Nice place, but just didn't care for how much the cops drove threw nonstop, we are camping to get away from people and doesn't make me feel at peace wondering why so many cops always drive thru.

    Quiet Park

Spent 5 nights. The campground filled up on the weekend but it was very quiet. There are a couple of small lakes, one of which has kayak rentals. Several hiking trails. I have stayed here before and never encountered any problems If you want a quiet relaxing campground, this may be for you.

Great relaxing campground with many activities

Beautiful secluded campsite - amenities were clean. Kayak rentals were available for Lake Buteo - kayakers were out on the lake, and the lake has a trail all around it. Nice trail. The other lake, Clearfork Lake, was great for fishing for us! We did have a problem with Raccoons, but with our site being on the very edge of the sites I think that may be inevitable.

    Awesome, Picturesque Camp Site

Small, secluded camp sites on picturesque lawn surrounding 3story red brick farmhouse near Higginsville, MO. Two tent sites. Two or three small RV sites and one parked RV trailer available as a nightly rental. Bathroom with shower available. Water and electric available. Friendly and helpful hosts reside in the big house. There are places to eat nearby. Fire pit with comfortable chairs in corner of yard. Very pleasant stay. Relaxing for the soul.

    Compact but very fun

Great little spot to go for a weekend get away. Primitive sites all the way up to family, ADA, and full service sites. Attendants are always friendly. And the place is very clean. That includes the bath and shower facilities that were recently updated. There are enough easy to mid level trails in the park to keep you busy for a day or two, along with a small lake that has rentable kayaks. $10 a person for 2 hours. You have to keep your food and trash locked down over night. Close to town so there are trash pandas everywhere.

    Cool place

This state park is a hidden gem in central Missouri. It has something to offer everyone in the family. There are several small lakes and plenty of hiking trails to keep everyone busy. The campground is one of the better ones in the state park system. They are spread out and are level. The bathhouse has been newly renovated. The people in the park are some of the friendliest we have come across.

    Camp Takimina

Beautiful quiet campground in Columbia MO!

We stayed at Camp Takimina on our first shakedown trip with our Popup camper.  It was amazing.  It was about 5-10 minutes from I-70, super easy to get to. The camp was quiet, private, and peaceful.  There are no hookups, but water was right next to us near the parking lot, and the picnic tables near the lodge were shaded most of the day.  Portapotties were clean and well stocked.  We brought our dog and two children and the had an absolutely fabulous time!  We hiked a lot in the woods, played in the creek, and had plenty of time and space to figure out our new to us popup camper.  There aren't actual spots for to park in, it is just a big gravel lot with a couple designated areas for campers if the lot is full (it wasn't full at all).  We reserved Arrow Hill also, which is a huge site right next to the parking lot, so we had a campfire ring to cook on.  Most of the firepits have benches that surround them, which was very handy not to have to move chairs around all the time.  The tent sites were huge- easily would fit multiple tents at each site, and we will absolutely be back to tent camp, and with the popup too!

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Shake-down weekend with family.

Our first camping weekend this year, only 1 mile from home. Testing our 24' Forrest River Salem Cruise Lite pull behind camper systems, support supplies and food supply inventory. It was a spectacular weekend with our of town and our of state family. Knob Noster State Park is a great park for the grandkids to ride their new bikes on the level smooth campground road in safety, and for the adults to catch up over some cold beverages. The campground host this year - 2018 is ran by a couple from Illinois, and although a stickler for all the established park and campground rules - parking on the grass - they did a great job patrolling and managing the campgrounds so everyone was safe and the parks integrity was preserved. The park honored our disability rating and gave us a discount - $22.00 for 3 days & 2 nights. If you require electrical hookups, it is getting to be more common to plan ahead and submit a reservation in state parks as more and more young people are catching on to the camping experience. We didn't reserve a spot and had to take one of the last 5 'non-electric back in sites as all the many electric sites were already reserved and filled up fast. But, we were ok, as we had onboard water, sewer and DC power for lights, radio, awning, and jacks, we just switched our refrigerator to LP. We had a wonderful time and cooked everything on a portable LP grill outdoors in the amazing weather. The park offered a brand new shower house this year. Water and sewage dump sites were always available and no waiting. Next to the campgrounds was a nice medium sized lake we took our 3 canoes on with all the kids and grandkids. The only downer was that the only trash dumpster the campgrounds had and centered in the campground was already full beyond capacity when we checked out on Sunday - we were forced to carry our trash back home to disposes of it properly.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Quiet, clean and family friendly

Knob Noster State Park is close to Whiteman AFB and towns nearby for amenities. The park is clean and quiet. Weekends often mean a nearly full campground so make sure to reserve ahead! Weekdays there are few campers. The park is well shaded and it includes primitive and electric sites with water pumps within easy access to all sites. There are two sets of campground bathrooms—one is near the front and is brand new (2018); the other bathrooms are half way to the back of the campground. A dump station is at the front of the campground with a pull through drive. Ice, small grocery items and items are all available for purchase from the camp host. You can also rent kayaks either hourly or by the half or full day. There are lots of great trails for hiking, weekend park programs at the campground amphitheater, a playground and basketball courts. There is no WiFi in this park yet but I hear it’s coming soon. This is a great little park!!

    Definitely would come back

Very nice campground. Electric hook ups only, no water, no sewers (and we are good with that) Lots of shade. Most spots seem level. The handicapped spots are paved!!! Very quiet. The only drawback is the bathhouse. Needs a good scrub and a working exhaust fan.

    Nice & Shady

Nice & Shady State Park; 30 amp only, no water or sewer at sites. Water readily available throughout the park, dump station near exit. Dumpsters are not near the the dump station. Cost: $21/night for electric site. All gravel, except handicapped sites which are nicely paved and level. Very quiet park, hiking & biking available, kayaking at park lake (very mossy), lots and lots of stupid raccoons at night.

quiet, walk-ins had no trouble finding site

We stopped late without reserving when our original plan fell through, but found a primitive site just fine. Nature programs were fun and informative, and the campground was relatively quiet.

    Nice State Park

This is one of my favorite state parks. Not only is it close to home, it is a very quiet, relaxing campground. There are several hiking trails, a small lake and they even rent kayaks. I have stayed here many times for anywhere from a weekend to a week. The last time I was there i was camping alone and the campground hosts always made sure I was ok. They even let me use one of their water hoses, mine wasn't long enough to reach the spigot, so I wouldn't have to drive out to buy another one. Yes I ran out of water. I guess i washed too many dishes that week! The restrooms and showers are well maintained. There are no full hookups, just electric. I will continue going back.

    Nice campground

The bathrooms are nice, fully functioning toilet, sink, and shower.  The sites have nice trees for shade and are nicely spaced for hammocking.  We went during the end of the usual camping season and had no problem getting a spot and didn't have anyone beside us.  It was nice to hear the aircrafts from the base and next time we will bring our kids so they can experience it too.  We will be returning since it was such a nice place with everything we needed.

    Nice little park

I staying for two weeks in the off season. So the park is very quiet with lots of trees for the camping feel. It picks ups on Friday and slows back down by Monday. It wasn’t until the Friday crowd showed up that I realized how tight the spaces are. While the spaces a bit tight had no issue navigating the paved roads in the park in 36’ motor home. The is a ranger station on the grounds which is nice as lots of staff present to ensure park works like it should. There is a nice play ground on site with a full size basketball court. Plenty of hiking trails and couple of little lakes for fishing of just a pick if by the water.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Cute, Small Quiet

We camped the last weekend in September picking a late reservation where kayaks were available for our first tent test run were our main goals, which the site met. Kayaking was wildly available, due to the small lake and difficult launch, we can see why, but still very enjoyable. Site was very sizable for our tent, as most are suitable for campers. Lots of even ground, with decent distance. Facilities could do with some updates, but there were a number of bathrooms on site, spaced so no site seemed far, including the vault toilet and a lot of people masking up while going into bathrooms as well, which was appreciated. Current host was super nice and helpful to first timers. The tiny market has a number of random items, including a collapsible fork which was the only thing we hadn't overpacked, and wasn't overpriced. Fire pits on our site were adjustable, making grilling food easier to control.
