Boat-in and drive-in access makes Big Bay a dual-purpose destination for campers arriving by water or road. This US Forest Service campground operates from mid-May through late September within Mark Twain National Forest, offering primitive camping with port-a-potty style restrooms but no showers or electricity. Most sites back directly up to the lake, providing immediate water access for swimming, fishing, and boat launching.

The wooded setting creates privacy between sites, though campers should note the absence of on-site staff or camp monitors. Cell service reaches the area, and campfires and alcohol are permitted. For those seeking full hookups, nearby Area 71 RV Park provides a different camping experience less than a mile south.

Primitive camping.

This is my favorite campground but it usually is closed. It's primitive camping with only port a potty style bathrooms. No showers are available. Its very wooded and private. Most sites back directly up to the lake. I have accessed camping by water the last few times I've camped there. There are no camp monitors and should you have a problem with someone else or get hurt your on your own in dealing with it or seeking help. No electricity.
