Last spot for the weekend, pleasant suprise

Typical rustic camper, so camping close to others is not my typical cup of tea, but I messed up my rustic campsite reservation by week and managed to get the last open spot for the weekend in the main campground. First up - Park Staff at check-in. 6/5. Incredibly helpful. Let me do a drive by of the site to check if I would fit, and stalled someone on the phone who called about that last site while I checked it out. Campsites- be prepared to deal with sloping ground. Bathrooms - clean, Camp store - kind of sparse. Campfire Wood - the stuff they sell works for a quick fire but not long lasting. Buy some larger logs from in town.

Michigan’s Oldest State Park

The park is beginning to look its age. Stayed 4 nights while visiting the Traverse City area. Crowded with families making use of the last couple weeks before schools return. Rained well one night and our grass less site turned nasty. Good Verizon signal and has water available at several stations around each camping loop. Great location, however, to visit Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Great experience all around.

Just spent 5 nights at site 185 that borders along the north trail. Had an issue with noise one night but a ranger took care of it. Buildings were clean and staff was very nice.

Excellent state campground

The beach here is ideal for children, staying very shallow out to the bouy markers for the swimming area.

The sites are adequately sized although some can be difficult to maneuver into because of the trees.

The sandy soil seems to be keeping the mosquito population in check.

Bathrooms are clean and we'll maintained.

Camping

We have stayed here the past couple of years. We enjoy it a lot. It is close to many attractions or things to do. One negative is the swimmers itch but there are beaches/lakes that are nearby.

Okay campground

I personally think Green Lake Rustic is way better. But this campground is nice. Crowed and clean bathrooms. Beach is beautiful but has swimmers itch.
