Lake Byllesby Regional Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Lake Byllesby Regional Park sits within Dakota County's Lake Byllesby Park, a county-managed property outside Cannon Falls that draws families and RV travelers to the shores of its namesake reservoir. The campground runs from late April through mid-October, giving campers a broad seasonal window that includes the busy Fourth of July stretch, when fireworks are visible from multiple directions across the water.

Sites close to the lake are the most sought-after, and for good reason: every site carries a view of the water, and the beach is within walking distance. Those waterfront spots are long but narrow, with little separation between neighbors. Campers who want more elbow room should look at sites set further back from the shore, where the footprint opens up considerably. The tradeoff is proximity to the water. Reservations fill fast, particularly on holiday weekends, so booking well in advance is not optional.

Cleanliness comes up consistently across reviews. "Very clean and well kept campground," notes Tonya B., and that sentiment is echoed across multiple visits spanning several years. Full hookups, including water, electric, and sewer, are available for RVs up to 50 feet. The park also has a dump station, showers, and WiFi. A small store near the office sells ice cream, which reviewers with kids mention more than once. Shore fishing and a boat launch give anglers direct access to the lake, though algae growth can become noticeable as summer progresses into August.

A paved trail loops through the property and works well for walking dogs or biking. Cell service is reported as good. One reviewer flagged pit toilets and the absence of water at some sites as the campground's clearest weaknesses, so campers should confirm their site's hookup status when booking.

Cannon Falls is a short drive east, and those planning longer trips in the region can explore places to camp near Lake Byllesby Park or consider nearby options like Cannon Falls Campground. Lake Byllesby rewards repeat visits, and many campers make it an annual stop.

Very nice campground

This is a good campground. Very well kept. Fishing from shore and there is a boat launch. Nice playground for kids. Sites are fairly close. Many have no privacy from others, but some do. No water at the sites and pit toilets are the biggest weaknesses. Nice paths for walking and biking.

Great park

Lakeside sites are close together, with W/E hookups, but they’re right in the lake with a wonderful view. The facilities are very clean and well-kept. Cannon Falls is a nice town to explore, and it’s close to home and work. Cell service was good also.

Nice Campground

We really liked this campground. The paved trail around the area is really nice for walking the pups. Very clean and well kept campground.

The campground gets booked up fast, so book early!

The sites on and close to the water are long, but not very wide. The sites further back have alot more room at each site.

Nice relaxing weekend watching boats

This is such a nice park. All spots have a lake view and the beach is within walking distance. We love it here. It’s not to easy to get spots on the holiday weekends, but somehow we managed it

Family Friendly

This is a great family campground! Camping spots are rather close, but we have two little ones so they made friends quick with other children. We didn’t get to swim at the lake because it was shut down due to a chemical spill at the time, but we did walk over and check it out. The views are great! We stayed in a RV spot next to the lake which had water and electric hookups. The playground is a short walk to the tent area, which was a big hit with our kids. Our girls didn’t want to leave! We stayed for two nights during the 4th of July. We were able to see fireworks all around. Our site was also right next to the office which was also the location for bathrooms and showers. The girls loved going inside for ice cream treats when the weather was a little too hot to handle. We had fun going on a short hike and finding wild blackberries to eat. We had a great time and hope to be back soon!

Campground close to the lake

It’s a nice park, sometimes hard to get into on weekends. The lake is right next to the campground with RV sites right on the water. The only thing disappointing is the lake becomes green with algae as the summer goes on.
