Seasonal operations: Many cabins near South Branch operate on limited schedules. Twin Oaks RV Campground operates from April through November with seasonal closure during winter months, while others like Tippy Dam State Recreation Area remain open year-round. "All year" availability makes Tippy Dam popular for winter sportsmen.
Lake access considerations: Some waterfront sites have challenging water access. At Tippy Dam, "Campsites along the lake are high overlook campsites with narrow trails down to the water. Minimal swimming area but ours had a small sand bottom. A common area with stairs down to the water and a dock is available," explains James.
Noise levels vary: Campgrounds closer to roads may experience traffic noise. "Sites were very close together, located next to a busy road. Had to cross a busy road to get to the larger beach access," reports Kristina P. about Mitchell State Park Campground. Request sites further from main roads when making reservations.

Tips from RVers
Hookup availability: Peterson Creek Cabins and Campground offers full-service sites for RVs with cabins nearby. "Place is brand new, I was able to pull my 40 foot toy haul in at ease. You can hit the trails from this site. People are super friendly. Very nice bathhouse and heated pool," mentions Jacob. The campground features modern bathroom facilities with heated water.
Site layout considerations: Campground design affects RV parking ease. "They pack you in. It didn't feel like camping. Yes, there are sites with fire pits, but it felt like the designers said, 'let's see just how many people can we fit into this space,'" shares Allisha M. about Orchard Beach State Park Campground. Request corner sites or end locations for additional space when available.
Winter RV accommodations: Some cabin locations provide winter services for RVers. Pats RV Park maintains plowed access roads during winter months. "This is a great campground, we always start our camping season here. Hodenpyle Dam lake is a great, quiet area. It close enough to several places which makes it convenient to get in some sight seeing in Traverse City, Frankfort and Manistee," notes Steve F.
