Free and first-come, first-served, Cannon River Wilderness Area has four official hike-in sites with steel fire rings plus two unofficial sites without. The walk from the parking area runs about ten minutes to the farthest site. Sites sit directly on the Cannon River and along a walking trail that sees regular foot traffic from dog walkers, so expect company. Drinking water and toilets are on-site. Campers planning a longer Minnesota trip can cross-reference campgrounds near Faribault or consider a stay at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park Campground for a more developed option. The season runs May through October; bring everything in and pack everything out.
