Great start to the waterfall tour of NE MN

The campground at Jay Cooke State Park is really nice. The sites are well maintained and private (for the most part. More on that later), and the shower and bathroom facilities are really top notch. Plus, lots of great hikes nearby and only 25min from Duluth.

Beautiful waterfalls and Great Backpacking

We stayed in one of the 3 backpacking sites. Our site was closest to the little manitou falls and had a few little access points to take in the view. The site was tucked away and private, but could pick up the occasional sound of cars/hikers on the other side of the falls/river

Beautiful land with so much to offer!

I was so impressed by the trails and the lake-it felt very well maintained and also quite private. I can’t wait to stay again!

A unique park with lots to do

We found a great walk-in site that was off the beaten path, with plenty of space to spread out. The swinging bridge is a great attraction, although very crowded. The hiking thins out as you venture further away from the bridge. Overall a great park with many updated amenities

Beautiful land!

The trails were so beautiful and it felt like there were options to explore everywhere. Firewood was about $7/bundle and restrooms were clean. I want to go back and try to fish next time! There’s individual docks for fishing!

  • beautiful private areas to sit by the water
  • the lake was down but crystal clear
  • my tent site was very level

A North Shore favorite

I have camped at Gooseberry many times. There are some nice sites near Lake Superior. All the facilities are kept up. There is a great visitor center and gift shop.

Miles of trails to explore. The waterfalls are fabulous, especially in spring when the snow melt makes them roar. One year…

Great hiking with a busy campground

You need to get reservations ahead of time! We stayed Sunday through Tuesday. Space and vegetation between sites. A short walk to Lake Superior to star watch or have morning coffee. CCC building bathhouse. Awesome hiking to falls. Worth planning ahead.

Great state park near Ely/BWCA

We have enjoyed staying here. Minnesota does a nice job with their state parks. The campsites are varied in types, sizes and layouts. Ours works great for our 26’ travel trailer and truck, and includes electrical. Main restroom has showers. Nice canoeing lake adjacent to the campground. The…

Lovely and quiet

The campsite is lovely and there are some relatively flat spots for a tent.

The site was easy to find, and parking was also easy.

It was very quiet, although a neighborhood dog did stop by to visit.

A short trail through the woods leads to beautiful views of the bog.

Probably the best over all on the north shore

Probably the best state park on the north shore. Lots of hiking trails. Very well maintained and close to the lake. natural lake effect air-conditioning . One complaint is these prime state parks sites are very hard to get. The new 120 day reservation system sucks. While all these camp grounds were…

Private

We spent 2 nights at the back of the campgrounds in the most secluded area. The view of the open woods was amazing! Spirit mountain has plenty to do at the grounds and is close to the city Duluth for other adventures.

Amnicon falls tent site

I think it was great overall. Campsite ground is really fine and dusty dirt and some gravel. Highway was really loud at night. Otherwise hiking was fun and water was low so we could walk in many parts of the river which was great for my kids and I. Be careful of flashlight use at night, campsites…

Small quiet campground on the St Louis River

Quiet campground on the st Louis River just south of duluth and close to Jay Cooke state park. Most sites were pretty open but nice spots right on the river. Water and electric at those sites. We stayed 2 nights. Only complaint was the hosts or owners kids running around and being kind of rude.…
