North Egge Lake Camp

Egge Lake is located along the Superior Hiking Trail in northern Minnesota and is relatively close to other camping options in the area. Sonju Lake campground is the nearest site, just a short hiking distance away along the same trail section. These backcountry campsites are popular with hikers doing the Sonju Lake to Baptism River section. Other developed campgrounds are located within 30-45 minutes by car, including sites near Finland and along Highway 61. For front-country camping with more amenities, you'll need to travel to nearby state parks or national forest campgrounds in the broader North Shore region.

While North Egge Lake Camp is a backcountry site along the Superior Hiking Trail that doesn't permit ATV use, the Finland area does offer some ATV-friendly camping options. Finland State Forest has designated OHV trails and some rustic camping areas that accommodate ATV users. Several private campgrounds in the region also cater to ATV enthusiasts with direct trail access. For specific ATV-accessible options, check with the Finland Visitor Center or the Lake County forestry department for current regulations and designated riding areas. Always verify rules before visiting as ATV policies can vary by season and location.

The Finland area is near several Minnesota state parks with camping facilities. Tettegouche State Park is approximately 20 minutes south and offers both cart-in and drive-in campsites with modern amenities. Temperance River State Park, slightly further down Highway 61, provides additional camping options with beautiful river and Lake Superior views. George H. Crosby Manitou State Park, located west of Finland, features more remote backpacking sites similar to the North Egge Lake experience. These state parks require reservations and have entrance fees. The Superior National Forest also maintains several campgrounds in the broader region that offer alternatives to state park camping.
