Within Superior National Forest, Eighteen Rustic Lake Campground operates as a boat-in facility accessible only by watercraft during the Memorial Day through Labor Day season. The US Forest Service manages this remote site, which requires campers to paddle or motor across the lake to reach the camping areas along the wooded shoreline.
The campground provides vault toilets and allows campfires at designated fire rings, though no potable water is available on-site. Campers consistently mention the lake's clarity and fishing potential, with multiple sites offering direct water access. Adam M. notes the "lake is clear and looks like very good fishing," though no boat launch exists at the campground itself. A 2.5-mile hiking trail circles the lake, providing an alternative activity for visitors who want to explore beyond their campsite.
Road conditions to the water access point can deteriorate after rain, according to several reviews. The remote location attracts campers seeking solitude, though the boat-in requirement limits site size and gear capacity. Sites accommodate smaller setups suitable for those who can transport their camping equipment by water. For those planning extended stays in the region, Divide Lake Campground & Backcountry Sites lies 4.7 miles southeast and offers additional options for exploring this section of the national forest.
Description
Eighteen Lake Rustic Campground provides three campsites and a picnic area under red pines on the shore of Eighteen Lake. A trail around the lake and a carry down boat access make this a wonderful spot to spend a weekend in the woods.
