## Overview

Pfeiffer Lake Campground, located adjacent to it's namesake lake, is a small, peaceful and scenic facility in the Superior National Forest of Minnesota. The lake's healthy population of fish make it a favorite spot for anglers, and the swim beach, playground and picnic area provide fun for the whole family.   
  
Superior National Forest, located in northeastern Minnesota's arrowhead region, is comprised of 3 million acres. The forest spans 150 miles along the United States-Canada border. Visitors can find recreation opportunities year-round, including travel in the famous Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

## Recreation

Pfeiffer Lake has many activities that attract visitors, fishing being one of the most popular. Panfish, bass, perch and walleye can be caught from the fishing dock or offshore, accessible via the facility's boat ramp.   
  
Canoeing and kayaking are also a favorite pastime. Boating is controlled due to the lake's loon population.   
  
The picnic area is next to a grassy swimming beach and 3-mile interpretive hiking trail.

## Facilities

The campground has a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served campsites, some of which can accommodate RVs up to 45 ft. long. The campground provides fire rings, tables, drinking water, vault toilets and a centrally located playground that offers children a great place to run off the day's energy.   
  
A campground host is on site to answer any questions.

## Natural Features

The campground sits in a forest of mixed hardwoods and pine. Some balsam fir trees have been thinned due to pests, and new pine and cedar have been planted in their place. Parts of the campground may be open and sunny as a result.   
  
The lake is 57 acres and has an irregular shoreline great for exploring by canoe or kayak. The lake area is also a nesting place for loons and a habitat for other birds and wildlife.

Numerous outdoor recreation opportunities lie within Superior National Forest's 77 lake accesses, 13 fishing piers, 10 swimming beaches and 22 picnic areas. The forest is also home to three scenic byways.

Horse CampLocated in George Washington State Forest, Stony Brook Horse Campground. Not located in the park.
Although the horse campground is not located in McCarthy Beach State Park, they are managed by the park. The Stony Brook Horse Campground is located 9 miles from the park office. Trails connect the park to the horse camp.

Group Camp 1 Site - Accommodate up to 40 people
Site located on wooded bluff overlooking Big Sturgeon Lake, nestled between the picnic area and boat landing. Spigot for water and vault toilets available. May accommodate a few small camping trailers, but is primarily a tenting area.

Sturgeon Lake Group Campsite - McCarthy Beach State Park

Let us be your base-camp when you come to enjoy the Gilbert or any of our local attractions. We are family-owned since 2004 and provide a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of open space so you can roam about. We offer the best camping value in Gilbert!

  

There are 22 drive-through, full-hookup sites for large campers or RV's with lots that are 75 feet long. We also have 17 individual back-in sites that are between 40-70 feet. These are all great spots to set up camp while you explore the Mesabi Iron Range. Each site includes a fire pit and picnic table, plus 20, 30 or 50 amp electric. Many of our back-in sites have water and sewer.​  

  

We have four exclusive tent sites, two group tent sites(up to four tents per group site) and eight additional tent/small camper sites bordering wooded areas. Some have electric and others are rustic. All tent sites have nearby water for cooking. Restrooms or porta-potties are just a short walk. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic tables.

Lake Vermilion-Soudan Mine State Park

The area has some residential housing but the campsite is isolated and very quiet. There is a fern-filled clearing for the campsite which is surrounded by trees. Turbera Vista is in  North East section of Sax-Zim Bog and about 20 minutes from the Visitor's Center. Further down E. Stone Lake Rd. is the Blue Dasher Bog trail. The lake, left fork of the road, has a lovely picnic area with vault toilets, fire rings, picnic tables and boat ramp.
