers next to us who arrived at 1:00 am running their diesel engine for 45 minutes while they set up, it was very quiet after dark. I would give this campground 5 stars except for lack of privacy between sites and not a lot of shade and it was HOT in July.

    Henrys Lake State Park Campground

    Close to Yellowstone

We stayed a week here, beautiful views and quiet. Our site was close to level and paved, 50amp,no sewer, shared water. Had some storms and high winds. Trash pick up daily at your site. There is a boat ramp and docks. Bath house looked good we did not use the showers. There is no dump station here. The park is about 15 miles from West Yellowstone. We enjoyed our stay.

Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch — John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Memorial Parkway

    Perfect Location

Great spot on the outskirts of both Grand Teton and Yellowstone Parks. we stayed in a cabin which was very cozy and clean. A double bunk beds with a mattress, a desk and chairs and dresser. warm showers and bathrooms within walking distance. A hiking trail that follows snake river is not that far from ranch. Pricing at the grocery store and convenience store a bit high, $16 total for s’mores, so shop before. Activities available for youth and adults.

Guide to West Yellowstone

Cabin camping near West Yellowstone, Montana offers lodging options within easy reach of Yellowstone National Park's west entrance. Located at an elevation of approximately 6,600 feet, the area experiences cool summer nights with temperatures often dropping into the 40s, even in July and August. Most cabins in this region are positioned within a 15-mile radius of the park entrance, allowing for convenient daily access to Yellowstone's attractions.

What to do

Boat rentals on Hebgen Lake: Madison Arm Resort offers kayak rentals for water activities on Hebgen Lake. "The boys enjoyed the kayak rentals, it would have been nice if someone helped launch them and putting them away," notes one visitor who enjoyed time on the water.

ATV access near campsites: Flat Rock Campground provides proximity to ATV trails for those bringing off-road vehicles. "This is a busy campground. It is perfect for floating, fly fishing, and ATV riders. I even got some good mountain biking in," reports a camper who enjoyed the recreational diversity.

Wildlife viewing from cabins: Yellowstone Holiday Resort guests report wildlife sightings directly from their accommodations. "Visits from the resident bison on property," mentions one reviewer who appreciated watching wildlife while staying at the resort.

What campers like

Central location for exploring: Canyon Campground inside Yellowstone National Park offers cabins in a prime location. "This was well centrally located and had some great showers. 2 showers are given to you on a paper card each night you spend at the campsite," explains a visitor who used the campground as a base.

Cabin privacy levels: Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park and Resort provides more secluded cabin options. "It has a great store and bathrooms. It's got lots of trees and backs up into the forest," shares a guest who appreciated the natural setting.

Cabin quality and cleanliness: Many visitors specifically comment on cabin condition. "Very clean, great staff, we had a large enough site to put out the dog fence. Rental car drop off at registration," notes a Grizzly RV Park visitor describing their experience.

What you should know

Winter weather preparation: Even summer visitors should pack warm clothing for cabin stays. "Weather was cool, but the trees made it very comfortable," reports a Canyon Campground visitor who stayed during summer months.

Reservation timing: Henrys Lake State Park cabins book quickly during peak season. "We reserved our site in March for July and are glad we did as the campground was full," advises a camper who planned ahead for their cabin stay.

Road conditions: Some cabin locations require travel on unpaved roads. "So don't use GPS to navigate to it will take you on a brutal 6 mile unkept dirt road. There is a easy route in ask for directions," warns a Madison Arm Resort visitor regarding access issues.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Yellowstone Park Mountainside KOA provides amenities specifically for families with children. "It only has a playground, but the staff is really really good. We were in tent site number one which they said was unlevel, but it was fine," mentions a parent who visited with their five-year-old.

Cabin alternatives for families: Families sometimes prefer cabin accommodations over tent camping during unexpected weather. "We came across a few tent sites just around West Yellowstone, with rain in the forecast and a long tiring drive, we drove past KOA and made a quick u-turn. They had tent availability, free showers and laundry facilities that we desperately needed," explains a camper who opted for cabin accommodations.

Swimming options: Water activities provide family-friendly recreation. "The swimming area is clean, refreshing, and perfect for families," notes a visitor to Yellowstone Holiday Resort describing their lakeside experience.

Tips from RVers

Site size considerations: When booking cabins that accommodate RVs, verify the exact dimensions. "We fit our 33' pull behind easily. Close to the main road so you can hear traffic but it was tolerable!" reports a camper at Flat Rock Campground.

Hookup availability: Cabin sites with electrical connections vary between properties. "Spots are very close together, which I did not like. The sites were pretty close together and didn't provide any privacy," notes a KOA camper comparing site spacing to other accommodations.

Laundry facilities: For extended stays, on-site laundry provides convenience. "There are 4 laundry rooms and clean bathrooms and showers. We stayed for 2 days and would stay again," mentions a visitor to Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park who appreciated the practical amenities.
